It Is The Season Of Purple And Yellow Flowers

I made myself take a rather short, slow walk this morning and I am glad I did. I saw so many beautiful things. This wild turkey hen being one of them.

Not a great shot but I love how the sun shines through her wattle. She was seemingly not scared of me at all and stood stock-still in the middle of the road until I got quite close at which point she slowly made her way to the other side. I sent this picture to Mr. Moon and the following text thread occurred:

This is all a joke based on how I may have, at one point or another, pointed out a soaring bird and said, "Look! A hawk!" when in fact, the bird in question was a buzzard. My identification abilities are sometimes lacking but Mr. Moon has indeed assured me that yes, I took a picture of a female wild turkey today. And by the way- the Ivory Billed Woodpecker is most likely extinct which is also part of the joke.
But not for the Ivory Billed Woodpecker.
Sigh.

I also saw a doe and her fawn, leaping across the road as silent as a prayer.

The wildflowers and butterflies are just wonderful this year. Here are few of the flowers I stopped to take pictures of.

Does this look like a fairy bouquet of orchids?

The only one I know the name of is the last one and I have posted pictures of its kinfolk before. It is bee balm, or horsemint, depending on who you ask. Both names are charming. From a distance of ten feet, you would never know how incredibly complex and gorgeous that flower is.

The baking heat continues. It rained for just a few minutes this afternoon which only led to a sauna-like feeling when it had quit. Steamy, sultry, and actually quite unbearable. The WTF Forecast app on my phone says it is "Swamp Ass Level 10."
I cannot disagree.

Which leads me to a comment that Peace Thyme left on yesterday's post about me wanting to go on vacation where it's even hotter and more humid than it is here.
I can only offer this as explanation.

Can you see all of the colors of that water? From the lightest aquamarine to actual purple. And that picture was taken from the hotel where we are booked now and will be staying. It was hard to go ahead and pull that trigger but I just could not find a place I'd rather stay, not to mention that most places on the water are already booked for December. There are some places available in a huge resort/condo area which is gated and has many pools and you can rent a jet ski and the condos themselves look just like any condo you could rent in Panama City Beach and that is not what I want. Not at all.
I would gladly pay extra for no jet skis which I consider to be the devil's own aqua transportation device.

I started on August's dress today. Just saying that makes me giggle. I should be able to finish it up tomorrow if something does not arise which requires my attention. Here's what the fabric looks like.

Quite masculine, don't you think?
Foxes on bikes. And trees. Or fancy arrows. Who knows?
Foxes are hot right now and I know that August likes them.

One more picture.

Liberace's tail feathers.
Isn't their symmetry lovely? He is a big rooster, y'all. I saw him today chasing tiny Miss Violet and she ran like the wind. He appeared not to have enough interest to chase after her. It's odd how neither he nor Ringo seemed to have the overwhelming lust that Elvis and Mick had.
Maybe it's just too hot for them to really give a damn.

Yeah. That's probably it.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Less lusty roosters makes for a more peaceful life, hopefully?

I love the fox material. Definitely trees. Gorgeous!

    1. I am SO grateful these roosters aren't constantly threatening each other or over-sexing the hens. So far they are good buddies and protect their flock well. Polygamy AND polyandry.

  2. It has been brutally hot. No hurricanes here yet so I won’t complain. The fox fabric is adorable! Can’t wait to see August in his dress. He’s going to be thrilled!

    1. I think August IS going to love this dress.
Knock wood on the hurricane thing.

  3. Going on a jet ski sounds horribly, bloody, mother-fucking awful. Hate.

Can’t wait to see the new dress. Yay

    1. Yeah, on the jet ski. They're right up there with airboats in my opinion.
There will be pictures of the dress!

  4. August is going to have an amazing first dress. That picture of Liberace is beautiful. Your bird sighting error reminds me of my families ongoing teasing of me because one time I thought I saw Mars but it was really an airplane. So "Mars is coming in for a landing" gets said every so often. I'm surrounded by comedians.

    1. "...surrounded by comedians."
      Me too!
But that is pretty funny about Mars. I've probably done the same thing.

