Motivation Medication

Today's title is brought to you by Lis. I talked to her on the phone today and she told me that if she sent me pictures of things in her house that needed attending to, I would get in my car and rush to her house with medication. That she has no motivation.
"Honey, I don't think they have medication for that," I said. "But I love the sound of it. Motivation medication."
If they did make it, I would surely take it.
I told Lis that I hadn't even made the bed yet. It was about 12:30. But I had, I told her, gotten the silicone glue off of twelve tiny kiln-fired pots. Which took me at least 45 minutes. You can see them above.
The story behind that is a long one but it involves a clock that was gifted to us from Mr. Moon's sister and each one of those tiny precious pots was a number on the clock. The clock's works have long since quit, uh, working, but I did not want to throw away those little works of art. They all had glue on them, of course, and with care and some tool that I do not know the name of that I found in Mr. Moon's stuff, I got them all stripped of the glue. Aren't they darling?
So that's what I was motivated to do today.

I've been trying to stay off my foot which really does feel better. Staying off one's foot is not easy, though. Hank and Rachel came out for a little visit and they saw me limp and Rachel asked how my foot was and I told her that it was fine, didn't hurt at all until I put pressure on it. They both burst into laughter because at that moment I was standing on it which of course does tend to put pressure on a foot.

It was so nice to see them. Rachel is working so hard in her Master's Degree program for social work. And Hank is doing online trivia so if you have a need for any sort of a trivia event, let me know. He can specialize it for your needs. Art, science, music, Shakespeare, crazy news events, politics, queer-specific...anything you want. Hank is the Trivia Master.
Today we mostly talked about stuff we've been watching on the TeeVee, although no one calls it TV anymore, I guess. They've been watching old seasons of Survivor. They kept trying to come up with something that Glen and I can watch and enjoy together. We're having a hard time with that. This is a man who will happily watch drag racing for hours, loves shows like the one where a bunch of people make knives, and anything involving the restoration of old cars. I, meanwhile, love Call The Midwife, reruns of The Office, the occasional trashy reality show, some crime documentaries, almost all documentaries about cults, and other random things. If our watching preferences was a Venn Diagram, there really would not be that middle part where things overlap.
We did love Deadwood. Both of us. Passionately. And we've watched other things together and enjoyed them but it generally settles into a situation where we watch something that neither of us really hates which is not an optimal situation.
Oh well. Talk about your first-world problems.

I've got a pot of gumbo on the stove, barely simmering. I've got a loaf of sourdough ready to go into the oven. I've got twelve little jugs cleaned of glue.
I did eventually make the bed.
We haven't seen the sun in days and I'm back to wearing the Goodwill cashmere. The duck is still in use on the bed. And yet- the sugar snap peas have leapt from the ground and everything is making new green.

In other words, it's March here in North Florida in Year Two of the Pandemic in my 67th year. Everything is just about as fine as it can be considering the circumstances. May it be for you as well.

Love...Ms. Moon

I have not watched Justified but a lot of people have told me I should. I'll see if we have access.

  2. those tiny pots are too cute! I trust some may become vases to hold tiny violets? Glad foot is a bit better...and Hank and Rachel are always cheering! Yes...TV....hubby has been watching first season of Snow Piercer.....very weird. I watch cooking shows if I'm home alone....just because...... we meet in the middle at basketball or golf...... or old movies on the Turner Classic movie channel.

    1. Basketball or golf? You are a nice wife. I'd rather watch drag racing, I think, and I don't want to watch drag racing at all. Okay, basketball isn't that bad.
Those pots are just about too small for violets!

  5. If I had those wonderful little pots, and had to move somewhere smaller, they might come with me.

  6. My mother's generation had motivation meds- speed sold as "vitamins", her mother's generation had Motivation meds- cocaine. So , yes it does exist and i would not say no to either if it got the dishes done.
Your little pottery is adorable, great save! Forty five minutes well spent. I can imagine them on your sill with tiny posies in them. very sweet!

