Oh, Look. She's Playing The Old Devil Rape Card

Despair this morning ever almost everything. A day when everything feels for naught. A day when human nature appears to me to be tipping over into a dark dense place of fear and hate.
A friend of mine on Facebook and in real life posted this picture this morning.

I love it and I understand it but it seems to me that humanity has for the most part fallen off that thin line completely and now plunges deep into the darkness below. Neither brain nor heart seem to matter to so many who choose instead to trust in the murky depths of hate and ideology.

The pure meanness and spite of some folks astonishes me and nothing else seems to make sense to explain Donald Trump or governors who refuse to accept Federal funds for health care or lawmakers who want to dictate where people pee and poop. Meanness, spite, and should I add a complete willingness, nay desire! to stay in the darkness of ignorance and denial.

Or maybe I'm just having one of those days.

And maybe I need to stay off the internet where I see things like this.

A mother of twelve who marches through Target with a Bible in her hand, warning that Target's inclusive restroom policy will lead to the "devil-raping" of her children and who has probably never given one thought to the fact that we are quickly (if have not already) reached the point of no-return when it comes to having a planet whose environment can sustain human life as we know it which is going to affect those twelve precious children of hers far more than transgendered people in restrooms ever will.

I'd say bless her heart, but fuck that shit.

So how are YOU today?

  1. Oh, yes, I saw that horrid video too. It's sickening and I understand your despair over the state of things in our country. The sad thing is, that I've met people like that woman and I'll bet you have too....which means they're almost commonplace. :(

If someone like that came in the bookstore where I work (and I'm surprised they haven't, we have a transgender friendly bathroom policy, too) I'd call the police and then let them know that they were banned forever. We should stand up to evil when it rears it's ugly head!

  3. When did this become a problem? Where were they going to the bathroom before? Let "sleeping bathrooms" lie. Or, is this an election year?

  4. Wow.

Ok, so I have news for that woman. One or possibly two of her kids are LGBQT. Just the odds. And they came right out of her body. So she is a vessel of wickedness her own self.

    Meanwhile, back on planet Earth.

In November I'm marrying my sweetheart, if all goes well. And then I guess we'll probably go straight (sic) to hell. Where we'll be in excellent company.

    Love and kisses,

    Beth

  5. Jennifer- I agree. We SHOULD stand up and if we do and are ignored or scorned, well, so what? We did our job. Sometimes that is the best we can do.

    Anonymous- Mmmmm.... Let me think.

Beth Coyote- And those kids' lives are going to be hell. Forget the hell which supposedly awaits us after death. Hell on earth is certain for some and I would think that any child of that woman who is LBGTQ is going to experience that for sure. I am SO excited to see pictures of you and your love as you become wife and wife. Woman and woman. Love and love.
    Amen.
Also? If I get to hell before you, I'll save you a seat at the bar.

    1. If heaven is full of people like that woman, who wouldn't rather go to hell?! Save me a seat, too!

  6. Oh, Mary. You have such a sensitive soul and heart. She is an angry woman who doesn't have even 1% of your kindness and love. She would *never* allow herself to be influenced by your loving ways so don't allow her to be influenced by her hate. Don't give her or anyone like her space in your heart. And if you figure out a way to do that let me know because I haven't figured it out either.
I do love you, dear Mary. Think on that instead.

  7. Feeling fragile, still. I'd like to just sleep a lot, for a week.

I don't know. I feel overwhelmed by all the mad hatred. I think I agree with you that the brain heart balance has plunged into something else. We're so sure we can know everything but we're forgotten how to feel as well, and I think it's so dangerous.

  8. If it's any consolation, I pretty much agree with everything you've said. And I'm not watching that video. I just don't want to make space in my life for boneheads.

  9. Ms. Moon...quite often your posts absolutely hit the nail right on the head.
This is one of those times.
You do have a way with words.
    Don't stop.
    Love you the most,
    Lon

  10. With you on all counts, dear Mary. I don't understand the hatefulness, or why people can't just live and let live. If she truly believed that Bible she's brandishing, she'd know that it's not her place to judge any of it. Let's not even get started on the whole love thy neighbor bit. If Beth is right (and I love her comment), she won't even be able to love her own children. Since I don't have to interact with this woman, I actually feel sorry for her. She is already in hell.

Here with you, however, is heaven. I hope the despair has lifted. I hope you can feel the love for you here. You are more holy than that woman ever will be.

  11. I hear you Mary. Sometimes I feel that the bad is outweighing the good. There are some crazy fuckers in this crazy world.

  12. Where do these people think trans people have been using the bathroom for years?
I'm sure Jesus said Love one another. If someone wants to quote the Bible that's where they should start.
    Very scary world.
Thank you for your posts. I read your blog every day. I don't comment too much tho. .

  14. I have my head buried in sand these days and read absolutely nothing other than some New Yorker articles. It's just too much.

  15. Jennifer- Will do.

Birdie- Thank you! It is just so hard to see things like this and not be scared for humanity. You know?

Jo- I think these people feel. They just seem to want to feel nothing but hate.

Steve Reed- Good choice, my friend!

Lon- You have no idea how much those words mean to me. Love you so, so much. Thank you.

Angella- I'm pretty sure these people do not read the Bibles they brandish as weapons in their own little battles against what they fear the most, which is...what? I'm not even sure.
    I love you. Thank you.

Leisha- You are fucking correct, madam!

Karen- Thank you and I thank you for letting me know you are there.

Joanne- I see all of us, lying in our beds, despairing. At least we're not out causing trouble.

Elizabeth- I hear you. You are wise.
