I Get No Respect

Dang, y'all. I'm tired.
Wasn't I sick on Sunday? What happened with that? Oh yeah. I got better. Real fast. Yesterday was a full day, albeit a fairly slow moving day. Still, I got a lot done.
And today I've been going at it hard.
After my walk, Mr. Moon and I got together and drove down to Woodville, Florida (and no, you've never heard of it unless you live around here but it's a charming little community) and did some research concerning this business thing he's thinking about.
That man. That man, that man, that man.
What can I say?
I remember when he wanted to open his first business- a Michelin Tire store and repair shop. I was pregnant, in my last year of nursing school, had two kids already, we'd been married all of about four months and he decides to open a tire store. I was like, "Uh- you can't do that. How can you do that? Where do you get those towels on rollers to put in the restroom?" "How do you get a coke machine?" Etc.
And then he did it.
He just did it. He worked sixty-plus hours a week, he put his heart and soul into it and he did it. And then he bought a piece of property on another side of town and he and his daddy BUILT a building and shop and he continued his business there and then he sold that and built another business next door, selling cars with a partner, and THEN he built a little plaza there and a bank building and THEN he started selling cars on a one-to-one basis with an office in a bank.

And every time and I mean EVERY time he's ever come up with a new idea I'm like, "You can't do that. How can you do that?" Etc.

So. Well. We shall see.

After our little research trip I went to the library and to Publix, came home, did all the chores I had not done this morning, and now I'm going to make some pesto and pasta with a few scallops and a nice big salad. Sounds good, doesn't it? To me, anyway. The basil in the garden is coming on strong and I can't get enough of it.

But like I said, I'm tired. And I've had to have another very serious talk with Maurice about waking us up at night. I started out the same way I started last time by saying, "Maurice, I love and adore you." She gave me a glance. "In fact, I respect and admire you!" I said. She leaped up on the shelf where her food bowl was and began to eat.
"Look at me when I talk to you!" I told her.
She flicked a Little Friskie's crumb at me.
I finished my speech but I'm pretty sure she did not hear a word I said.

Just like Mr. Moon when I tell him I don't want him working sixty-hour work weeks again.

Oh well. Cat will do what cat will do.
Man will do what man will do.

And me? I'm going to bed about 9:00. Boys coming tomorrow afternoon.

And trust me- boys will do what boys will do.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I made lemon pepper pasta this morning from scratch as they say and cooked with some morels that I found in a place that I'm not telling.

  2. Well, more power to Mr. Moon. I would not want to work 60 hours a week again---unless I absolutely had to do that. He has an entrepreneurial spirit. I don't focus much on making more money. And that probably is a failure of mine with regard to risk taking with it.

  3. Rebecca- God. I need to learn about mushrooms. The only ones I can ID for sure are the ones that make you have visions. My yard is filled with lovely fat ones right now. Not the vision-ones. I'll bet some of them would be heaven on a plate.

Syd- For this man, it's more of something to leave for the kids and business opportunities for them. I swear. He has a very nurturing spirit and the way he nurtures is to take care of in a very concrete way. We are all born to be different in every way. And this is his way. And if it had been merely up to me, as I always say, I'd be living in a van down by the river.

  5. People with business sense astonish me. Aliens form another planet. Yeah, they came here and started this Earth business.

  7. I love the idea of a Mr. Moon world with all the little Moons working there in perpetuity.

  8. I am impressed with his entrepreneurial drive. My father, while a good father, certainly did not concern himself with leaving any way for me to make a living! (Well, beyond sending me to college, which of course was no small expense.) I wouldn't want to launch a business. That just sounds too exhausting. I hate to say it, but I'd rather work for The Man.
