Another Sunday At The Church Of The Batshit Crazy

Jessie texted this morning that she was going to take the boys down to the Wacissa to see if they could safely play and swim about and in a while she texted again saying that although there were lots of boats going out, she and August and Levon were the only ones on the little beach area and would we like to come join them for a dip?
Oh yes we would.
So we lickitysplitted it into our bathing suits and into the car and on our way to the river and by the time we got there there were still only one or two other people in the water. Lovely. The boys were happily shoveling in the sand and August started jumping off the dock and I got in and dove under the crystal clear water for my first holy baptism of the summer.

I wanted to kiss Levon's little tummy so bad. This physical yearning for my babies is not getting any easier. But. Yesterday there was a 35% rise in the number of Covid cases reported in Florida which is the highest number we've recorded. We've already had 73,552 cases of reported Covid in the state and 1,295 deaths.
We have to be as safe as we can. This is not the time to become complacent. It just isn't.
At least that's what I think but I quickly realized at the river that it's not what a whole lot of other people think because just a few minutes after I had my little blessing dive, folks started arriving. Within twenty minutes there were people everywhere. The canoers and kayakers were coming in from the water and the rest of the hoards were coming in from the land. There must have been at least fifty people by the time we got packed up who rushed the little beachy area with their coolers, their chairs, their umbrellas, their floats, their towels, their kids.
And no one seemed to give one good damn about social distance.
We absolutely could not pack up our stuff quickly enough not to be exposed to I have no idea how many people. And masks?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Mr. Moon who was putting one of our chairs back in its carrying case politely said to one woman who was obviously desperate for our shady spot to please give him "ten minutes and six feet."
Twice he said that.
She completely ignored him.
He showed huge restraint in not screaming at her in my opinion.
This is just ridiculous. And the damn state AND federal government are being horribly irresponsible and reckless in allowing things to open up again. People are going to be flooding the state for their annual beach vacations and of course the fucking damn stupid shitass Republican convention is going to be held in Jacksonville in August.
I'm sick of all of it.
On our way to the river we passed a house that had a huge flagpole flying an American flag and a Trump/Pence flag, and there was an enormous cross in the yard. Big enough to crucify Godzilla on. Mr. Moon said, "They're missing one thing."
"What's that?" I asked.
"A confederate flag."
"Oh god. You're right," I told him.
Did I already say that I'm sick of all of it?
You know what's crazy? The fact that everyone in their right mind isn't protesting in the streets.
With masks on. Staying six feet apart.

Well. Here's another picture of my precious boys.

And I want to make it very clear that I am not complaining that we had to leave the river before we may have been quite ready to go. I feel extremely lucky that we were able to enjoy the peace and beauty of it for even a few minutes. When we felt that it was no longer a safe environment we had the choice to leave and we did. What I AM complaining about is the absolute disregard for personal or other people's safety that is being shown. If we had a president who listened to the advisors who are qualified to help him make decisions concerning the way this pandemic is being handled things would be different. But just as with racism, homophobia, misogyny and violence, Trump is enabling (and even encouraging) behavior which is nothing short of deadly.

I joke about going to hell. I don't believe in hell. Not in the least. But if I did, I think that Donald Trump, or King Dong as I think I will start calling him, would have a burning suite in the deepest, reddest, hottest pit of it just awaiting his arrival.
And he couldn't get there too fast for me.
I can't blame everything on him by any means. Obviously we are not the nation I believed we were. But by god, he does not have to constantly try to appeal to the lowest denominator of humanity while at the same time, blessing the richest of the rich with more and more ways to become even richer.

That's about it for now.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Trump stripped trans people if their health care protections on the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting. He is the worst. But I’m glad you got to see your precious boys and get a dip in that holy water. That’s what’s most real.

    1. That's exactly what I was thinking about. He has not one drop of intelligence or empathy or goodness in him. Not a one.

    3. He is surrounded by people who enable him and encourage him and they will not be treated well by history either.

  3. In my formerly sane state, the health director has resigned. She says to get some rest, but most feel to escape the hoards who want her resigned and gone so they can rush out and behave en masse, again. All I know is we old farts seem not be have reacted, but we're just the old farts.

  4. I'm glad you had a small slice of Bliss with those precious Grands before the Hoards of Covidiots arrived and ruined it all. Our State is ridiculous and our graphs of increased cases look like a Rocket Launch, almost 2,000 new cases daily and our Governor is a Covidiot and a Twitler Ass Kisser. Like your Family, we do whatever we can to stay as safe as we can, but outside of Home it's challenging.

  6. I don't understand people. They have been told what is wrong, what the virus does and how to avoid it and they choose not to follow the guidelines. WTF.

I wonder what will happen to people who go to tRump's rally in Tulsa and end up with COVID after they have signed the waiver. What will their insurance do? They knowingly exposed themselves to a serious disease. Or maybe tRump secretly hates republicans and this is a plot to reduce their numbers. Who knows what goes through that head?

    1. I think that people are just tired of it. We have no attention span. Not for anything unpleasant or difficult.
And I'm not so damn concerned about the people who GO to that rally but think of all the people in their communities they'll go back and expose? It's criminal.

  7. One of my very small pleasures, when I do have to go somewhere (masked and SDing), is to flip off every neighborhood sign for the orange slime and his sycophantic sidekick. The level of stupidity out there has reached gross proportions for all the reasons you have stated. My state is in the top 10 (in a bad way--almost 3k deaths), but you wouldn't know it from folks behavior.

  8. What a lovely spot to be able to go swimming in. And what is it about babies' bellies that makes us want to kiss them?

  9. well, at least you got a few minutes of coolness and peace. and yeah people are entitled and rude. you just can't be nice about it because they will ignore you. went to the Farmer's Market Sat morning to get local honey primarily. ust have had 16 maybe more vendors all right up next to each other even though there is plenty of space to spread out and lots of customers and I think I saw one other person wearing a mask besides myself even though we almost doubled the amount of infections in the last two weeks.

    1. We did and I'm grateful for that few minutes. I really am.
What are people going to do when the hospitals are overflowing? As more and more people get the virus and more and more people know or are related to someone who gets it, perhaps the reality will be more apparent. I don't know, Ellen. I do not know.

  10. I don't blame you for being annoyed. A lot of people are getting the message -- either implicitly or explicitly -- that the danger of coronavirus is overblown, if not an outright hoax. God only knows what any of those people are thinking. And yes, Trump (and his allies in the right-wing media) is largely responsible for that misinformation.

As Ellen said, at least you got a break and an opportunity for a swim and a distanced visit with the kids. That's worth a lot.

    1. You're exactly right- the message from the top is that it's overblown and/or a hoax. Yep.
And that little time at the river was worth everything.

  11. I read in "The Los Angeles Times" that King Dong's new tactic for addressing the coronavirus is simply not to mention it - as if it was nothing, as if it wasn't there at all. What kind of leadership is that? In times of crisis, a nation's leader should set the tone. King Dong has sent out entirely the wrong message. Is it true that those daily COVID briefings from The White House aren't happening any more?

    1. No more briefings on the virus as far as I know. I suppose King Dong is tired of them. Maybe he's tired of people making fun of him for advising treatments like drinking bleach. Plus, yes, I think he really feels like if he ignores it, it will go away.

  12. I couldn't agree with you more, about all of this. We have a wannabe Trump as our PM, but he's really controlled by the most evil man you have ever seen. I know you shouldnt judge people by their looks but this guy looks like a stage villain.