    1. Oh yes. The days when you could even buy a bendrine inhaler OTC. My mother used one of those for years.
The little pots are simply too tiny for most flowers. I'll be on the lookout for the barely-visible-to-the-eye blooms.

  8. Tee Vee doesn't exist in my house so I cannot make recommendations. I do love those wee pots though and I'm glad your foot is somewhat better.

  9. I love those little pots. Mr Moon could make you a display case for the wall ( I had " printers'drawers" in mind)
Re TV watching.....we spend a lot of time in 2 different rooms watching different programmes in the evening..it suits us both to watch what we want to!

    1. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do with the pots. They're so small that you'd have to walk right up next to them to actually see them.
We used to have two TV's but the one in the bedroom never got turned on. I'd just as soon read.

  10. Sorry to hear that your foot is still hurting. As my late mother would often say, "It's no fun getting old Neil!" I guess that we are both heading in that direction now. It is important to cherish pain free times when one's body does it customary jobs without complaint.

  12. One doesn't realize how much we take functioning body parts for granted until we lose their use or they cause so much pain they can't be ignored. Foot pain falls in that category and it is difficult to stay off unless/until one simply can't stand on it anymore. Reminds one of how very difficult life is for those who are permanently physically disabled.

    1. Indeed, Mary! We do become more empathetic as we age and discover what it's like to be in pain or not have use of things we always took for granted.

  14. Those tiny pots are adorable - cleaning them up was motivation well spent!

  15. I also have trouble getting motivated to do anything most days. Retirement has made me very lazy.
Sorry about the foot still bothering you - maybe you need more cushion or support in your shoes?!
I covet those little pots now (along with that little blue pitcher)! :)

    1. Well, my foot will be okay. But yes, it probably wouldn't hurt to get some insoles.
My little pots are indeed covetable.

  16. Those pots look like they will be ideal windowsill ornaments.

I know what you mean about the TV watching. Dave and I sometimes find things we both like, but I'm not nearly as choosy as he is. A lot of shows I like that he doesn't like much or at all ("The Wire," "The Expanse" and "Snowpiercer" come to mind). He, meanwhile, will watch endless reruns of '90s-era "Star Trek" iterations, and after a while I DO get sick of those. We have both gotten into "The Walking Dead," but it's bloody and definitely not for everyone.

    1. They're almost too small for a window sill. I really don't know what I'm going to do with them.
Lily LOVED the Walking Dead. So much. But I just don't think it's for me.

I have to read back and find out about what happened to your foot, I'm behind!

    2. My son often gets hell pushpin when exercising. He finds taping it up a great rekief. Lots of YouTube videos show you how, very simple.
Could you make a little mobile with the jugs? Or stick those tiny strong magnets to them and put them on the fridge?

    3. My god, the typos. Why can't I see them at the time? Hell pushpin = heel pain. For heaven's sake!

  18. I'm having such trouble getting motivated that I totally forgot today was/is Thursday until it was too late to tune in to my streaming yoga group. Gardening has been my go to motivator, but it is a sunny day (again) here in northern CA and I am yet to get into the yard at 1 pm. Geesh!

I am another Call the Midwives fan for its soothing qualities. I watch it through all the seasons from time to time. I second the Repair Shop on Netflix recommendation for you and the Mr. It has tinkering, soothing and family history qualities that I think you two will like. Give it a try - https://www.netflix.com/watch/81224128?trackId=13752289&tctx=0%2C0%2Ca98adcd3970a56b3b0d00f949b32aaa654211ed7%3Aa8e37a361aeb5ffaef3438bfc0e4e9ddb1ce6854%2Ca98adcd3970a56b3b0d00f949b32aaa654211ed7%3Aa8e37a361aeb5ffaef3438bfc0e4e9ddb1ce6854%2Cunknown%2C

I still love Call the Midwives but I don't think it's quite as good as it used to be which is typical for a long-running series. Eventually, they all run out of steam. Still better than a lot of stuff available, though.
Thanks for stopping in, dear N2.
