I wondered about that! The numbers are images, after all, and how could Google read the content of an image to confirm you've entered the right figure? I assumed maybe any number would do, but I never tried it out. I'm going to try it now.
I can't read 'em half the time and just put anything in, always thinking I know it's wrong...but it always works. You are, once again, so right Mz Moon...
I think that Google is trying to get the house numbers read from Google Earth or something like that.
