Peace On A Saturday

I see that Blogger is allowing me to post pictures again. That picture was from yesterday. Little guy on the screen, being still and waiting for unwary insects to come his way. I've lived around these anoles my entire life and I've never gotten tired of seeing them. They're like small visitors from another realm who are here to observe our ways and eat our bugs. They are quite beautiful.

I haven't taken any pictures at all today. It's rained without ceasing, sometimes coming down so hard that we couldn't see fifty feet into the yard, sometimes just a steady drumbeat of good, solid drops. Mr. Moon is worried to death about his garage which has some egregious leaks in the roof. He's called three roofers and not one has returned his call. He's frustrated.

I had to go to town to pick up a prescription and while I was at it, I decided to take May and Michael and Hank and Rachel their Christmas gifts and some eggs. It wasn't raining too hard when I left here but by the time I'd gotten five miles down the road it was pouring and the roads were well on their way to flooding and I decided to just get to Publix where my medication was, grab it, and get home. I informed the interested parties of this decision but when I got out of Publix the rain had slowed down considerably and I managed to get the goods delivered and I am vastly relieved. That has been weighing on my mind heavily since before Christmas.

Last night's peas and greens were terrific and the cornbread seemed especially tasty too. The greens may have been the best I've ever made and I attribute that to adding a can of stewed tomatoes which of course have sugar in them and somehow the sweetness and the green-ness and the onions and the vinegar and the bacon all came together in perfect harmony. Just so good. We watched the seventh episode of Bridgerton and we are now firmly invested and of course there are only eight episodes so that's going to be sad.
"But, but, but..." We all sputter when this happens, don't we? Will there be a Season two? We shall see. Of course by the time that happens I will have forgotten who everyone is and what their standings in the families and world in general are.
So it goes.

And the rest of the day has been cuddly and sweet and the air is cool and I am going to make risotto with spinach and sun dried tomatoes and lots of onions. And to top it all off, the Jefferson County health department called and we are to be at the facility at nine a.m. on Thursday morning for our first dose of the vaccine.
I am very happy about this, of course, but my happiness will not be nearly complete until the rest of my family can get it. Hell- until the whole world can get it! I have to tell you that this is probably the first time in my life that I have felt that I have undeserved privilege for being OLD! Let's just add it to the list of all the other ways I have benefited from my privileges. Somehow being old doesn't feel quite as undeserved as the rest, though, to be honest, it's not like I've done that much to stay alive except not to die.
So far. And now at least I probably won't die from Covid.

All right. The rain is still coming down. Bless it as it soaks through the earth and filters down into the aquifer which feeds our beautiful springs and rivers and lakes and wells which sustain us in all ways.

May you never thirst.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I downloaded a sample of Julia Quinn's book that this first season of Bridgerton is based on but I can't quite bring myself to pay $8 for the rest of it! How silly is that? :) I'm pretty sure the series will be renewed and I think the next season will be about the oldest son, Anthony. Ah, well. We love our guilty pleasures! And the Duke of Hastings they picked is HOT. :)

I went to make cornbread yesterday and realized I was out of cornmeal! Our greens and black eyed peas just weren't the same without fried cornbread but they were good. Tonight I'm making bacon cheeseburgers and oven fries for our supper, because why the heck not?

Have a good night, Ms. Moon!

  3. How wonderful to have the vaccine already! No hope of that here for me till maybe March at best. And I'm in the next tier, because OOOOOld. But first the healthcare workers and the longterm care residents. Seems to be a slow process. I'm glad they're first, though, because I can control my risk so much better than any of them.

  4. I'm a nurse working with immunocompromised patients and absolutely no idea when we'll get the vaccine. Our government is mess right now. Ideologues with little in the way of practical experience doing anything useful.

I'm glad you're getting it. Let me know how you feel afterwards.

  5. I am glad that you are getting the glorious life saving injection of who knows what but take it and hope that it works well. Up here the vaccine has not been delivered, Washington state is on the orange shit list so, it could be next autumn before we get jabbed...Anyway, no hurry for me or for Dennis, we do not go anywhere and we see no one.

  6. I heard such a shocking thing. We have a nursing home that has been hard hit. Out of 180 patients, only 6 have NOT tested positive for covid. These numbers make me sick. I'm glad that you are getting your vaccine.

  7. I am so happy that you two are getting the vaccine! Congratulations to Florida for getting it together to make this happen. It seems like some states didn't think ahead to how they would organize the process of giving the injections and things are just not happening the way they had hoped. Hopefully they will get it worked out. I am so thankful we have vaccines now at least.

  8. Your vaccine appt is wonderful news. My 76 y.o. mom is in FL for the winter and the hope is she gets her first vaccine next week too. I am surprised at how emotional is is, the relief of it.

  9. Well, yay for you and Mr Moon. just like that! I'm amazed you got such an early appointment. my concern now is that there will be enough vaccines available to get our second doses on time. we've had cold but pretty days after our 7" of rain. today I'm trying my hand at plumbing. grrr.

  10. Excellent! I'm so glad you're this close to getting vaccinated! I suppose we should try this "Bridgerton" show since everyone is talking about it. I don't even know the first thing about the plot, except that there's sex. Glad you got those gifts delivered!

  11. I finished Bridgerton in two days! I am sure there will be a season 2. The series of books on which it is based count eight installments, one book for each of the Bridgerton children. What a lovely confection of beautiful people and lush costumes that was. My only quibble is they needed to get the main character, Daphne, a better wig. Otherwise, the whole thing went down quite easily for me, pure escapism, no deep thinking required.

  12. Florida is one of only four states that prioritized the vaccine for over 65s over essential workers. Glad you are able to avail yourself of it. As someone who has had several anaphylactic episodes (no fun), I am not exactly anxious to get it (even with my epipen in hand), but frankly, vaccine access for 70 year olds in my state won't happen anytime soon anyway, so not something I have to think about yet.

  13. I was actually supposed to have the vaccine yesterday but got an email saying they had made a mistake and needed to do the medical and essentials first, not the over 65s. So my appointment was canceled which makes sense so I will wait (probably until April they said). I live in a suburb of Chicago so LOTS of people who need the vaccine. Good luck with yours! Let us all know how it goes.

  14. I'm glad you're going to get your vaccine. Let's hope they can get moving quickly on everybody else so we can be done with this damn virus!

  16. I'm so frickin glad about Bridgerton! I have to admit, I loved it sooo much it was making me sad that you couldn't enjoy it. So hurrah! The good news is it's been wildly popular and it's from an EIGHT BOOK SERIES, so we'll be getting more. EAch one focuses on a different Bridgerton though, so presumably there'll be less of RegéJean Page, tragically, but he won't be totally gone.
How do I know this? I googled it like a rabid fan in between watching the intense bits again :)
