'Night, John-Boy

Betty got up on the roost before Sam. Here he comes to take his place. I love how Miss Dolly and Elvis are watching the action.

And then yep! He's pecking her. But MISS BETTY STANDS HER GROUND! She may be trying to hide under Mabel, but she's not leaving that roost.

And Sam accepts her. I know you can hardly see it but there she is, squished between Sam and Mabel.

Close-up butt shot. See little Miss Betty? There she is. Warm and snug.

Just like me.
You too, I hope.

  1. I would never think that a picture of a chicken's butt would be cute, but it is. Amazing.

  3. Girl Fires- Chicken butts are amazingly beautiful. To me, at least.

Danielle- Okay. I'll take some grape pictures soon. The pumpkin god is long gone. They ate him. They ate their god. Which is sort of like...Christianity and communion?

  5. Ha! Good one on the Christianity/communion... Growing up Catholic, that always sort of creeped me out.

Chicken butts. You are growing sillier by the day! Good for you.

  6. You know, I admit that I haven't quite "gotten" the chicken thing, but somehow I do, now, with this post. They look beautiful and healthy and shiny. I get it (and it's not their butts).

Love you and now, your chickens.

  7. Nancy- Well, we agoraphobics like to think so.

Ms. Fleur- The butts are the best.

  9. Hello darling,

Just got home from Hell and B.Loved is out checking the mail. I am going to bed now so I am going to answer when my soul is back inside my body.

How I miss my chickens! particularly the little Araucanas with their fluffy tails and their jewel eggs. Some day, who knows? But they deserve better than a city lot to live and thrive, and be happy as yours.

Love to you darling and I will find out what happened to that package.

word verification is waped although I think it meas wiped...sigh

  13. I was reading your last post with tired eyes and when you wrote "Chicken Wiccan" I read it quickly as "Chicken Webcam." And now that you've shown us the fascinating world of the chicken coop, I really, really want you to do that! I would watch it. Really!

I love that Miss Betty stood up for herself.

  14. Swallowtail- I think I have a problem.

Ms. Fleur- Well, they were standing with their butts out. What could I do?
Besides, on a living chicken, the tailfeathers are the prettiest.

Grasshopper- Oh hell no! Chicken webcam? Ha! I'm sure someone is doing it but it's not going to be me. That would be like...technology and shit.

  20. Ms. Moon every time my dad made chicken soup from one of his chickens he always claimed the chicken butt for himself. Said it was the tastiest part of the chicken. I think he just enjoyed grossing us out. I realy do! Thanks for the memory!!
