Local Politics

So when I wrote last week about one of Tallahassee's city commissioners making that incredibly ignorant comment about "homosexual church people" who were committing acts of molestation, I neglected to mention that Tallahassee author, playwright, actress, and gay activist, Terry Galloway charged the dais and was removed from the room when he made that comment.

Here is Bill Proctor, the city commissioner:

Here is Terry Galloway, the author of a book entitled Mean Little Deaf Queer:

In today's Tallahassee Democrat, it has been reported that Mr. Proctor is calling for extra security for the next commission meeting. He said, "I suffered an uncivil reaction from an alleged deaf citizen who charged the dais toward me as I was speaking and the Commission was deliberating."

Another commissioner, Bob Rackleff, has stated that no extra security will be needed, saying that Commissioner Proctor was not and will not be danger of 'bodily injury' from audience members whose 'face appeared dangerous' 'having deadly potential' and might have been 'hearing...maybe demons.' The quotes are from the letter which Proctor wrote to Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell.

Could things be more absurd? I mean, really.
Poor Mr. Proctor, worried that an "allegedly" deaf fifty-nine year old woman hearing maybe demons is going to harm him. BODILY!

Well, she does call herself mean in the title of her book which frankly, I think Mr. Proctor should read in the interest of educating himself a little bit.

  2. If Proctor is speaking, it's self-serving grandstanding with ignorance and stereotypes filling in the blanks of his boiler plate speeches which he thinks make him sound smart and "politician-like".

    He's an idiot.

  5. Once I read "alleged deaf citizen" I was kind of lost and was no longer able to focus.

Could anyone that used that kind of statement NOT be ignorant?

  14. I fucking ADORE Terry, and really, she can do no wrong in my book. She's probably just HAD it with all the hypocrisy and bigotry and ignorance, and just snapped!

She's never been anything but dear to me... but then again, I've never given her a reason not to be I guess.

    Good post.
