Bless Their Little Egg-Laying Hearts

Today's nest offerings.

Three. Three eggs. And none of them as big as the one from yesterday so I think I may have four hens laying.

See how they're all different colors? Aren't they beautiful?

Oh my.

Until Lily's baby is born, this is just about as much excitement as I can handle.

  1. They are so pretty. I keep coming back to see if there's baby news, so I hope you post something quick and dirty when there is. You know, kiss Lily and hold him first, but don't make us wait too long.

  2. I think Xbox is an odd duck; but I love him anyway.

Oh. Not what you had in mind? Eggs make me remember that I am ovulating right now, which makes me think of Lily and Owen, and of how much I want to have one more little baby of my own, which in turn makes me think that perhaps I should NOT, in fact, indulge in carnal pleasures for the next week just in case, because I am very fertile, like your (soon to be) prolific hens.

And in regards to an earlier post, of yours, I love the word adipose.

  3. Soon you'll have enough eggs for you and all your babies.

  4. Steph- I'll try and let everyone know when labor starts. Don't worry.

    Daddy X- Ovalicious!

Kori- I won't tell him you said so. It's so strange to me that I don't ovulate anymore. It was always so powerful when I did. I had to go through years of grief when I started going through menopause, even though I knew without a doubt I didn't want any more babies. Nature is a powerful thing.
And adipose is a useful word.

    Mwa- Like by next week!

  7. Nola- I can't tell you how proud I am of them.

Kyle- You're so welcome. Thank-you for looking!

  8. Can I have just one chicken or do they need friends and/or a rooster? I could totally use green eggs in my life.

  10. What a Beautiful Picture! I can't tell you how excited I am about your little eggs. I'm vicariously chicken-tending through you. I know I should get out more, but I just love this!

  11. You're one step ahead of everyone come Easter. No messy egg dye for you!

  12. Angie- Chickens are very social. I would say at LEAST two hens to make a flock. And they like having a rooster around. He's amusing and protects them from predators. Green eggs, blue eggs, brown eggs- who knows what color eggs I will be getting? Such surprises!

Ms. Windy- How are you? You may vicariously chicken-tend through me any day, any time.

  13. Rachel- The thing is, you can dye colored eggs and their colors will be so much richer. We were talking at Billy and Shayla's shower about how we're going to be dying colored eggs this year. We were excited.

  15. I just read something somewhere about a celebrity and his/her chickens. And the eggs looked EXACTLY like yours. And I smiled and thought of you when I read it and told myself to try and remember so that I could tell you about it. Damn. I forgot.

  18. They are so so pretty! I miss white ones around Easter since all the eggs here are brown, but lovely anyway!

  19. Anon- That is very interesting. Thank you. I am considering all angles and making some fun plans.

Elizabeth- Yes. All of us celebrities get together and talk about our chickens every Tuesday for lunch. It's so fun. Demi and Ashton's chickens lay polka-dotted eggs! But you know, they're so cool.

Adrienne- No baby yet. I don't know where my babies are. Just not checking in. And I changed my song last Saturday or Sunday. And it's been raining ever since and there's still NO PARTY!

Joy- I know. Makes supermarket eggs look downright boring, doesn't it?

    Michelle- Right here.

Aden- I wonder if I'll get any white ones at all.

  21. What a pretty picture. I have wanted a backyard flock for a long time now. I think now that it is starting to cool down here in Phoenix we will get a coop built and see about getting some chickens. I am excited! I had no idea they could make the colors that yours do.
