The pinecone lilies are sending up their cones which will be turning red soon. Scarlet red. Cardinal red. Red, red. And hopefully, the firespike too, will begin to flower its red blossoms. It seems mighty late to me this year.
Mr. Moon and I had our Sunday brunch this morning. This is such a routine by now. I make biscuits and bacon and some sort of potatoes or grits along with eggs. We eat out on the porch if it's not already roasting outside and Jack comes and stares at us with his nose twitching. Poor guy. I am just not going to let him eat human food because it only leads to begging and often, vomiting. Jack has a very sensitive tummy. But it is hard to see him trying with all of his cat superpowers to hypnotize us into offering up delicious tiny bites for him to enjoy. Frankly, I have to use my own human superpowers to overcome his cat ones.
Perhaps I have grown stauncher in my old age.
There's a word you don't hear very often.
Or perhaps I am just meaner now. Old people can get mean, you know, although it seems to me that it's not really getting meaner, it's just reaching a stage of life where putting up with bullshit is simply not going to happen.
Yes. We shall call it that.
Hank and Rachel came out around noon. They have a tire that's been worrisome and Glen wanted to look at it here where he could absolutely tell if it was leaking and deal with it if it was. He did not find any sort of leak in it, which is good, and I got to visit with my boy and his ladylove. They are in the getting-really-serious stage of planning their wedding and so we talked a lot about that. They've met with their DJ, they've picked out their cake. Hank is getting a real, honest to god tailored suit. They have picked out their colors, (sage green and lavender), designed their invitations, put down the deposit on the venue, and have a caterer.
And Rachel has a dress.
They are both going to have one attendant to stand with them. The invitation will state that people can wear whatever makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. There will be dancing. And children running around being wild. It will be traditional, it will be queer, it will be fabulous!
I believe I have my own mother-of-the-groom outfit and it is comfortable. The outfit itself is beautiful but as to making me feel beautiful? This is not quite as guaranteed.
But that is neither here nor there. This will be Hank and Rachel's day. They have loved each other for a very long time and they have been through the hardest times and the sweetest times together. Rachel has been "Aunt Rachel" for the longest time. She is very much a part of our family already.
Tomorrow, if all goes as planned, I am going with May and possibly Billy and Jessie, too, if she gets called off work, to get pedicures and then have lunch at Sahara, a Mediterranean place that has the best food. I am so excited. I haven't gotten to spend nearly enough time with May lately and of course I haven't seen Billy in forever. So that will be very nice.
I've felt quiet today. Just that- quiet. I've done very little but do not feel bad about it. My sweetheart is doing better, as am I, and I'm about to cook us some snapper along with some other foods that I'm not sure about yet. You know how we artists are- we improvise as we go.
Haha!
Sundays can be like this. Days to get through. Days to try not to overanalyze. They're just part of it all.
As are we.
Love...Ms. Moon
Another lovely day in Lloyd and a wedding to look forward to, and pedis tomorrow. Life is good.
ReplyDeleteLife is indeed good.
DeleteDefinitely looking forward to pictures of Hank and Rachel's wedding! It will definitely be a festive occasion with your crowd in attendance!
ReplyDeleteWe all need a quieting of our minds and souls every now and again!
I am predicting some joyous and raucous behavior!
DeleteA wedding in sage and lavender! Beautiful!
ReplyDeletePoor Jack, you could have a cat treat for him hidden under you plate, maybe that would work.
You are 100% correct about getting years behind us and having fewer effs to give, tired of tiresome BS. Some might say we are cranky...it is just that our tethers are shorter- no time to waste.
The problem is- I do not want him near my plate. I've trained him not to stick his nose in it with the spray bottle of water. It only took about three times for him to get the message. My heart wants to give him treats but my heart also says, "Get that cat out of the plate!"
DeleteYou're so right about our tethers.
Congratulations to Hank and Rachel. You must be thrilled to see them tie the knot. I send my best to the happy couple.
ReplyDeleteI also have a short fuse for incompetence and take delight in calling a spade a spade.
My dog is spoiled and he insists on a treat from the table. He likes cherry tomatoes so I always have two for him.
At least you can train your dog not to get on the table. With cats, they're so quick and agile it can be difficult.
DeleteYes. I am delighted that Hank and Rachel are formalizing their love bond. I really am.
My cat eats on the table, her bowls are an arm's length away, because she simply will not eat anywhere else, but she knows better than to approach my plate.
DeleteThat will be a sweet day for them and the families. In the meantime, enjoy your night.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's a beautiful day!
DeleteI know that Hank and Rachel's wedding will be perfect and full of family and love. Sundays are for being laid back. I don't understand why our calendar has Sunday as the first day of the week when it is obviously the very last day, the day of rest. and yeah, as you age you just stop putting up with bullshit.
ReplyDeleteI've never understood Sunday being the first day of the week either. I mean, even the good old Bible says, "And on the seventh day he rested." Not the first day!
DeleteBullshit has become more and more of an anathema to me.
How far away is the wedding? I am sure you will share the love with us.
ReplyDeleteIt's in early-ish November. Not so far off.
DeleteA wedding to look forward to. It sounds lovely, organized but not giving out instructions to guests. I like this.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what people wear!
DeleteI forgot to say I probably sound cranky these days, but I don't have time for shenanigans any more.
ReplyDeleteNo More Shenanigans!
DeleteWe should make T-shirts with that on it.
I have clothes that make me feel beautiful, but they no longer fit and live in a box that I keep forgetting to take to the nearest thrift store. Hank and Rachel's wedding will be beautiful. I remember when I was about 5 my mother painted our living room lavender and sage, three walls of sage and one lavender feature wall. Caused quite a stir in the neighbourhood at the time, two colours in one room? Unheard of!
ReplyDeleteYour mother was quite bold indeed! Good for her!
DeleteI’ve become more of a softie with our cats. They rule. However, we never let them have people food and now they don’t even show an interest. Score one for us. I’m cranky a lot lately. I try not to show it. Exciting about the sage and lavender wedding. I wish you could look in the mirror and see your beauty.
ReplyDeleteI try not to show my crankiness either but I'm sure I don't hide it very well.
DeleteThank you, Mitchell. You made me cry a little.
When is the wedding? Sage and lavender sounds so pretty!
ReplyDeleteNovember! I do like sage and lavender.
DeleteThat will be a lovely wedding. We will need to see lots of photos! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there will be photos galore.
DeleteI am also looking forward to wedding pictures. I know it's going to be a memorable event!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the upcoming Wedding, we'll look forward to the Photos! We don't give Eli the Cat Human Foods either for the same reason, but we do spoil him with gourmet Cat Foods and Cat Treats, so, he doesn't tend to beg for our Food, he's got it pretty good with his own Specialty Menu. *LOL*
