Theoretically

Mr. Moon and I are having a pre-trip martini.
Don't you judge us.
I was literally shaking this morning simply trying to decide what jewelry to take. I've spent all day mostly dealing with trying to get the schedule for house-sitting all figured out. And I think I have, thank god for the kindness and grace of friends. But you know what? This time tomorrow I'll be getting ready to watch the sun set over the Caribbean and none of this will matter one damn bit.
I was going through some pictures to send to Hank for possible artwork for this Shebooks thing I'm doing and I realized that I have seen some incredibly beautiful sunsets in my life.

Check this one out.

That one was in Cozumel but I have unbelievable shots of sunsets over the Apalachicola Bay as well as the Sebastian River.

Roseland,  Florida, over the Sebastian.

Dog Island, Florida, over the bay.

And tomorrow- another, should there be good weather. The dive boats will be heading back to the marina, the panga-style boats that they use in the Caribbean scooting across the channel between the Yucatan and Cozumel. Maybe we'll see one of the cruise ships, bigger than continents, being piloted away from the docks and into the sunset. In Cozumel, there is a Pilot of the Port and he has his own house on the waterfront. Every cruise ship who comes in to dock and every cruise ship who leaves the channel is piloted by the Piloto de Puerto. Or, you know, one of them.

I am trembling inside.

We have to be at Lily and Jason's house at 6:15 tomorrow morning to get our ride to the airport. Theoretically, I am about to make supper.
Theoretically, I am packed.
Theoretically, this will be the last meal I prepare in fourteen days.
Theoretically, things like this will be happening.

And quite frankly, I'll believe it when I see, smell, taste, feel it.

Love...Ms. Moon

  2. When I go to the ocean that I love there is no room for jewelry or laptops or any of that. It's wild and cocktail and tourist free except for the boardwalk in Newport Oregon in summer but even that's not jewelry worthy the fanciest I get is salt water taffy. I take one beach bag full of clothes but I only took one beach bag full of clothes to New York and Vermont. I hate checking my luggage.

You will have such great fun!

  3. Syd- I'll be thinking of you and your bride. I swear I will.

Rebecca- Part of the ritual for me is the wearing of the plata, the silver, all of which comes from Mexico. When I go to local oceans, I do not need to take a thing besides sunscreen and bug spray but when I go to Cozumel, I need more. You know how I live which is pretty-girl free. But when I'm in Mexico, oh, how I want to be pretty. How I want to smell of roses and wear white linen as my feet find their way over the side walks beside the ocean.

  12. No judgements here on a pre-trip martini. OK, that is a lie. I am judging you for not having 3 or 4!

  14. Oh my goodness!!! I am SO happy for you. Please tell us stories like you always do. I always remembered the really thin woman in the black bikini chain smoking and looking sad. I find myself wondering about her--makes no sense I know.

I know what Cozumel does for you soul. Happy for you, Sister Moon. And a pre-trip drink is what this doctor believes in and approves of!
