Walking Pictures, Plus An Anniversary

I got out and took a good walk this morning. It's not quite as hot as it has been, although it's certainly hot enough for me to sweat like a Trojan. I believe my grandmother used to say that although I may be making that up.

It is a beautiful morning with dramatic sky, clear one moment and with picture clouds forming and shifting and changing overhead the next.

I saw at least six little bunnies running across or beside the road which is an unusual number for one of my walks. Here's one who I think was quite young and was as curious about me as I was about her. Or him. As the case may be.

I love to watch them run, their little tails bobbing up and down as they go.

I found this tiny flower when I ducked back off the trail and into the woods to pee.

I have looked it up and it is a mimosa microphylla, otherwise known as "little leaf sensitive briar" or "little leaf mimosa". It is a member of the pea family and if the leaves are touched, they fold up. Isn't it pretty?

Okay. This picture is of a mud puddle.

A large mud puddle, I grant you, but isn't it beautiful? It is to me as it indicates we've had some good rain.

And there you go. It's Monday and another week begins. Wednesday is May's birthday and Thursday is Gibson's graduation from Pre-K. It is the time of year for celebrations and cakes and baby bunnies and blooming wild flowers and heat and sweet showers and the perfume of magnolia blossoms in the air.

And I just remembered! Today is the tenth anniversary of my blog. This post will mark the six thousandth, six hundred and thirty-second post I've published.
No. I can't believe that either.
If I may ask a favor- would you leave a comment if you care to, to help me celebrate? Maybe tell me how you found me, how long you've been here, where you're from, etc?
I would appreciate that so much.
Thank you.

So Much Love...Ms. Moon

  4. Ms. Moon,

Congratulations on your long, long journey. Keeping up a blog is no easy task and I need no encouragement to comment about yours. It has now become a daily read for me whenever I can get to my computer. I came to you because I was encouraged to do so by Vladimir Trump, our current dictator in chief. After his rise to power I could no longer read the news and other things I had become accustomed to on line. I did have some places to go to find something to read as I am waking up and one of them sent me to Shadows and Light. His blog roll is a long one and there you were. I determined to look at everything Steve had on his blog roll and so everyday I would pick one or two new blogs and experiment.
Because of your beautiful family and your interactions with them, when I open your blog it is as if I have stepped back to an early time in my life and I have, “called,” home. Thanks for sharing with us. For me you are a breath of fresh air.

It's easier to quit writing than to keep going, and it's not easy to write as well as you do, so thanks for doing what you do! 13. Congratulations dear Mary! I remember exactly when and how I found you. It was just before Thanksgiving 2009. Maggie May Etheridge (Flyx Capacitor) did a post on bloggers she loved and she linked some posts, among them one of yours about "bringing out the Duck," and one of Tearful Dishwashers. I found you both at the same time! Your generosity of spirit, deep family feeling, opinionatedness, and profanity made me love you at once. And Owen. I fell for him at once too. He was a small tyke, helping you sweep, brushing your hair with such tenderness, a boy so loving and loved. I've been coming around ever since, watching you beautiful family grow and thrive, rocking with you through the tough, anxious days, loving you madly. Big hugs. I'm so grateful you write here. As long as you keep doing it I'll keep coming around. ❤

I truly appreciate how you share the good times with your family. I share the dark moods that come to you and although my dark moods are not yours it is comforting to read the descriptions and know I am not alone. 17. Congratulations on your anniversary! That is quite the achievement, 10 years. If my memory is serving me correctly I found you through Shadows and Light, and I think I found Steve through The Gold Puppy blog. I think...and I can't remember exactly how long ago that was. But, I've been reading you and Shadows and Light daily ever since. I enjoy both of your blogs so much. I am originally from Idaho, moved to Pittsburgh PA and now I'm living in Corvallis Oregon. Because my roots are in Idaho, which is so very, very Republican dominated and my family and a lot of the people I know have political viewpoints that are vastly different than mine, I come here to bask in some political and idealogical viewpoints that are similar to mine. Sometimes, what you write is just exactly what I need to hear. I appreciate that you post so frequently and sometimes I feel a bit guilty that I lurk about and enjoy the small glimpse of your life so much without adding anything to the comments. I love your deeper thoughts and glimpses into the things you struggle with, and I can relate to those struggles in so many ways, but I also love that some of your posts are lighter hearted, about your walks, the things you see in Lloyd and your family. I just love it all. Thanks so much for writing. <3 Dee

