You Just Might Find, You Get What You Need

I woke up this morning rather sad and tried to get some comfort by petting Maurice who was sleeping mashed right up against me and that did not go well and I yelled at her because she grabbed me with her talons and bit me with her teeth and because that alerted Mr. Moon to the fact that I was awake, he came and cuddled me for a little while.
"I think I'll just stay in bed today," I said.
"Okay," he said. "I will too."

Of course we didn't. We got up and he got busy with more packing. He is a bit depressed that the forecast for Canada is going to be approximately what it is here for the next week or so. I mean, if you're going to drive all the way to Canada from Florida, you want to at least be able to wear a jacket. Am I right?

I hung around and read stuff online and then I came across the video you see above which is from last night's Stones concert in Charlotte, North Carolina which made me first smile and then laugh and then cry. Those old boys! They are obviously thrilled to be back onstage, doing what they do better than anyone else in the world. Doing what they, in fact, invented.
When Keith hits the chords for Jumping Jack Flash without even looking at his guitar, grinning like the happiest man on earth, I just lost it.
The Charlotte Observer ran a great review of the show and you can read it here if you have any interest.
Here's my favorite part:

And all Jagger had to do this time was spend the better part of 2 hours and 12 minutes running and skipping and jumping and hopping and dancing and strutting and waving his arms and clapping and punching the air, while belting out some of the most famous songs in the history of rock and roll music.

This is actually a pretty difficult thing to wrap my head around.

I mean, my dad is 78, and although he still takes a long walk every morning, trying to pull off moves like Jagger for 2 minutes and 12 seconds could very well give him a heart attack.

On top of that, my most recent experiences involving watching rockers in their senior years headline large venues include a November 2019 Spectrum Center show during which a then-72-year-old Elton John barely got up from his piano except to take a bow at the end; and a September 2019 Spectrum Center show during which a then-68-year-old Phil Collins, weakened by a string of physical ailments, crashed to the floor mid-set after tipping over in his chair.

I know. I KNOW. That's not funny but it sort of is.

So after I watched the video and read the review, I felt better and less old and creaky and damaged and done-in and decided to get off my ass and drive into town and do a quick Costco and Publix shopping which I did. I was so anxious, driving in, that I thought perhaps I should turn around and go home. But once I got going, everything worked out well and I just got what I needed and came home and put everything away and it's Friday so I've made up the bed clean again and it's been almost a normal day except for the fact that my husband has had camo-wear spread out over half the house, getting everything ready to go.
I'm glad I went to town because I feel more normal now and much less of an invalid which is exactly how I need to feel on the eve of my husband leaving. Neither one of us needs for me to be all pathetic and sad. And I feel pretty fine. If things go as they have been, I won't be good for anything tomorrow but that's okay. There's nothing I need to do. Not really.

I'm sorry I haven't been taking any pictures but I guess I've been a little too inwardly self-focused the past few days. I'll try to do better tomorrow.

Well, speaking of pictures, here's one that I did not take.

That's Mick on Wednesday night, having a beer by himself at what is being referred to in all the media as a "dive bar" named the Thirsty Beaver Saloon. Supposedly no one in the bar recognized him which could possibly happen. I do not think that the bar had any pre-warning that Sir Mick was going to show up. The bar owner says, "Absolutely not. He was in here and then he was gone."
Whatever. It's a very cool photo.

I have no tidy ending tonight so I'll just say as I do every week- Happy Friday, y'all.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. It's all right, Ms. Mary Moon, in fact it's a gas! It is nice to see them having so much fun and yes, they have a LOT of energy for their age! I couldn't keep up but maybe I would try if I had the chance...!! :)
I went to the hospital yesterday with terrible stomach pains that lasted for over a day and I thought, Oh no, it's appendicitis like Mary Moon! But I was lucky - just severe acid indigestion and they gave me a pain killer that got me really sick!
But I got to come home today and I feel pretty good, just tired!
Thanks for the fun post! You will miss Mr. Moon and that is nice!

    1. Severe acid indigestion is no joke at all! People often mistake it for a heart attack. But I'm sort of glad for you that it wasn't your appendix. How weird that would have been!
Rest up. Your body went through a lot.

And Mr. Moon will only really be gone about 11 or 12 days which is STILL a lot. I'm feeling good.

