Just An Old Peasant Woman On A Little Piece Of Dirt

This.
Chickens and clothes on the line and the first potato has busted ground.

Who knew I was such a peasant? Who knew that these were the things that would make me so happy?

And I'm going to go have lunch with Billy in Monticello today and I'm pretty dang excited about that.

Dear god. Please keep me out of the Tractor Supply there where they have baby chicks.
Or not.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Free Range Chickens just make me Happy to behold... so if you do decide on more baby Chicks, they appear to have a slice of Heaven here on Earth at your piece of dirt and will be very lucky poultry indeed! Dawn... The Bohemian

    1. Well, I lose so many chickens to dogs and other (more natural) predators that I probably shouldn't get any more but I just love them so. And yes, while they're alive, they are extremely happy.

  2. This was the most exciting time of year for us. Mom would order the chicks. The hatchery was on the west side of the state and they would ship those babies in a big cardboard box IN THE MAIL. I could never believe they did that. Vernon, the mailman in the very small town in Oregon where we lived, would call us to tell us our chicks were there. Only one time did we find a dead one. We used to get 100 at a time.
We started them in the basement of our huge house where my brother and I slept. We used a child's swimming pool surround and put down peat moss on the floor. One heat lamp at one side of it.
Next came the turkey chicks, about a dozen each year.
One year we hatched ducks too, in our own incubator.

We had a 6 acre farm and there were a dozen of us at home at that time. I am the 12th of 15 children.
    :)

    Thanks for the nice post.

    1. A hundred at a time! Oh my lord! And fifteen children! Really? Amazing. Your mama must have been a force of nature. Thank YOU for this little slice of your life. I feel humbled, just reading it.

  3. There's something about clothes on the line that bring me such peace! Maybe because I'd help my Mama carry the basket of sheets out to the line, hand her the pins to hang them, then bury my face in them several times throughout my day. The smell of sheets on the line still brings tears to my eye. Thanks for the picture....it's heavenly.

    1. There truly is something absolutely primal and lovely about the smell of clothes and sheets and towels dried on the line. Absolutely.

    1. You know, I did put a filter on it and I'm not ashamed to admit it. It came out really nicely.

    1. Supply and demand dictated my no-chick purchase today.
      But, they're getting more tomorrow.

    1. You never know what you're going to get when you take a picture. Sometimes it's not what you are really seeing at all and sometimes it's even better.
