Here We Go Again

So I get up a freakin' hour early so that I can go walk before the boys get here and of course it starts raining.
Yes, I could walk in the rain.
No. I am not going to do that.

Sigh.

Well, the weekend is over and it's time to start EAHAS (eating all healthy and shit) and BASAS (being all sober and shit) and EAS (exercising and shit) and so I've had my smoothie and I guess I'll go do some crunches and so forth.

But before I do that, let's talk about the Captchas. The verification words. They've gotten ridiculous. I look at those things and I am aware that yes, they are probably letters used in the alphabet but I can't tell you what they are. They make me feel like a stroke victim. You?

Also, I'd like to say thank-you to everyone who comes here and reads and who braves the stupid verification words to leave a comment. I really feel like it's a community. I'll write something and I'll think of who is going to like what I said and who is going to know exactly what I'm talking about and if I have questions about sea creatures, Syd will answer them.
It is a comfort to me. It is a joy.

So did you read about the Republican senate candidate (Todd Akin) who claims that women rarely get pregnant as the result of rape because the female body just sort of shuts down the pregnancy process if the rape is "legitimate"?
Didn't some other asshole politician make this same claim a while back?
You know, as I get older I find myself being more tolerant of asshole behavior in some cases but less in others. This would fall under the less category. He claims that several doctors have confirmed this to be true.
Doctors of what?
So if a woman gets raped and finds herself pregnant, it wasn't a "legitimate" rape?
Of course this is all about his stance on abortion which, because of the whole legitimate rape thing is unnecessary, even in cases of rape because if the women gets pregnant, she wasn't really raped.

I don't even have the words to say how angry this makes me. He should be educated, he should be brought to account for such woman-hating words, he should hide his head in shame and go away and never be heard from again. If he has a wife, she should divorce him, if he has daughters, they should never talk to him again. If he has a mother who is still alive, he should apologize to her. Because he is stupid and evil and he will never have a uterus and he will never get pregnant through any means and I wouldn't wish rape on anyone, even a man like him.

Okay! Well, it's Monday morning. Wish me luck with the two boys.

I believe I'm going to remove the verification word thing from my comments. If it gets out of hand, I'll put it back on. I don't want to do the thing where I have to approve comments before they're posted because that just isn't how I want this to go although it doesn't bother me at all when other bloggers employ it.

And in other first-world problems, I'm out of bananas.

Woe is me.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Ha! I thought it was only me that couldn't read the captchas. I just take a wild guess and sometimes I have to guess again.

  2. Blue Gal- I find myself trying three or four times. This morning I set a personal record with FIVE tries. This is ridiculous. And since removing my VW thingee (about half an hour ago) I've already gotten one spam comment but Google caught it.
What IS the deal with Viagra?

  3. They make me feel like a stroke victim. You? YES, Ms. Moon, they do.

I will miss them in a strange way though. Especially when I am trying to read and enter them on my smarty pants phone.

    Happy Monday!

  4. Out of bananas? Better than gone bananas, don't you think? And if Mr Moon comes back with a gator slung over his shoulder, I'd run away shrieking.

  5. Welcome home and enjoy the boys. I appreciate your outrage at the male ignorance. Chris Smith (R) NJ's House Bill 5939 is attempting to remove federal funding for abortions with the exception of "forcible rape" which makes me crazy. Are there other kinds? They are debating which types of violations meet their criteria for allowing a woman to end an unwanted pregnancy. You can bet they'll vote against any social programs to help feed or educate that unwanted child, those are staples in the Ryan Budget plan. Letting men debate defining rape is insult enough, but making birth control harder to afford which would prevent unwanted pregnancies while most insurance companies still pay for men's Viagra prescriptions is disgusting. We're ruled by dickheads, aren't we? There needs to be a new word for this patriarchal based rape of women's rights. I'm mad as hell, I just want to shake some people. I hope enough outraged women vote as many of these backwards thinking men out of office as possible.

Ok. Sorry. I needed to vent.

I've managed to get through the wv hoops, sometimes I have to ask for a new one or three, but they are pretty crazy. Hope you don't get spammed. Have a great day, and thanks for the new, very useful acronyms.

