Spending The Day In The O-Zone

Terrible picture but let me just say that being a caretaker is a lot busier than being merely a doting grandmother and there just wasn't time to grab a camera today. I'm serious! I held the boy almost all day long because...well, he likes to be held.

We had a bath and he loved that. We walked out to look at the chickens many times. We rocked. We had bottles. We went to Publix and he got to spend an hour with his mama and his daddy. We had more bottles. We changed lots of diapers. We played silly games. We had some grins. We hung out on every porch. We changed more diapers. We cried. We spit up. (You realize I am using the royal "we" here, right?) and we spent at least half an hour swinging in the porch swing on my little side-porch. He really liked that. I set him in my lap so he could look at the trees and we swung and swung. Mr. Moon came in while we were doing that and I said, "Here's what I have learned today. If you are doing something Owen likes, you need to keep doing it."
And that is the truth.

I didn't get the breakfast dishes washed until six o'clock tonight and I wouldn't have gotten ANYTHING done at all if Miss Petit Fleur hadn't come over with Harley and she held him and they sang him the ABC song until he fell asleep. Thanks, sweet neighbors!

But you know, it was wonderful. And he and I are going to learn each other and our ways and get our routine down and things will go easier. I feel so blessed to think that this little boy is going to know his grandmother and grandfather's house so well and will feel so comfortable with us.

So that's it. I'm just reporting in. He's coming back at eight tomorrow morning so I'm going to make a supper and maybe watch a movie and go to bed because I have another date with the boy and chickens to tend and, well, hell, that's about it if you want to get right down to it. I've mopped the kitchen floor tonight and so I feel like the world will be shiny and new tomorrow for our day together.

And I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow.

One more thing- all my chicken's names came back to me. Phew. That was weird.

  1. Hah Hah! You mopped the floor! Did you also turn up the music and dance? (it's ok if you didn't- that's just my way of having a good time.)

  2. Are you going to keep Owen regularly while Lily is at work? It is good he will know his grandparents' house - ALL of it when he's older and explores much more! What a journey you're on! It's wonderful and incredible and exhausting! :-) There are two of you there to take care of him and more family and neighbors. That helps! Just one of me here when I have Brendan.

  3. This makes me smile.

My first day with Harrison was a bit harried, but after that, it's been pretty smooth.

We are very lucky to get to know these little guys so well!

  4. Aww So sweet. I grandbabysat for my two oldest, they are 18 now, and I used to have to have my ten year make dinner. Your post brings back very fond memories...rocky rocky baby baby...ENJOY!

  5. HoneyLuna- No. I listened to Fresh Air. Good show! It was about the Smother's Brothers! Plus I talked to two people on the phone. I mopped twice. I probably should do it again.
    Naaaaasty.

Joy- No. Not all the time. Just when Lily and Jason are both working at the same time. But it's only me here. Mr. Moon is at work. My next door neighbor is an angel, though, and I always know she's there.

    Ginger- You are right!

Sally Moon- Or as I sing to Owen, Rock-a-rock-a-roni, Ride it like a pony. Ha! Sounds slightly obscene but he likes it! I wish I had a ten-year old to make dinner. That would help.

  6. We had a great time in the O-Zone today! And will gladly come back tomorrow if you want another break. Hey, we also have a stroller here. I will check to see if it has an Owen (infant) contraption... Maybe you could take him on your walk tomorrow? They do so love that. I strolled Harley every day to the PO.

Harley and I fed ole Ms Betty and Ms Red out of our hands after you left. Harley really dug that! Ms Betty is a sweet little bird... and I'm not even really a bird person. She lets me pet her! Harley had to hunt for eggs, so we left two of what we found in your fridge. (Ah hem, we sort of had to keep two of the pretty colored ones..)

The soup and stuffin is fabulouso as always. Harley ate a big bowl full for supper tonight. YUM. YUM.

Also I accidentally stole what I believe to have been Mr. Moon's water. Sorry! It was a case of mistaken bottle identity... I didn't realize my mistake till I got home and took a swig. Man, you guys have some city water! Anyway, please do make my apologies.

  9. I couldn't say so in your other post about Lily, but I sure do feel for her going back to work. It kills. But anyway, you and Owen sure are lovely and I'm so glad for you to have the opportunity to be together and for Lily and Jason to know he is in such good hands.

  11. Ms. Fleur- Since Betty hasn't got her flock anymore, she lets us humans be her familiars. She is sweet. And that water? I have no idea where it came from. So no problem.

Michelle- Of course he smells good! Uh-huh.

Lisa- I am the lucky one.

Stephanie- It is so hard on Lily but it's going to all work out.

Maggie May- Just you wait. One day you'll have the grandbabies. And it will be glorious.

Kori- HE is lovely. I am old.

Mwa- Ah, he's just a bundle of sweetness. A cranky bundle, sometimes, but sweetness, nonetheless.

Mama, I thought about you a lot yesterday.

  15. Lora- It really is.

Ms. Bastard- No kidding! Man, I must have have been nervous as hell. And this morning, just to make sure, I started going through them in my mind:
Sam, Elvis, Mable, Red, Betty, Sookie, Shalayla, Daffodil, Dolly, Miss Bob,and Penny. Thank-you, Jesus.

  17. Was I that intent on being constantly held?

  18. DTG- No. But I held you that much anyway.

  19. If only we all had a Ms. Moon to rock with all day and look at the trees with. I wish. Oh I wish.

  20. Daddy X- I believe I am living in the O-Zone these days.

Aunt Becky- Well, here I am. There's plenty of room on the porch swing.
