Gifted

My moon is definitely in Mermaid right now.

Is that Maggie Mermaid or what?

Last week, Linda Sue alerted me to the fact that there was a package coming, probably today, and to be very careful opening it.
My heart has been aflutter ever since.
On my way to town this morning I stopped at the Post Office to see if this package was in yet and it was. In our little PO, if you have a package that won't fit into your letter box, they put a slip in your box that you give to the postal clerk and they find and bring you your package. This is what happened today. Ms. Keisha, who continues to be so very sweet and so very cheerful, went into the dark recesses of her office and found the box which Linda Sue had promised was coming and handed it to me. We chatted for a moment and she said she hoped I was going to have a nice day and I said that I was as I was going to go eat lunch with two of my daughters and she said, "Well, have fun with your beautiful daughters!" as I left and I don't know why but that "beautiful" in there just made my heart so happy.

Yes. I had lunch with Jessie and Lily today. They could not come to get pedicures on Monday with May and me but they could go together today. I knew they'd been thinking about doing this and I selfishly asked if they would mind if I could join them for lunch afterwards if they were going to do that. And what were they going to say?
"Oh hell no, Mom. We don't want you there."
No. They would not and they did not and graciously said they would be happy for me to come meet them so I did. I stopped at Publix first to get the things I forgot two days ago and then met them at Japanica! for delicious Bento Box lunches. The food there continues to be very good and today's green curry tofu was especially delicious for some reason. It's different every time depending on what sort of vegetables they have.
I have to tell you that my kids can make me laugh like no one else. I'm sure I've only said this about ten thousand times. But they do. They make me feel both old and young at the same time. Not old in a bad way but old in a way that's somehow respectful. Like they never forget I'm their mother but they treat me like a mother whom they definitely do not need to tiptoe around or watch their language with (haha!) or protect from the realities of their lives. In fact, I feel like my relationship with all my kids is the kind of relationship I so wish I had had with my mother and never did. And it is the joy of my life.

Jessie had an appointment with Dr. Zorn (she's joined most of the rest of us in the Dr. Zorn Fan Club) and Lily and I went to The Bad Girls Get Saved By Jesus Thrift Store as an outing. Lauren had dropped Lily off at the pedicure place and I'd promised to take her home so that was nice. We didn't find any furniture we wanted although they had some interesting things including two oak tables for $45 apiece that would be gorgeous if they were refinished. But neither of us needed a new oak table. We both found a few treasures though. Lily mostly in the crafts section where she bought some kits and other fun stuff and I got a sofa pillow-sized pillow of feathers and down that I want to cover with some material I have, a sofa pillow already covered in a print that I like, and two beautiful bowls to add to my collection of mismatched china that I love.

A creamer also came with the bowls and I guess I could put a little succulent in it or something. But I really did want the bowls as I am a complete sucker for bowls and love this pattern. I have some plates that I bought YEARS ago at the same store that have a similar pattern, same company, and still use.
The pillows are in the wash and the china is in the dishwasher and I just feel like it's Christmas around here.

So I have seen all of my children in the last week and I saw Owen today when I took his mama home. "High school still good?" I asked him.
"Yeah, it's going good. It's pretty easy so far."
And he told me to tell his Boppy he loves him and of course I did.

The library was on my way home so I stopped there and all-in-all, I did get things done and now I must make egg rolls. On my trip to Publix on Monday I bought egg roll wrappers and tofu but completely forgot to get the vegetables I needed for them. That situation has been remedied so I need to get wokkin' and rollin'.
Oh my god. Shoot me now. I apologize. That was horrible.

You know what wasn't horrible?
This.

My god I love that man. And I love his wife. I cannot believe that I was born at a time when not only the Beatles and the Rolling Stones got their start, I was here when Barack Obama and Michelle Obama and her mother and their two daughters lived in the White House.
Once again- lucky me.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I think Michelle Obama was the Classiest First Lady ever. Your little Mermaid gift is Fabulous, LOVE it, what a thoughtful Gift! I like mismatched China, Silverware and Chairs. With your Passion for cooking, a nice way to Serve it all is Eye Candy before you even take a first bite. My Dad always said people eat with their Eyes first, he was an accomplished Master Chef and I sure do miss his Meals and presentation.

    1. My silverware does mostly match. I wonder why?
Your dad was right and I wish I was better at presentation but I'm not very good at it. I just serve it up.
I bet you do miss your dad and his meals.

  2. Maggie for sure, just look at that face, that tail!!
Dennis got tired of mismatched china so now we have all white- no argument! Boring, I say.
Our kids are fun and funny and a joy because that is what we cultivated them to be- congratulations good Mom.

    1. I guess that what we eat off of isn't the hill to die on, is it?
I think my kids are just very cool people who aren't afraid of me. Low bar there, but it seems to work.

  3. They are a remarkable couple, aren't they? Things just seemed so much simpler when we had a president who was unruffled and sensible.

  4. Don't you think KH and TW will bring back all the good that we loved with the Obama presidency. That's my hope. I like your new bowl and the floral pattern is great. Your bond with your children is precious.

  5. I love the Obamas as well! Neither of them pulled any punches last night! Both are so eloquent and so loved by so many!
I have that hope with Kamala and Tim! Tonight is Tim Walz, Bill Clinton, and Pete Buttigieg is speaking tonight, too!

    1. The Obamas are not known for mincing words, are they? And each one of them has more intelligence and humanity in their little fingernail clipping than Trump has in his whole being.

    1. I ate my leftover lunch out of one of my bowls today. It made me so happy.
Clinton is an intelligent man and although he has his faults and did not always behave himself in a manner I approve of, I can't help but think he was one of our best presidents ever.

  8. I found "wokkin' and rollin' " to be quite funny and laughed. I also love Barack Obama and his wife Michele. I saw them for a few minutes on the tv news a couple of nights ago, saw shots of the crowds and everybody there just looked so happy.

    1. Everyone DOES look so happy at the convention. I have a friend who's a delegate and all of the pictures he posts on FB show the same thing. Great enthusiasm and big smiles.

  9. Oh how I love the Obamas. Wok and Roll is the name of a restaurant about 15 minutes from here.

    1. Honest confession- there used to be a Wok and Roll restaurant in Tallahassee but to my knowledge I had never before used the phrase "wokkin' and rollin'," and I am a little embarrassed that I did.
How can we not love the Obamas?

  11. As soon as I saw that mermaid and glitter, I knew that Linda Sue must have sent that to you. She has such a talent for making those sparkling creations!
I've been watching the speeches on YouTube as I just can't stay up that late and the Obamas are just so fabulous. Doug Emhoff's was terrific, too.
It's so great to be able to laugh with one's grown children. Best thing ever!

    1. Her work is absolutely recognizable as hers, isn't it?
I like the (hopefully) future First Husband a lot myself. He seems like a fine and well-adjusted guy.
Laughing with our grown children makes the fact that they grow up worth it.

  12. I love the mermaid and the new dishes. And yes, I feel the same about the Obamas as you do. I'm also glad your relationship with Ms. Keisha survived pamphlet-gate.
