Completely Random And Meaningless

I no more know what to write about this morning than I know what to cook for supper and every day I go through this thing about what to cook for supper. Do you do that?
Is this the very definition of a First World problem?
I think it probably is.

Okay. In a completely unrelated subject, this picture just made me feel a lot better about myself:

Huffpost teased us with just the head part on the main page and the headline: Barely Recognizable (Oh, Huffpost! How bizarre you are and what would I do without you?) and I didn't know if it was a man or a woman. Actually, I thought maybe it was Boy George.
But...TADA! It's Madonna!
I am a complete sucker for those "Stars Without Make-Up" shots. Except for the eighteen year olds who look just as good or better without make-up as they do with but I don't know who those people are anyway, so what the fuck?
I wonder if Madonna goes through the same angst as the rest of us about aging. I can't imagine that she doesn't. According to Huffpost this picture was shot as she was on her way to the Kabbalah Center so perhaps she is trying to deal with aging issues by becoming more spiritual and shit.
Well, good for her.

It must be nice to be all spiritual and shit. I wouldn't know. I do know that Madonna's bod is still slammin' and that she looks cute in a Cub Scout outfit.

Okay. She was trying to make a point here. And I commend her for her slammin' bod and for the point she was making which is that the Boy Scouts need to jump on rocket ship and give up their stance on gay folks.

Linda Ronstadt rocked the Cub Scout uniform a long, long time ago.

Okay. That's hot.
Real hot.

Do I have a point here today? No. I do not. And I still don't know what to cook for supper. Meanwhile, I have EXECUTOR duties to do and they are going to be the last EXECUTOR duties I will have to perform and I have to go to town to do them. Also, I am meeting Lily. And taking Mr. Moon his phone which he left at home and which keeps ringing and is driving me crazy. Not a long drive, as Mr. Moon would say. He is right.

I better get busy. It's going to freeze tonight.

I'm taking suggestions as to what to cook for supper.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I love this post. And the random Linda Ronstadt photo was awesomely random.

  2. Beans and rice. That's my cold weather comfort food.

  3. I hate thinking of what to make for dinner/supper. I don't mind cooking it at all. Just tell me what to make. Obviously I have no suggestions for you. So good luck with that.

  4. I love this post, too. I also spent a few seconds thinking about what I'd look like in a Cub Scout uniform, and it wasn't pretty.

  5. Chop up and brown an onion in a 5 qt. pot
Pour in about a cup or so of white wine, reduce it some (or you could substitute chicken stock)
Add half a container of Cherub tomatoes, cut in half the long way
Add a can of white beans, rinsed and drained along with a can of diced tomatoes with the juice
Slice up two Aidelle Italian style chicken sausages throw them in
Add fennel, thyme, and whatever else you like
Cook for a bit, then slowly add about 1/2 to 3/4 pounds spinach until it wilts in.
Serve over pasta with some parmesan or whatever cheese.

    So, that's one suggestion.

  6. And that may be all I need to know.

  7. Good luck with supper. Me and Mrs. Shife have the same conversation every night. I always vote for pizza but then she politely reminds me that not everyone in our house has my metabolism. Hope the rest of your day goes well.

  8. Ideas: Ask Mr. Moon what he would like to eat, ask Owen what you should cook, have breakfast for dinner, have dessert and skip dinner (apple pie and ice cream -- you'll get your fruit and dairy), kale shake (just kidding), Costco pre-make, go out to eat, order take-out, call on a Jewish friend and get invited to a seder as there is always lots of food at those, short ribs. This was a funny random post. S. Jo

  9. One of our new mommas told me about this dish. Sounds delish-maybe not so much cheese....

    Love and kisses,

Baked Quinoa with Chicken Sausage and Spinach

Another make ahead meal? Yes, please! This was super delicious…made early in the afternoon and reheated before serving. Frank really, REALLY loved it, which made me very happy, considering how healthy it is (well, minus all the cheese I used, but come on…who can resist cheese!).

