Good Night, Good Morning

Ah. What a night it was. The play was lovely and I've never heard so many laughs from an audience in my life. Colin, as expected, stole the show. Before the curtain opened he was backstage dancing with joy. "Oh! This is going to be so much fun! So much fun!" He really was literally dancing.
And the curtains opened and it went off without a hitch and I could hear my daughters laughing and it seemed like the whole play lasted for twenty minutes. Just...zoom!
It was a happy, happy night.
And Lon and Lis were there and Lily and May and Jessie and of course Mr. Moon and my other Lon and Liz were there (yes, I have TWO Lon and Liz's, although one is Lis and one is Liz) and it was just FUN!
To top it all off, Lon brought Jessie's mandolin which he's been building for over a year. It's all done but the finish and I have never seen a girl so happy in my life as Jessie was, cradling that beautiful instrument in her lap.
She was otherworldly.

The mandolin sings, it rings, it's big and bold and fills the house with notes of silver and gold and opal and ruby and emerald and diamonds, soaring and joyful.

Here's Jessie and Lon, the man who built the mandolin, one-half of the couple she calls her Fairy-Godparents, the people who made her want to play the mandolin in the first place:

So that was BEFORE the show and then afterwards, we came back here and had martinis at eleven thirty at night and Jessie played more mandolin and I just felt like, well. I can't even describe it. It was a night to remember, a night to cherish, these dear people here whom we love so much, who have brought so much joy into our lives.

And this morning, after we all slept like bears, Owen came and here's a picture of that boy with his Fairy-Godgrandparents:

And Kathleen came over (and can I tell you how beautiful she was last night? Oh my.) and we had eggs and toast and coffee and tea and strawberry preserves and passed around the baby and then Lon and Lis had to leave because they're playing tonight in Gainesville. "Be safe, we love you," we called as they drove off, Lis in her velvet, her jewels, Lon in his sweet Lon-ness, and they drove through the gate and off to their lives.

We took Owen out to see the chickens and he grabbed the wire fence and stuck his nose through and I know he wants to grab those chickens. Not yet. Not yet.

And it's a beautiful morning here in Lloyd, sunny and warm and I just want to say good-morning and thank-you for all the good wishes. And do you know that XBox had his baby? Well, his wife had their baby. You can see her beautiful picture here.

I mean really- could there be a sweeter day?

Well, I hear there is a poopy diaper for Grandmother to change. One minute I'm the diva, the next I am the diaper-changing grandmother.
What could be better?
Nothing I know of. Not one darn thing.

  4. Fantastic. I knew you'd do it and do it well! I wish that I'd been there. And if you didn't show Owen sleeping, I would ask, "Do that baby's big, beautiful eyes ever close?"

  8. I can hear the laughter and the applause! Smell the martini's and breakfast and poopie diaper! Feel the tug as the Beloveds drive out the gate to their lives. Hasn't this been fun! And I feel fortunate to have found your spot on blogspot, and seriously, I never even knew there was such a vibrant, vibrating spot as Lloyd, Florida!

    Congratulations on all of it!!!

  10. Rebecca- And to you!

HoneyLuna- It is always a good day when you are here. I love you so.

Swallowtail- Yep. Lloyd is a happenin' place. And the mandolin IS a gift, but one we are paying for- this is partly how Lon makes his living. A beautiful way that brings music to this world.

  24. So glad the show was a divine success!!!! That everyone had a wonderful evening and post party as well...such a relief to have the first show behind and on to continued successful nights as well Ms. Moon. I was intrigued when I saw that lovely mandolin as my Love and son are building an electric guitar...started a couple of months ago but taking time to do it right...I do love the sound of a mandolin....sweet music indeed.
