Cat Worming And Other Topics

My day started out with trying to get some worm-medicine-laced stinky cat food down Jack's throat. Not what I would have chosen and it's a long story as to why my day started out with that but let's just leave it at the fact that it did and move on except to say that I did get most of the goop down him and also, that I now need to replace the curtain in the kitchen bathroom.
I needed to replace it anyway because it's naught but a piece of vintage cloth that I thumbtacked up there almost fourteen years ago as a temporary solution so the cat really did me a favor when he slashed it like Sylvester the Cat on a Tweety Bird rage.

But you know- that's nothing, not even a problem by First World definition and the day got a lot better when Jessie and her boys and I went to TJ Maxx and then to lunch and then to Trader Joe's. I bought a new ironing board cover at TJ Maxx which sort of thrills me. August helped me pick it out. He has subdued taste.
Unlike me. Jessie found a huge Virgin of Guadalupe charm in the sale portion of the jewelry display and she bought it for me because I love it so much. It's backed and surrounded with actual silver and only cost twelve bucks which was only two more dollars than the ironing board cover!

I feel like the Pope. Or perhaps the Popeacita.

I mostly had fun chatting with August as we shopped. Jessie needed some picture frames but of course we had to go down all of the aisles to check out the goods. As much as I am determined to avoid buying useless dust catchers, I am sort of tempted to buy everything in that store but I restrain myself. I remember when Lily and Jason and the kids and I all stayed at an Air BnB in Jacksonville last year and the place looked like a TJ Maxx had exploded in it.
One can go too far even if taste and irony are involved.
I bought August two books because he was a good boy and I also got Levon a new toy because he was a good boy, too.
Then we went to lunch and that's where I took that picture up at the top of Mr. Grin. Look at that happy boy!

Here's August, eating some mac cheese.

Jessie told me that the other day August had said that Mer was "sweet and kind." And then added, "But not Maggie." Haha! Actually, Maggie is sweet and kind but she does want to kiss a lot which is rather off-putting for August.

And then we went to Trader Joe's where I got a huge and immense sugar jones because of all the "healthy" (right) candy there but I didn't buy any. I got some extremely grain and seed laden crackers and some sundried tomatoes and something else but I can't remember what.

Got home to discover that there was a huge obvious leak in my bathroom. The rugs were soaked and it was pouring out water on the outside. I called Mr. Moon and he told me how to turn the water off at the street which I did and then he came home and figured it out.

It's not all put back together yet but the leak has been fixed and the water is back on and the rugs are in the washing machine. He is such a handy man. What in the world do people do who do not have a Mr. Moon?
I have no idea but I do and I am so grateful.

And Hank gave a speech at a convention in Orlando today about Queer kids at risk and you know I'm so proud of him. My kids are just...well, fucking amazing.

Gibson has the flu, it looks like, and Owen is doing better.
Maggie is Maggie, and that is a very good thing.

I'm gonna go make a meatloaf and some baked potatoes.

Love y'all...Ms. Moon

  1. How’s Owen these days with his seizure scares, speaking of the Jacksonville trip? I don’t comment much but always read and always love you! SJ

    1. Owen is doing really well. I do think he has an appointment in Jax this month though. I need to check on that because of course they cannot go without me.
      Right?
      Love you too, sweetie!

  2. Those of us who don't have a Mr. Moon spend a whole lot of money getting stuff like that fixed. Sigh.

"One can go too far even if taste and irony are involved" is one of your best lines ever.

    1. I concur - and I also have the compulsion to Acquire shiny stuff (my partner says I am a raccoon)....

    2. I swear, Elizabeth, having such a handy man about is absolutely a blessing. The only drawback is that because he CAN do just about anything, he hates paying anyone else to do stuff but his timeframe for repairs are not always the same as mine.
Mostly though, it works out really well.
I liked that line myself, to tell you the truth.

6279- I think we're all raccoons or perhaps crows who love to pick up and hoard the shiny objects.

  3. is that beadboard in that bathroom? Rocky is supposed to start next week and I think I'm going to put beadboard in the little bathroom but not all the way up. or tile. just can't decide.

    1. It's that cheap damn beadboard paneling. The people who lived here before us hired some shitty carpenters some times. The bathroom Mr. Moon is rebuilding right now is going to have real tongue and groove on the walls. And wainscoting. He's appalled at how much it's going to cost. But it's going to look good.

  4. I scare myself in this house that I do not understand, when something goes wrong I am not the person to call. As Mr. Fixit Man gets older and less inclined to make sense out of the nests of cords and pipes in this too big house, I am understanding downsizing and moving to a nearly off the grid two room cabin. At least I could fix a chink in the wall, duct tape and news paper and spit. I got skills!!!

    1. Those are skills. Absolutely! I hear you about downsizing. Simplicity rocks.

  6. I remember giving a cat worm medicine once. It involved ski pants, winter coat, oven mits, beach towels and two people. If we could tame that rage and fury we could rule the world and everyone would live in fear of pissing off The Cats.

    1. Well, this was Jack and not Maurice whom I would not try to get a pill down wearing a full suit of armor. Jack was so very polite and barely fought us. I mean, he didn't like it and he tried to avoid what we were doing but he didn't bite me even though I had my fingers all up in his mouth. He's a sweet kitty unlike some others we know.

  7. Haha Birdie! I can relate! Mary, count yourself lucky a curtain was the only casualty. Levon's smile is glorious sunshine. Hope Gibson feels better soon. This has been a horrible flu season. My husband tries to be handy, lets just say his heart is in the right place. Much love.

    1. Oh, I am SO grateful it was just a curtain and not an arm. Or face.
It has been a horrible flu season. I think Gibson will recover pretty quickly. He's a strong and hardy young man.
And hey- at least your husband tries. Well, that may not be for the best.
      Sigh.

  8. Your kids are amazing. Heck I’m proud of Hank! August and Maggie amuse me. Such distinct personalities. And you sure are lucky to have such a handy husband. And handsome too!

    1. Hank is worthy of pride, I tell you!
August and Maggie amuse me too. They could not be more different.
I think my handyman is pretty cute too.

  9. I suppose it was inevitable that Gibson would get the flu, too. Poor guy! I wish I had (or was myself) a Mr. Moon but sadly both Dave and I are uninspired when it comes to home repairs. Congrats to Hank for his speech! Was it recorded anywhere? Is it available online?

    Love that Virgin charm!

Oh, and hey, I'm sure people have asked you this, but what is up with your blog not loading lately? I get an error message about 75 percent of the time I try to look at it and have to reload the page. I think you said you were having this problem too. Any idea what's going on?!

    1. PS -- on the blog-not-loading question -- apparently it's not just you. Blogger in general is having problems. Something about cache and cookies and god knows what else.

    2. I need to ask Hank if it was recorded. I will do that.
Some of us are good with repairs and stuff and some of us have other gifts. And some of us can kind of do it all but we won't discuss those freaks.
As to the blog not loading- yes, as you know, I've noticed it too but it seems to happen intermittently. John Gray's did the same thing for me yesterday. Blogger better get that shit together.