I can’t wait to make this again, using a different protein and cheese, different veggies…whatever it is, it’ll be just as good. And easy. Yum.

Baked Quinoa with Chicken Sausage & Spinach
1 cup quinoa, cooked according to package instructions
1 package chicken sausage (I used Trader Joe’s Fontina, Spinach & Roasted Garlic), cut into bite size pieces
    1 yellow onion, chopped
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
    3 garlic cloves
    1 bag baby spinach
    salt and pepper
    1 1/2 cups shredded swiss/gruyere blend cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add garlic and onion, then sausage. Season with salt and pepper. Cook through, then add spinach. Add salt and pepper again to taste. Cook until spinach is slightly wilted.

Pour sausage mixture into a deep pie plate, then add quinoa. Mix together. Top with cheese and
bake for about 20 minutes, until cheese has melted and everything is heated through.

  10. I'm sorry you had a crazy day. I'm happy you found a dress!

Oh man, I forgot to hit send and now it's five hours later and I still haven't made this comment!

I hope my senility isn't contagious.

  11. Chicken and dumplings... or maybe pork chops.

  12. what to fix for supper is no longer my problem since the man does the cooking around here. I do the cleaning up.

  13. Yes, yes and yes.

What to cook for dinner is the bane of my existence. I don't even care anymore, I just wish someone else would decide.

I just cooked a lot of rice and make stir fry with some leftover meat and whatever veggies I had on hand, and of course eggs. You have lots of those. Maybe you should make a quiche. Hope whatever you decide is easy and delicious.

  14. I wonder what Madonna would have looked like if she hadn't had all the surgery.

I made soup for myself tonight. Seet potatoes, onions, celery, leeks, butternut squash, potato, curry, cinnamon and lentils. It's very nice, I'm glad I've made it. Takes me a long time to work up to soup, sadly. All the chopping.

  15. You and Mr. Moon should curl up with a bowl of Apple Jacks and watch the Cartoon Network. Oh wait... that's what I'M gonna be doing.

  16. Did you notice that Madonna is wearing the same gloves in both pics that you posted?

And yes, the "What's for dinner?" quest is ever-present here, too. I'm out of town right now and wondering how Jacob is coping with that one on his own....

  17. Ronstadt was always so pretty. Madonna isn't attractive to me--all those hard pointed breast outfits, and weird costumes. Simple is better. She looks like an old gangster in the photo.

Soup is good on cold nights. We have learned from you to just throw a bunch of leftovers in a pot and eat it. My wife often asks me, "What would Mrs. Moon make?" LOL.

  18. gradydoctor- Wasn't she amazing, that Linda? Remember (oh, you're too young) when she lived in sin with the governor of California? Ah. The olden days.

NOLA- We eat a lot of beans. Tonight garbanzos.

Stephanie- Yes! I would make anything! Just tell me what.

Elizabeth- Some of those cub scouts don't look so great in those uniforms either.

Allison- Sounds great! I make things like that. Chop, add, stir, taste, add...over something. Always good.

Magnum- Is this a song lyric I should know? I feel stupid.
    As per usual.

Mr. Shife- Pizza is the answer to many, many questions.

    S. Jo- Mr. Moon always says either "clam spaghetti" or "white bean chili." Always.
Except today when he said, "Nothing."

Beth Coyote- Oh my yes. Must do this. But without so much cheese. You are right. Although I do adore cheese.
    So much.
    And you.
    More.

heartinhand- Don't worry. I already have it. Senility.

Ms. Fleur- Chicken and dumplings. Haven't made those in awhile. Thanks!

Ellen Abbott- What a great deal!

Mel- It was easy and delicious and I was SO hungry.

Jo- Soup is always good and that one sounds terrific.

    Nancy- Ha! Thanks, love.

Blogget Jones- Hello! Nice to meet you! I think Madonna is concerned about all those pictures of her creepy old hands on the internet. Bless her heart.

Syd- Linda Ronstadt was the bomb. She had it all. That makes me laugh to think of you guys wondering what I would cook for supper. That made my day!
