Technicalities

Well, there's spamming and then there's spamming.
I woke up this morning to email alerts of over a thousand spammed comments here. So. Trying not to panic because hey! It's just a blog and it's just my email in-box.
I've tried to stop the problem and I hope I have but in doing so, I've probably eliminated some real blog comments and that breaks my heart and I've also had to start using comment user word verification which I know is a pain but so is trying to de-spam over a thousand comments.
I've also had to completely wipe out my e-mail inbox and I shudder to think of some of the things I've lost there.
Well. So it goes.
Therefore, commenting may be harder and I'm not sure I've solved the problem because even though the spammers' comments aren't showing up on the blog itself, I'm still getting e-mail notifications of them.
This is all so mysterious to me.
But then again, what isn't?

Have a good day, y'all.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

See you tonight for our regularly scheduled program.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Oh Mary, how awful! I keep getting spell caster spam and name meaning spam and it's so irritating. I can't imagine such a deluge!

  2. FYI, this didn't ask me to do any word verification. The comment just posted as usual.

  3. I've been wondering how you managed without putting up screening such as comment moderation. Can't blame you for doing it now.

  4. Mine too. On my blogs I have comment moderation which enables me to bulk delete spam. I think just having it is a deterrent, too.

  5. Oh no! This does not bode well for any of us, since we all tend to share the same spammers. I moderate everything on posts older than five days, though, so I don't think most of them would show up on my blog.
