Remembering Magic

I am feeling as if whatever I might have to say tonight would be redundant, whiny, and tiresome.
But in the past few moments, two people have sent me links which have cheered me and soothed me and made me think.

My friend Kerry sent me a link to a New York Times article on Weeki Wachee Springs, which I have spoken of many times as it is a place I love. I hope to take Owen there soon, perhaps this September, because he is of the age where magic can happen.

Here's the link to that article.

Please watch the video at the top of the article too, if you have three minutes. And if you ever plan a trip to Florida, well...Disney is all well and good but Weeki Wachee is where real mermaids live.

And then, a commenter named Michelle sent me a link to an article by Wendell Berry entitled The Pleasure of Eating.

I read the article and thought about the deep pleasure that yes, we do experience when we eat that which we have brought forth from the ocean or the woods or the dirt by our own efforts. How much we respect that food. How every time I crack one of my hen's eggs, I am amazed by the simple miracle of it.

Thank you, Kerry. Thank you, Michelle.

Good night, y'all.

  1. I haven't felt the wonder of eating in a long time. Maybe the last time I pigged out on a pizza which was a year ago? Wow--we eat so sensibly here and lately nothing much has tasted good with this cold. Still it is hanging on and dragging me down.
