If The Phone Doesn't Ring Then You Know That It's Me (I swiped that from Jimmy Buffett)

I feel as if I have achieved a new level of productivity today. It is such a gorgeous day, windy and cool and sunny, that I decided to hang the clothes out and I did, two loads, both with Owen. For the first load, I took him out in the stroller but for the second, I just laid him on a blanket on the ground. He was so happy there, looking at the sky and the trees, the laundry as I put it on the line and it took its wooden-pinned flight.

When I picked him up to take him in, I said, "Owen, now you have the sky in your eyes."
And he does.

He's back with his daddy now and I have so much to do around here and my Google Reader has fifty-four unread items and I have so many comments unanswered and you know what- I can't do it all. What I must do is attend to this house and you know how guilty that makes me feel, as if I am abandoning my job here in the blogosphere.

But I'm not. It's a day for mopping and sweeping and de-cluttering and scrubbing and taking the laundry off the line and folding it and putting it away.

It's a day for being alive and for being grateful for such a day and such a house to live such a life in.

So that's what I'm telling you. If I don't visit, if I don't answer, I am here, I am living this life today, and probably tomorrow too, with the sky in my eyes, and the breeze on my skin, the chitter of birds in my ears, and the smell of clean goodness in my nose.

  3. I miss having a clothesline; few things rival the smell of sheets and towels and shirts taken off a clothesline. Well-the smell of a baby's head rivals it, of course, but lucky you to have both!

  11. Glad to find someone else who takes photos of their washing. Barely have I hung out all my gear on the Hill's Host that I'm rushing back to the house for my Polaroid camera and snapping away. God knows what that's all about!

Such words of contentment with a baby watching you hang laundry...your way with words such a treat...I have been very behind on reading all the wonderful blogs I enjoy following so I am trying to catch up...your photo of the laundry on the line...I can hear the snap of linen in the wind...the crispness of them when you took them down. Delicious!