  5. I hate jet skis, they make so much noise. The dress, can't wait to see it and love the fabric.

The snow has melted and we're back to fall again which is nice. The leaves are turning and falling, the geese are gathering and the days are getting shorter.

I can see why you want to visit Cozumel. It's beyond beautiful.

    1. Glad your snow melted! I really can't even imagine. I bet the leaves are turning and falling if the temperatures have gotten that low. Our pecan leaves are turning and falling. We do actually have trees that do that here.
Cozumel IS beyond beautiful and the people there are so incredible. The Maya are alive and well.

  6. The hotel I stayed at on Cozumel was Coral Princess Golf & Dive Resort - right on the water and honestly the BEST bed I have ever slept on, anywhere in Mexico - I always find the beds in Mexico to be rock hard :D

That looks like a fabulous place to stay! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures!

    1. We stayed right next door to the Coral Princess one year in a building that looked like it had been bombed (hurricane damage) but was really, really beautiful inside. We had a gorgeous little condo studio there. But once again- the Coral Princess is a bit too fancy for my taste. I agree with you about the beds in Mexico. They are notoriously horrible. Maybe we should all just sleep in hammocks when we're there!

  7. Why is it so hard to pull the trigger on booking vacations? I find that, too. My husband and I have decided to spend a week in Negril, Jamaica in January after I deliver my manuscript. I better get on booking that! I love the material you chose for August's dress. What style will it be?

    1. I guess we just want to make sure that we're going to get the best place to stay for the best price and that we'll be perfectly and utterly happy on our vacations. Maybe? And it's funny- we've stayed so many different places in Cozumel over the years and we've always had a good time. Different, but good. One place we used to stay was absolutely perfect in all ways but then it turned into an all-inclusive and I will not be doing that. Too many wonderful places to eat on the island!
I'm so glad you and your husband are going to Negril. I have never been to Jamaica but have a feeling that if I did I'd never want to leave.
August's dress is going to be very simple with button straps on the shoulders. It's not easy to find a manly dress pattern for a small boy so I'm using one of Maggie's old ones.

    2. I really love the fabric and I'm excited to see him in it. I have a few friends who would love a dress in that foxy pattern. But I do want to point out - maybe he doesn't want a masculineish dress. Maybe he wants one because he thinks they are pretty and he likes that?

  9. that top flower is a clover I think, second one down is mistflower or ageratum, third down is water primrose.

August is going to look very manly in his dress.

and that water is gorgeous. what's the name of the place you are staying?

    1. Ellen, you always know the plants! Thank you!
The place we're staying is called The Blue Angel. The woman who owns it moved to Cozumel from Canada, I think, although originally (again, I think) she is from somewhere in Europe. She is a hardworking, smart woman and she does a lot of community service work via her businesses. She owns a beach club a little ways down the road. She seems to treat her employees well and respectfully. it's a small, older place but the restaurant is great and free breakfast comes with the room and you can order anything off the menu. They have live music there most nights but nothing too loud or too late. It's a cozy and friendly place. The rooms are pretty bare-bones when it comes to decor but are very comfortable and very clean and I love them.

  10. That is the most beautiful rooster....looks like he knows it, too. Have a ocean's worth of fun and romance on your trip.

I am pretty good at naming flowers but the different kinds of trees get me every time. And, we have a s&%t load of trees in Colorado!

    1. You do have a lot of trees in Colorado but there weren't that many in Denver. Not like here. I used to go to the botanical gardens for a little feeling of home! Colorado is beautiful. It really is.

  11. So, weirdly, I can't see any of your photos -- something about the internet filter at work, I think -- so I can't comment on those. But I have no doubt those are beautiful flowers and the fabric for August's dress is rockin! Who doesn't love foxes?!

I am with you all the way on Jet Skis. I think they should be illegal. Noise pollution, especially for all the marine critters who -- we are learning -- are more sensitive to noise than we ever thought.

    1. Funny if they would filter pictures of flowers and a wild turkey. Ha!
Jet skis...if you and I were in charge of the world, they'd be gone, Steve!
