I feel sick and so sad and so very, very bad.
I forgot to shut the chickens and ducks up properly last night. I never do that. Never. Ever.
And something got in and ate one of the ducks.
What is that other duck going to do? She's already walking around the yard and calling for her partner.
I have no idea how I did that. I have an entire system of opening certain doors to them and then letting them go into the hen house while keeping Mama and the chicks in their box and shutting them up and last night...I just didn't.
How very odd that in one day I saved one hen's life and then caused the death of a duck.
Sick. I feel sick.
Oh, I'm sorry. That's an awful feeling.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. All I know to say is that I'm sorry for you.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm so sorry!
ReplyDeleteDon't be so hard on yourself. Accidents happen, even to those with the best intentions. Try to be kind to yourself today. Xox
ReplyDeleteOh no, I am so sorry. Gail
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Mary. It's hard when you live in predatorville. When I lived in Tucson, I didn't let the cats out because of coyotes. Nature is always waiting for its moment, it seems.
ReplyDelete-Amna
I am so sad for you. I let out a gasp when I read about the duck. So sorry for you.
ReplyDeleteOh, no, Mary, I'm so sorry. It's an awful thing to happen. It happens, though. It's a human risk. Would the duck accept a new duck friend, I wonder?
ReplyDeletejo(e) - It is. An awful feeling.
ReplyDeleteMarty- Thank you.
Blue Gal- Me too. So sorry.
But mostly for Miss Lilly who has lost her Willy.
Heartinhand- It keeps being a weird day. I don't know why.
Gail- Yeah. I just feel so stupid.
Amna- And everything loves to eat poultry. Hell.
Anonymous- Thank you for being kind.
Jo- I have no idea.
Makes me feel sick, too. I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry - my stomach fell a little when I read this this morning. Fell for the poor ducks and fell for you - with such a heavy heart you will have today.
ReplyDeleteBut you will do something good today as well - that's our Mary.
I am so sorry. But be gentle with yourself in this. You did not intend it. Things happen. Is it possible the duck might be able to bond with another comrade? Oh I hope so.
ReplyDeleteoh Mary, shit happens. none of us are perfect and sometimes we forget important things. but it does not make you a bad person.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. Amna said what I was thinking - it's hard when there's always something waiting to pounce on something else.
ReplyDeleteShit. Shitty shitty. I'm sorry.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for you! What an awful thing. x
ReplyDeleteOh Mary. This is heartbreaking and shit happens. You made a mistake. Please be as kind to yourself as you would be to any of the rest of us. I'm sending you a great big virtual hug and a shoulder to cry on. I'm sorry.
ReplyDeleteAw, I hate it when that kind of thing happens! Maybe you can find a new companion for the lonely duck, for she will be lonely...poor thing. Oh, maybe even a drake; ducks are great brooders and mamas, and the new life would sooth a world of sad...
ReplyDeleteAw jeez, I am sorry about this.
ReplyDeleteOh no. Mary, I'm so so so sorry.
ReplyDeleteSometimes these things happen. Who knows why. All it takes is a moment of distraction, of thinking about something else. Try not to blame yourself too much. It's human to make a mistake, and it's just unfortunate that in this circumstance it had those consequences.
ReplyDeleteI should add: This was just nature, taking its course. We can never really defeat nature! You should be proud that you have been such a fine protector of these birds over many months and years.
ReplyDeleteThis is sad, really sad. Just last night, I was talking with my daughter about the one and only evening we forgot to shut the second door to the rabbit hutch ever - and the fox got it that night. That was 25 yrs ago . . .
ReplyDeletei am so sorry.
ReplyDeletesending love and light dear-
xxalainazz
Sorry about the duck. We make mistakes. Be easy on yourself.