  3. But they would have recognized Keith and that yellow hat. What a magnificent grin!

  4. Thank you for posting. Every blog post is a gift from the writer, and we need to remember that. No need to worry about pix. showing up with great writing is plenty.

  5. Hi Mary, hope you are continuing to make good progress after your surgery. Thank you for posting so frequently during what must have been a difficult week for you, I agree with Boud that every blog post is a gift from the writer and you are very, very generous, your writing lightens my days.
You mentioned your Dad is 78, does that make him an extremely young Dad at 13 or 14 years of age when you were born? Was your Mum also so very young? Forgive me if these questions are too intrusive, feel free to ignore if they are inappropriate (certainly, not my intention).
Hope Mr Moon has a great trip and that you have lots of good times with family whilst he's away. Take care, lots of love and good wishes xx

    1. I think that was part of a quotation from a newspaper. The writer referred to their Dad, aged 78.

    2. You're right, of course, thanks for pointing it out. It was very early when I read Mary's post(too quickly,it would seem), I feel very silly now!

    3. Oh, don't feel silly. We all get things a little twisted sometimes. I'm sure you WERE doing the math and not coming up with a believable answer. And by the way- my father has been dead for over thirty years now. And he was not THAT young when he died.

    4. OMG, thank you Blods for bringing that up bc I read it the same way...as something Mary wrote not the writer of the review. It was a little hard to tell who was writing that and I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that Mary's father was still alive and would have been like 11 yrs old when he became her father!! It's clear as day now, so yes, feeling a wee bit dumb over here too! Geezus I'm getting old and foggy!

  6. While I'm not a fan of the Stones I agree - where does Jagger get all his energy from? Maybe he siphoned off mine! But I do think it's nice for him to be able to have a beer incognito. It must be very wearing being constantly in the public eye!

    1. It probably is sort of exhausting not being able to live like a normal human. But you know- these guys have been famous for so long that I'm sure they've figured out ways to manage that. And it would appear that Mick enjoys his ability to go incognito.

  7. I bet all those hipsters around Mick are smacking themselves now, having not realized they were so close to greatness!

  8. I saw that picture on FB and chuckled. he was just some old guy no paid attention to. I wonder how he felt about that. relieved or bummed out. as for the title of this post and the song, that was/is one of my guiding principles.

    1. Yeah. I was wondering too. Seems like as soon as he opened his mouth to order he'd be identifiable.
Such a great song. Keith and Mick have written some amazing songs, haven't they?

  9. Heck, I'm just glad Mick got to enjoy a beer in peace and without anyone doing the celebrity fawning thing all over him. It must get really old, sometimes. Everyone deserves to just be an anonymous person every once in awhile!

    1. I can't even imagine what it must be like to have the public gaze upon one all the time. I hate thinking that people are looking at me for any reason and of course they're mostly not.

  10. Yeah, I don't think most people would recognize Mick because in their mind's eye, he is younger. To be honest he just looks like any old guy who drinks and smokes too much, at least to me:)

I loved that last post you wrote about your hubby. A true love letter. Is he coming to Alberta? It's getting cold here and last night I dreamed of snow. It won't be long now sadly. The trees are beautiful but fall is definitely upon us.

    1. I doubt Mick has had a cigarette in decades. And I hear he only has a bit of wine with meals now and then. He is, however, a seventy-eight year old man who's lived one hell of a life.
Glen's going to Saskatchewan. Some teeny, tiny little place there. I hope he gets at least a little brisk weather.

  11. Jagger walks into a Bar and nobody notices... yeah, saw that picture and think it was Cool that he got that rare moment of Anonymity, which must have felt good. It is amazing when Senior Entertainers still got the Juice for pulling off their Concerts. I saw James Brown not long before he passed away, in his 70's and could still out-dance his Young Backup Singers who were sweating bullets and weren't wearing the high heel Cowboy Boots James was doing all his famous moves in. About the only move he didn't do in his Seventies was go down into the splits and back up again and he still was the reigning Godfather of Soul and put on such an Amazing Concert. I compared it to the one I'd gone to of his in the 1960's and he still had it.

  12. Happy Friday, darling Mary. You helped get me through the preamble to mine.

  13. It's hard to believe what those old rockers can still do, especially given their younger lifestyles. I'd heard about Phil Collins-how sad. I've seen that photo of Mick and wonder who took it since it wasn't a selfie. He was supposedly there alone but someone had to snap the shot. Hmmm.
