I'm not kidding you, the sky looked like that five minutes ago and I tried to take a picture of the waxing moon but it didn't come out. I don't know why.
I'm not upset about it, I'm not upset about one damn thing except the fumes of the flea spray Mr. Moon just doused our dogs with. We're in a battle with the fleas here which have become immune to Front Line and Advantage and dang, if this shit won't kill the little fuckers, I don't know what will.
Might kill the dogs and us too but I'm hoping not tonight.
I just dug back into that novel some more and here's the problem with it: it's too close to damn home. It's not a bad book although it needs massive edits and tightening and purging and so forth but it's just too close to home. Which means the bone. Which means...am I a writer or am I a shy little writer-wanna be?
Well, I will ponder this some more. I'm sorry I use the word "ponder" so much but it's one of my favorite words in the English language. I fell in love with it when I was a child and playing Mary in the church Nativity and the narrator said, "And Mary took these things and she pondered them in her heart."
I've been pondering ever since and I probably will continue to ponder until the day I die.
Soybeans are simmering, bread is rising. Fumes are dissipating, sun has set, Mr. Moon is ready to play some cards, Prairie Home Companion is on, I'm dressed like a homeless person in Goodwill Levi's and cashmere. In short, life is good.
Saturday night.
Y'all be well.
Love...Ms. Moon
I can see you Mary in your Goodwill clothes, pondering the nature of life and all that, fingers poised over the keyboard and it's a great image.
ReplyDeleteEvenings like these are to remember.
Nothing wrong with ponder.
ReplyDeleteyou are a writer. novels are always close to the bone. especially first novels. writers sometimes later learn disguise it better but that first book has to come out the way it does, close to the bone. the idea of your close-to-the-bone book thrills me. i hope i will get to read it one day. love, angella
ReplyDeleteOur damn poodle has had fleas immune to all that expensive stuff despite my diligent administrations. However, last month we tried this once-a-month pill called Confortis that we got from a vet and dang -- it finally worked! It cost about a gazillion dollars and I wish I were the type person to say that the dog is worth it, but I'm not. I just hated the fleas and have an irrational fear that they're going to be ingested by one of my kids and travel up to their brain and eat it. That fear is based on another story which I'll tell you about another time. :)
ReplyDeleteElisabeth- Ah. Good. Then I have done my job. Thank you, always, for reading and for commenting.
ReplyDeleteStephanie- That's what I think!
Angella- Hell, girl. This is like the third or fourth novel I've written. Seriously. And yet, it's the closest to the bone. I started writing it with the thought that I would just let it all out. I wish it sucked more than it does.
I love your writing. Especially how close it gets to the bone.
ReplyDeleteI ponder things too :) As you well know. Love you.
ReplyDeletewe also have the epic battle with fleas- kitty got her bath today.
ReplyDeleteyou are indeed a writer, no pondering necessary.
xxalainaxx
Ponder is a great word.
ReplyDeleteHow do you feel about writing a non fiction book?
Cleaned a house today, just wish it was mine.
Just got out of a hot bubble bath.
Such a treat to read you.
Night night.
Wish I could have some of that bread.
I like to ponder myself.
ReplyDeleteFleas hate water so if the dogs have an unfortunate incident in the water your problem(s) will be solved. Killing two birds with one stone, as they say.
ReplyDeleteGet your yard sprayed it will kill the fleas so when your dogs go out they are not picking more fleas. And bring more in the house.
ReplyDeleteDanielle suggested I might be more of a Lady Writer, and sadly I think he's right.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot to be said for other readers... I bet there's lots of people here ready and willing to offer perspective!
This shit kills the little fuckers
