Although Sometimes...

The outside does come in to visit.

And must be helped back out to fly away into the greening shrubs.

  1. If you left him inside you would have had the beginnings of your aviary :)

  2. My parents once had a hummingbird in their garage but that's the closest to nature coming in for a visit, I've ever gotten. What a beautiful bird.

  3. Wow, I can't believe you picked that poor birdie up and held it long enough to take a picture. That's pretty badass of you.

  6. I reckon if he popped in to my house I'd go out and buy a lottery ticket. Or I'd give my partner the biggest kiss ever.

  8. You and your birds! What a beautiful cardinal. How did he get inside?

  9. He's gorgeous. And his claw (foot) is so much smaller than the late rooster's!

  10. Stephanie- True! But I just could not.

    Kori- Well then, come on.

    NOLA- I know.

Rebecca- The wrens and sparrows come in to make nests sometimes but the cardinals rarely visit us inside.

HoneyLuna- It was so much easier than catching a chicken. Plus- no pecking.

Lois- I know! Such a little red blessing.

Syd- Aren't the just happy birds?

DTG- And look at his eyes!

Nigel- Both very appropriate responses, I would say.

Lora- That's very cool that he does.

Juancho- Very simple- the door was open. He flew in. He wanted out and I easily grabbed him and took him outside.

    Jo- I know.

Nicol- See my response to Juancho above.

    Michele R- Seriously smaller.

  11. So pretty! To hold a bird is to hold a tender creature....I have held the hens...but when I held the doves we released at my father's memorial...I still feel the fast beat of their tiny heart...nature is such a lesson for us to hold special and protect...thank goodness you were able to help it find it's way outside.

  12. Dear Ms. Moon,
We have a joke here when our feeders are empty, because we have year-round families of cardinals, that the cardinals are massing for an attack. They sit on the back porch making their chirp, chirp, feed me feed me feed me sound, the babies fluttering their wings they way they do, and their red daddies rushing to feed them. They're so sweet and such family-oriented creatures that we love them, and always try to be sure we have the kind of seed they like best. But this made me laugh, because in your case it looks like they really DID plan an invasion, and someone actually got IN. :)
    Love,
    Angie

  13. *GASP* It IS wrong that my first reaction was a string of envious obscenities puncuated with words like "magical" and "adorable".

But, hey. That's what the cardinal inspires.

IT IS SO FUCKING WHIMSICAL AND FANTASTICALLY FUCKING ADORABLE HOLY SHIT.

    I'm sorry.

    It deserves better.

  14. In all the years in this house where birds come and go constantly I have only seen one Cardinal. And I love them. So I am envious, but the good envy of course. And I wish I could see more than one, one of these days.

This is for you, I guess you missed it:

Tante Marie Therese would had been in heaven if she could have held a bird, so I am sure she wouldn't mind my sharing this with you.
Trying to do only small things but the coughing brings me back to bed.

    This too shall pass...it better!

  16. Little cardinal
    Standing by the window ledge
    Outside looking in

You're picture inspired me to write that. Birds are so wonderful and can be surprisingly calm.

  19. Ellen- I was surprised at how easily I caught him, how un-panicked he seemed to be.

Angie C- He is reporting now to his comrades.

    Just.Kate- No. That was perfect.

Allegra- I DID see that and I DID comment but I suppose it got lost in the cyber-space. I have tried again.

    Elizabeth- Yes.

    Melissa- Thank-you for that.

Maggie May- And it was all so quick, quick.

Angie M- There was nothing for it but to do it.

    N2- Perhaps you are right.

  21. Oh my goodness, how did you capture him?

He doesn't look happy but he's not panicked either. You and Mr. Moon are the best.

  22. Deb- A cardinal fan or a Cardinal fan?

Ms. Bastard- I know, isn't he cute?

Kathleen Scott- I just gently grabbed him. No problem. And no, he didn't seem panicked and I took that picture REALLY quickly. It was a one-shot deal.
