Florida

When I was a little child and my mother moved us to Roseland, Florida because that's where her parents lived when my father was trying to kill us in Chattanooga, Tennessee, there was only one restaurant in the entire area. And when I say "area" I mean between Vero Beach and Melbourne Beach.
Listen: This was so long ago that there are no images of it on Google.
The Anchor Restaurant was run by some Syrians. How did they get to Sebastian? How did they buy that restaurant? I do not know.
I only know that when we went "out to eat" we ate at the Anchor Restaurant.
Here are the things I remember eating from their menu:

Cheeseburgers
Clam Chowder
Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.

There may well have been other things on the menu, but these are the things I remember.

I remember eating clam chowder and strawberry rhubarb pie. I remember the shell earrings in tiny plastic packages sold at the cash register. I remember my brother and I taking toothpicks and stabbing the fruits of the cactus blossoms growing outside of the restaurant, the thin, sickly red blood flowing from them.

This was Florida. A long time ago.

This is Florida, tonight.

  3. Madame King- Cut it up. Mix it with a little sugar, some strawberries, a few tablespoons of flour. Put it in a pie crust. Bake it.
    That is all you need.

  6. I've never eaten rhubarb and have a very good reason. When I was about six the old crotchety neighbor lady yelled at me, 'if you don't keep your dog from pissing on my rhubarb I'm gonna shoot him! Why do all the dogs piss on my rhubarb?' I figured if a dog would rather pee on rhubarb than eat it, it must not taste good.