How could I go on, not knowing what was happening to all your beloveds...just inconceivable to me. So, Universe, take me first please.
I think I've told you how I found your blog but I'll tell it again...back in '09 a popular blog was "The Spohrs Are Multiplying" in which Heather blogged about her beautiful child Madeline who was premature but lived until 2 then unexpectedly died. On Sept 1,2009, Heather's post was "My Favorite Shirt", it was heartbreaking to say the least. You left this response, "Ms. Moon says:

.= Ms. Moon´s last blog ..From Anxiety to Logic to Love to Answers. (I hope it was ok to post this), it touched me deeply. I quickly clicked on your link and I was forever captivated. I don't know you but I love you and I'm forever grateful to you for your kindness to me when my Ben died. I'm so glad to live in a world with Mary Moon in it and hope I always do. Happy Anniversary! 34. Hi Mary, or should I say g'day since I'm from Australia. Brisbane to be exact.

I found your blog (only quite recently) via John Gray's which I read semi regularly, and I found his via an Australian lady called Lee. I found Lee's blog when I googled Aussie food blogs! Mind you I no longer bother with hers because she is way too right wing for me, and it can be tiresome reading a blog when you disagree completely with what someone is saying. She does sound like a sweet person otherwise, to be fair.

And since you have written so many posts, I need to go back and read a whole lot more of them!

It's funny how we miss the bloggers that don't write anymore. I don't have a blog myself, but I read a fair few, most of them focused on art. Your blog and John G's are such comfy cozy ones for me, having a similar sensibility somehow, with lifestyle and animals. I have lived up here in the boonies northern Vermont for almost 18 years now. We settled in to raise the kids in one spot. Thanks for sharing your musings and family, it's been such a treasure! Hugs, Carroll

I followed a link to you another blogger (who shortly after quit writing) had posted on her blog. I don't remember what the post was about exactly. You said fuck a couple of times unapologetically and I guess that was all it took. Besides, you know, agreeing with whatever you said. anyway, I think I commented so if you get bored you can scroll back and find my very first comment and then we'll know exactly. and I live on the Texas coastal plains about 60 miles inland outside small town Wharton with less than 9,000 people.

I was hooked after the first few posts and knew I loved your life, your observations, shared your joy at simple things like loving your husband, your family and your animals. I've been honored to *witness* the birth of 3 of your grandchildren......... and you make me smile, or sigh, or cry every day. Thank you for sharing your life, the ups and downs, the joys and the sorrows
    love from California

  45. Happy Anniversary, Mary! I'm just getting caught up after a few busy days and see that I'm your 90th commenter ~ WOW! TEN YEARS!!! You know how I found you, through our beautiful Lis and Lon. I've been loving your blog from the beginning, and as I've told you before, you have been my touchstone throughout the years as you've succinctly described the joys, the fears, the angst, and most of all, the LOVE that flows through our days and years. Please keep writing, dear friend. I don't know what I'd do without you. Love, love, and more love, Lorie

    1. Well, half of those comments are my replies so it's not as impressive as it looks, sweet Lulumarie! So many good things have been instigated via Lon and Lis, haven't they? They're like the battery source of sweet and good things. As are YOU! I love you to pieces, you beautiful woman!

  49. I have read this blog for five years or more, but I forget how I found it. Maybe from the Grady Doctor blog? I'm in the south, too, and I love walking in the woods!

Yes- walking in the woods is a beautiful thing.

  51. Goodness I am late with my reply Ms. Mary. I found your blog through one of your comments made to our lovely John Gray at 'Going Gently' and have followed you for....ummm, I dunno maybe three years now? I stink at making comments but once again I can say I never miss a day reading your blog and take great comfort from your words. Congratulations on your ten years!

  52. Hi Ms. Moon, I love your blog very much! I found you through Steve Reed's blog, which is another favorite. I am a west-coast native, but my mother is from the deep south and the feeling of that very "different" place I remember from our childhood visits comes through so strongly in your blog. But mostly I just think you are a brilliant writer! I love how you use language and, being your age, agree with you on every little thing from the glories of Keith Richards to the horrors of the current (cannot be named) occupant in DC. Thanks for sharing yourself with the world!
