Happy Day

Mr. Moon came home from the dump today with the most precious little Fiesta Ware pitcher you've ever seen.

Egg for scale.

It looks like a sample size or maybe part of a kid's tea set but whatever it is, I'm delighted. Then he told me that there was a whole bunch more Fiesta Ware along with some nice china and did I want to go look at it? Well, of course I did and when we got there we realized that there were some really, really fine  things that someone had left on the side of the dumpster, that cake plate above being one of them. Also- pretty cloth napkins, some small martini glasses, a lot of brandy snifters, an electric knife sharpener in the box never used, some cute mugs and, some other stuff. All of it clean, good quality, and obviously barely used. Either someone died or someone is just sick of the stuff they own but either way, I brought home the cake plate, some napkins, the martini glasses, a cow mug and a pig mug, and I guess that's all. Mr. Moon had to have the knife sharpener, of course.

Grandchildren mugs.

The other big news of the day is that these boys are spending the night. I so wish I could figure out how to post the video that Jessie took when she asked them if they wanted to stay with us tonight. But I can't. It is very, very loud. Bottom line- they did.

Right now they're with Boppy on a walk down to the post office. Well, Boppy's walking and hauling them in the garden cart. Big fun.

And I need to go make pizza for our supper. So this is short and sweet.

The rain has cleared, the sky turned blue, it is cooler and we have silly, silly boys to play with.

What a lucky day!

Love...Ms. Moon

    1. It was pretty nice, although there were some wild boys for a little while. But then they settled down.

  3. WOWIE score at the dump! It is against the law up here to remove anything that has been dumped but it was not always like that, Dennis got a kettle from the dump about 57 years ago, we have used it every day for that long! Holy cow, your haul - better than shopping. Glad the littles are there, pancakes in the morning!

    1. Well, there's a sign that says you can't remove anything but no one pays any attention to that. We set things aside on purpose for people to take if they want. Isn't it funny that someone threw away a kettle that you have used for fifty-seven years?
There were indeed pancakes in the morning!

  4. I remember when I used to leave my girls with my parents for the weekend. That was win-win-win. Which hadn't even been invented then. That pitcher is a little bit.

    1. It's a tiny thing. Perhaps it was a cream pitcher? No. I've looked it up. It's a "mini disk" pitcher. What is that? I do not know but they are very collectable. Hmmm...

  5. What a great find at your dump. In UK it is not allowed to remove anything from a recycling centre. Most things like your find would normally be taken to a charity shop anyway, though as they are all closed at the moment there is probably a lot of good stuff going to waste! Lucky you getting those boys for the night. I can't even see my grands outside. ( only 2 people allowed to meet outside and certainly not allowed in the house )

    1. Yeah. I feel like someone just didn't have it in them to go to a place to donate these things.
I am so sorry you can't see your grands. That must be so, so hard. Almost unbearable.

  6. Grandchildren mugs? That's Boppy Mug on the right an Mer Mug on the left. As for that little jug - delightful design. Who needs shops?

    1. Well, Levon liked the pig mug and August liked the cow mug and they were quite happy to drink their juice from them.
Isn't that jug darling? I've actually got a pink one just like it only it's full-sized.

  8. WOW! Excellent finds! I love those mugs, and that cake plate is terrific. I just do not understand why people throw things like this away. Hello? Goodwill? (At least they put it to the side of the dumpster and not IN the dumpster.)

    1. There's got to be a story there. I mean, the things were even padded to prevent breakage and some of them were in beautiful clean heavy-duty canvas bags. I don't know what happened but I was happy to benefit from the situation.

  9. I have that same cake plate. You can turn it upside down and it makes a fruit bowl. Just put the ball on top of the cake plate in the hollowed out spot on the base.

    1. I've got a cake plate like it and never knew that about the fruit-bowl thing. And it would make a lovely truffle bowl, too! Thank you!

  10. What a great dump find! Maybe someone's clearing a house after a death. Looks like a lot of breakables were dumped. Probably easier than many trips to the thriftie, if they're even accepting donations, maybe not.
I love the little fiesta piece. Probably just as well I wasn't around, since I'm trying to empty my house, and the temptations would have overcome me.

    1. I suspect the death situation too although who knows? And as I said to Steve, some of the breakables were padded to keep them safe. I just have no idea what the deal was. I took less than I really wanted because of the whole too-much-stuff thing. I still had a horrible dream this morning about trying to clear things out of a house. Just completely overwhelming.

I didn't have to take a nap but it was definitely a slow day for me.

  15. what great finds! if the napkins were cotton I'd have snatched them up. cotton napkins are something I always look for at estate sales and very rarely find. linen, I can find fancy linen sometimes but they just don't absorb well. I guess people around here only use cloth napkins for fancy meals and paper towels all the rest of the time. either that or the family takes them.