  6. Was typing a response and the power went out.

I was going to say, yes, sometimes the wvs make me weep as I try and type them. But my blog, I have it disabled and the spam goes straight to my trash bin in my email. Maybe because I have gmail? Dunno. Only problem is, so do normal comments, but I can find those in the blogger dashboard now, so it's fine.

Anyway, in the meantime, re the rape comment, I just found this post : http://projectunbreakable.tumblr.com/post/29800236664/a-letter-to-each-of-you

  7. I hate the word verification crap. And I am hating the way men want to dictate to women what they do with their bodies or pretend to understand anything about what is right for women. Stupid and ego driven.

  8. The Republican party needs to eradicate their American Taliban element. Let those fools wander in the political desert while the rest of us have a proper adult conversation.

  9. Did you know that those captchas are actually helping to digitize old books?

  10. religion at it's finest.

I hate the stupid captcha. if they want us to help digitize old books, why make them so impossible to make out? and really, what language are these words in because most of them can't even be pronounced and I never ever see a real word. so thanks for getting rid of it.

  11. The religious right has always wanted the freedom to be assholes and the legislation to thrust it on the rest of the community.
The first revolutionary to stand up to such fervently hateful religious beliefs was...

    Jesus.

  12. Yay I'm glad you took it off. It takes me about 2 or 3 times before I get them right because either my eyes are terrible or they are trying too hard to MAKE SURE you are who you are and the words look entirely blurry and slurry to me.

I know, I read that comment about the rape/pregnancy too. I think I had a stroke. I fucking want these jokers to just vanish. Just poof, gone. I would say I hate them, but that would make me a hater and I dont want to be that. But if I were... well, you know.

  13. I-D-I-O-T-S !!!
How a man thinks he has any idea what a rape means or does to a woman is beyond me. The arrogant, audacity of the stupid republican male animal makes me ill and afraid.
And I fear most of them CAN'T be educated. Their brains are just wired assbackwards!

Owwww, send some little boy pics today. Love to see those sweetie critters!

No word verification, it's kind of like getting to run around naked...feels so liberating :)

  14. Love this:" it's time to start EAHAS (eating all healthy and shit) and BASAS (being all sober and shit) and EAS (exercising and shit)." At least you do it and don't just talk about doing it! And this "... I'm out of bananas."

Word verification sucks - and yes sometimes I just give up.

Good luck with the boys, I can't wait for pictures.

And ditto what you said about Akin.

  15. I'm glad that you've addressed the captchas because they've gotten increasingly ridiculous, and sometimes I'll peck away three or four times to get my comment in. God.

And I loved your rant against that Republican guy. It almost sounded like it could be included in the Old Testament. Re-read it and tell me if you don't think so --

  16. That idiot made me livid. Asshole dipshit moron who belongs under a rock somewhere. And speaking as a scientist, who the hell actually believes that nonsense he was spewing??

Thought you might like the quotation below:

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.
-Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, Dec. 6, 1813.

  17. What an idiot to say that.

OK, Ms. Moon, I can understand the EAHS, but not the BASAS. Alcohol has no fat. Go for it.

  18. The other Republican idiot who said the same thing as Todd Akin? It was vp candidate Paul Ryan, except he used the word forcible, as if rape, by it's very definition is not forced. I guess if you get pregnant it wasn't forcible rape, in other words, not legitimate. My head is spinning with this one!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes and yes, all that you said. The mind reels.

  20. Those captchas wouldn't be nearly as bad if they were real words, instead of gobbledygook. I can usually figure them out at first go -- maybe from all my years of deciphering graffiti? But it's never a pleasant process.

That said, I turned mine off briefly and I began getting spam. So good luck with that.

That Akin guy is shocking. Every once in a while, when someone says something like that, I perceive in it a sign of the latest disinformation campaign sweeping the Far Right. I bet there's an organized message out there, backed by some snake-oil doctor(s), about women shutting down their reproductive systems if they're "legitimately" raped. Appalling.

  21. Aahh, I found it. Yes, the man is a sleazeball nutcase. Yikes. Hopefully he loses to Claire McCaskill...who has been oddly quiet about this whole ordeal. I guess if he's going to keep saying stupid stuff she can just sit back and win the election without doing a thing.
