It's Been A Good, Long Day

Owen in the bamboo. Lily wanted a picture of him for some contest that required him to be having "fun in the sun." She suggested that if I could get a chicken in the picture he would be a shoo-in to win. Well, I didn't. I'm sorry Lily. I can barely manage to get a good picture of Owen these days, he moves so fast. Let's not even try to get a decent chicken pose in there with him.

But oh- my baby-love boy in the bamboo.

He's not quite a baby anymore, is he? But we spent a lot of time on the porch swing, going back and forth to the rusty squeak of the chains and he got more and more relaxed, sitting beside me with my arm around him and one of his hands on mine. Finally, I took him into my lap and he slumped against me, asleep.
I never want to forget that moment. Never.

Here he is laughing at the chickens next door:

And I got lots of pictures at the Opera House but really, I should ask permission before I post them but I simply must post this one:

The two tallest bartenders in Florida. That's what Jack called them. I think he may be right.
They're just as darling as I thought they'd be.
"All the world's a stage, isn't it?" Colin said to me later on in the night.
"To you," I said, giving him that look. He was misbehaving as is his way.
Which is why we love our Colin.

And now it's time to go to bed with the tallest bartender in Florida.

It's been a very good day.

  1. A good day indeed; I closed my eyes and could feel the rocking of the porch swing and also feel the weight of a sleeping baby...yes. And Mr. Moon and colin are so handsome!

  2. Kori- That was pure sweetness and joy, that baby boy falling asleep on me. Yes.
And aren't those boys cute? Damn.

  3. I'm enamored of those green green bamboo stalks. Wow.
    Owen in the bamboo forest.
    Sounds like a children's book.
He is adorable, as always, and so are those tall tall men.

    Lucky you.
I am in bed with two dogs and a cat, with a bunny underneath the bed.
    Night night MM. Happy weekend.

  5. Me, too -- had the great gift of a baby boy asleep on my chest today and the feel of a new soft cheek against mine. That will hold us for a good long time, no?!

I think the O-boy in the bamboo is a prize winning photo. Chose that one.

    And those handsome bartenders!

A good day all 'round. Have a sweet Sunday. x0 N2

  6. I had to laugh at Colin's expression. He looks about one drink over the line or like a bad stroke victim.I can imagine that he is very funny.

  8. Awe, such cuteness in little boys and big ones!

You DO have a picture of Owen with a chicken... I think actually, it may have been Elvis. He was either sitting on a blanket or in his stroller. It's INCREDIBLE!

xo pf verification word "pstain" No shit!

  9. Oh! Owen's at my second favorite baby age. I love when they're all fat and cuddly but they are starting to cruise around and laugh and say 'momma'.

My first favorite is the first three months. People think I'm crazy but there's nothing better than caring for your brand new child...regardless of the stress and lack of sleep. It's such an unique experience.

  10. Bethany- The dog in our bed was having some sort of asthma problem and that did not bode well for my sleep. I hope your animals were better behaved. Oh! And I am not speaking of Mr. Moon as an animal here! It was Zeke, our smallest dog, our sleeping companion dog.

Danielle- You've reminded me that there is bamboo coming up IN the chicken house and I need to attend to that.
No. You may not move into the chicken coop. You may, however, move into the old barn which is actually closer to the bamboo.

    N2- Aren't we the luckiest?

Syd- Colin is British and yes, he's hysterical.

May- I know! The boy's legs are...sturdy. To say the least.

Ms. Fleur- I remember that picture. Lily wanted a new one.

Erin- I am the same way. A new baby is a gift and a joy. They're delightful when they're older but those new babies are my favorites too.

  11. I love that pic of Owen in the bamboo and I love those chubby little legs of his.

Colin looks like my kind of bartender-he would make sure you got plenty of alcohol in your drink. Hope you and the tallest bartender in FL had sweet dreams.

  13. Missed you, Ms. Moon. You are surrounded by handsome men, aren't you?

P.S. I've always wanted to live in a house with a porch swing.

  14. Mel's Way- You are right about Colin.

Danielle- Warning! The barn has no electricity or running water.
But it's a cool old building.

Angie M- I AM surrounded by very handsome men. Charming ones, too.

  15. What a super day. I hope you never forget the feelings you describe. A good reason to blog I think!

Super sweet picture of Owen and those tall bartenders. All of it looks like a lot of fun.
