It occurred to me this morning that at the same time (approximately) that the US government was helping thousands of Nazi war criminals relocate to the states, they were doing their best to prevent the Rolling Stones from ever setting foot here again.
Because- you know- rock and roll.
And sex and drugs.
People who'd done horrible experiments on children resulting in their deaths were fine and dandy but a group of long-haired musicians were absolutely not to be tolerated.
And of course, John Lennon, that well-known pacifist? God knows he wasn't the sort we needed here.
It's not so hard to see why hippies became hippies.
Truly, some of the evilest people in the world have to have assumed the position of Guardians of Morality. It would be funny if it weren't so destructive.
ReplyDeleteGood gawd.
ReplyDeleteI was born at the tail end of the hippee movement. It is too bad because I would have loved to see so many people working towards a common goal. Makes me wonder if that will ever happen again.
ReplyDeleteJo- Somehow, knowing this has liberated me.
ReplyDeleteDenise- You know what I'm talking about.
Birdie- No. I dont think it will. No one cares enough anymore.
And some people today are conservatives who were hippies back then. WTF happened?
ReplyDeleteSyd- They didn't smoke enough dope.
