Damn Good News

We met with Dr. Eye-Candy, as one of the scheduling ladies in Thomasville sort of calls him and as always, he was just as cute as a damn bug. That man...

Anyway, all cuteness aside, he gave us good news. He sent Kathleen's cancer sample off for gene studies and it turns out, as he suspected, that she has a specific type of cancer which responds quite well to a once-a-day pill.

This means that for now- no more chemo.

He warned her that it is not going to be a cake-walk. The first two months may be difficult but then the body will adjust. He feels very confident that this is going to be helpful to her and that although the final prognosis has not changed, he seemed to be suggesting that with her good health in general, her spirit and the way she has responded to chemo, this might be something that offers her more than chemo could.
And no more long days of getting fluids, some of them benign, some of them toxic, dripped into her veins.

We are so happy. Judy and I held hands as Dr. Sweetness gave the news and then we both hugged Kathleen and Dr. Mighty-Fine-Lookin' beamed. And then HE hugged Kathleen.
He's so proud of himself.
We're proud of him too.

I'm sure Kathleen will write her version of this story and give it far better treatment (haha!) than I have, but this is my few words and I am so glad to be able to give them.

If she had stayed with her original doctor, she would most likely either be dead or certainly not able to go out, as we three did today, for lunch where we feasted and toasted and sat in the sunlight on a day where things seem sparklier and better all the way around, the buds coming out, the ground warming, our fingers itching to get into the dirt to make good things grow into life once again.

  11. I am glad too that she gets to feast her eyes on the Dr. Hunk and that she is alive. The first doc sucked. Go for the best when you have a bad one, like the little C. No messing around. Awesome for all concerned.
