The Agony And The Ecstasy

I believe I may have had the most entirely ecstatic sensorial experience of my entire life this morning at six a.m.

And yes, it happened while I was in bed.

I woke up with a hot flash and I reached for one of the pillows under the window which was cracked open to the below-freezing temperatures of the outside air and I pulled one of those freezing pillows to my body and it was better than anything I have ever experienced. And I say this as a woman who has given un-medicated birth four times. I say this as a woman who has swung from a few chandeliers in her life if you get my drift. I KNOW what good feels like.

So okay, maybe the experience wasn't as spiritual as the ones I've had when my babies were finally, after hours and days of labor, born and given unto my breast BUT, for a few short seconds this early morning, before the heat of my body overcame the cold of the pillow, it was the most pleasurable thing I can imagine or remember happening.

I know. I shouldn't admit to this. But it's the truth. And one day when YOU have hot flashes (if you are doomed to that and I hope you are not and if you are a man, you can just kiss my hot ass but no, really, I'm sorry, I love men, I do) you will remember reading this and you will know exactly what I meant and how very truthful these words are.

Happy Friday, y'all.

Love....Ms. Moon

  1. I hope to not get those for a long time. I'm happy to know it felt good, but sorry about those hot flashes.

  2. I awoke to a raging hot flash this morning too, flung off my covers and rolled to the cool side of the bed my husband vacated hours before. His pillows were the coolest of all, and I enjoyed my heat transfer to them very much!
Damn the hot flashes, they wear me out. I'm going to start keeping a spare pillow by the window now, thanks for the suggestion. This too shall pass, I hope, but I've been flashing for more than 5 years and see no end in sight. Sigh. The burdens we carry.

  3. What I love about this entry is that it speaks to how unexpected and accidental some of life's truly magnificent moments can be, if you're just open to having them.
We men are biologically incapable of "getting" alot of things from the inside. But I'm a firm believer in the power of imagination. I don't need to experience a hot flash to imagine one, and that's all that's required for empathy.
As for intantanteous, overwhelming, mindblowing RELIEF, it doesn't get any more intense than getting released from prison. (At least when you have someone who loves you to pick you up.)

  5. I love a cool pillow. Every night, Owen asks me for a wet washcloth to lay on while he sleeps. That little boy creates so much body heat that I almost wonder if he's going through four-year-old-boy-onset-menopause.

  7. Angie M- I hope you don't ever get them. Some women do not.

Mel- Me for ten years now. I don't see much of a decrease, either. Sometimes it drives me mad. It's not so bad in the winter but I dread them in the summer's heat.

Ms. Fleur- And titter to you!

Mark- I thank my lucky stars I don't know what that feels like. Lord knows I've broken a law or two. I bet it was a wonderful feeling to get out, to be greeted by a friend.
I did pass a kidney stone once. That was pretty awesome relief. I'm not kidding either.

    Sally- Great idea.

    Nancy C- He's a baby dynamo.

    Magnum- How hot?

    Elizabeth- Oh yes you can.

  8. That made me think of applying creme for a vaginal infection (I used to wear a lot of tight trousers). That's how I imagine you felt anyway. TMI perhaps.

  9. The heat had just finished spreading across my back, from shoulder to shoulder, as I read this. The extra pillow is going right by the window sill tonight....under the fullish moon!

  11. Mwa- Hmmmm. Maybe. And I think we have all experienced the relief of the vaginal cream so no, not TMI.

Maggie May- No, actually, I wish I were more minxish and did hear that more often. But you gave me a giggle and I love that.

  12. Those night sweats...thats what I get ...twice a night. Sometimes three times...and the I flip my pillow to find the cool side, thow off the sheets, blanket and comforter till my body is cool as can be...at least I know someone else is feeling it...hahaha! My husband thinks I should check my temp..he thinks it must rise...we laugh about it and are questioning the menopausal woman...of course I am a new member as of November...the full year past! I am still wondering about what I am now...who I am...etc..

Thank you for the post Ms. Moon!
