One Of Our Neighbors

Hawk in the twilight, standing under the sprinkler on the garden fence.

  1. Awesome! What a gorgeous bird.

  2. My Love loves to watch the hawks where we live. He often will come in and tell me to come outside to see them as they fly looking for their dinner. Just so they don't look to closely at the hens!

  3. So magnificent. Hope that the chickens were tucked away.

  4. I think that hawks really enjoy watching humans. I see them perched all the time by the interstate. I love them.

  5. A magnifient bird, so close to home. Does he pose a threat to your chickens?

  6. So gorgeous! Stay away from the chickens!

  7. Impressive bird and great that he stayed to pose for you! He or she is HUGE... Magical.

  8. Well that's just neat! I love birds of prey. The other day I was walking in my neighborhood and one of those fierce ones swooped in from the sky and tried to get a squirrel off of a tree. The squirrel hissed and bared its tiny teeth, which freaked out the bird (I think it was a juvenile red tailed hawk). The hawk flew away, and the squirrel ran around in circles in the tree for about five minutes. And just yesterday on the way home from work there were twenty-odd vultures eating a deer carcass on the side of the road. I swear to God they were socializing, talking while they ate. A spooky pot luck. Oooh, I went on for a bit there, didn't it?

  9. That's one good-looking neighbor. Wowsa!

  10. Lo- She/He was sure enjoying the shower, too.

Ellen- The odd thing was that the chickens were all around him. I think he just wanted a bath.

Syd- See above. But no chickens were attacked.

Rebecca- They are curious, aren't they?

Ellen Abbott- I thought so too.

    Elizabeth- Yep.

Elisabeth- He would definitely pose a threat to a small chicken.

NOLA- I love how everyone is concerned for my chicks.

Jo- There are SOME reasons to live here.

Photocat- He allowed me to get quite close.

    Silverfinofhope- Spooky pot-luck- exactly!

Ms. Bastard-Beloved- Yes. This would be a very good-looking neighbor. A fine specimen of animal beauty!

Tell me, sweeties. Tell me what you think.
