Medically Induced Laziness

Thank all of you who reassured me that you had gotten the flu shot or the flu shot and the covid shot at the same time, with little or no reaction. However, as I said in an answer to a comment, I am either a wimp or a high-reactor.
Or, both, I suppose. I tell myself that I simply have a very good immune system which jumps right to attention when challenged by alien life forms. This may or may not be true.
When I woke up I felt pretty funky and as the day progressed, I felt worse although I'm feeling better this evening. I think I could have slept for most of the day but god knows I sure don't want to interfere with a good night's sleep so I stayed awake and didn't do a lot. I sat on the couch and knit some and watched most of The Eyes of Tammy Faye which of course is a movie about Tammy Faye Bakker and thus also about her husband, Jim Bakker, the well-known evangelical scam artist and sexual predator.
It is amusing and doesn't suck.
That's a great review, right?

I somehow roused myself to make the Thanksgiving cranberry relish. This is not a big deal. I just washed fruit and chunked some of it up and ran it through the food processor. I put it in one of the set of bowls that belonged to my mother. I only use them for very special occasions as they are quite old and in some cases crumbling.

These bowls were very much a part of my childhood and Mother used them for everything from banana strawberry Jello to yes, the cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving. I cannot seem to find anything about the bowls. The only marking is the word "Germany" on the bottoms.

Any ideas?

I am feeling a little martyr-y today due to the fact that my beloved, my darling partner, my very own Mr. Moon has not asked me how I feel after getting my flu shot.
I feel quite certain that he doesn't remember I got it. He's got a lot on his mind.
He sent me this picture today and said, "Actually, I think I'm getting taller."

I told him that he was not going to be able to get into the house. That man does not need to get any taller.
On the other hand, I have been feeling fatter, not taller, and if I don't get off my butt and start making healthier eating choices I won't be able to get into the house either. Or leave it, as the case may be.
Well, I do have those double doors at both ends of the hallway. I suppose I have some leeway there.

I have not commented yet on the Democrats keeping the Senate but I would assume you all know how I feel about that. I took two semesters of American Political History at FSU, taught by absolutely one of the best teachers I ever had, Dr. Jim Jones (not that Jim Jones) and although I got A's both semesters I do not remember much about American Political History but I DO remember that midterms historically go badly for the party in power and so this election defied history and the common expectation and please, please, please I pray to all the powers that be, for this to be a sign, an omen, an indication that D. Fuckhead Trump is losing his power, influence, and steam.

I guess that's about all I need to talk about and even more. Perhaps tomorrow I shall set about getting Maggie's name quilt cut and pinned. I am sure I will feel better by then.

Here's what one of the pecan trees looked like this evening when I went out to close the hen house.

As I have often noted, pecans are the first to lose their leaves in fall and the last to get new ones in spring. Those clumps you see are mistletoe which love pecan trees, to the trees' detriment. They are a parasite and rob the tree of water and nutrients. There is an interesting article about mistletoe HERE.

We may get more rain tomorrow and that will be fine with me. I plan on going to bed early tonight, snuggling down and enjoying the sweetness of the bed I left so reluctantly this morning. I have been cold all day which is probably an indication of a tiny fever and it will be so good to crawl under the covers.

As you can see, Jack is already waiting.

And Dorothy Anne and Emily have been snuggled under the duck because like all mothers, I make sure my babies are warm when I am cold.

Lord. It's probably time for Mr. Moon to come home soon.
You think?

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I'm getting closer and closer to getting a cat. How I miss a cat that sleeps in my bed, and now the goose is on, it really needs a cat to help hold it down.

    1. You are so right. Jack is absolutely the best cover anchorer. That boy can hold down a cover.

  2. I think Joanne should get a cat. I hope you enjoy your sleep and feel better tomorrow.

    1. Indeed! Joanne definitely needs a cat. I felt all better today.

  3. I second e's motion that Joanne get a cat, stat. Sometimes, it feels almost luxurious to have a day when you simply stay home and move through the day in a lazy dreamy way. I can do this without a covid shot.

    1. Oh listen- for me to have a good excuse to be perfectly lazy is so nice. Now- being REALLY sick? No thanks.

  4. There's nothing as relaxing as a cat on top of a person. And I'm the same way with vaxes, Mary. I can't even get a flu shot now, after the last shenanigans, officially declared too dangerous! But I can get all the covid shots which lay me low, shivering then sweating then trembly, the whole scene. And I too claim it's my terrific immune system going out on me! I'm glad you got them both. People like me rely on others who can get the flu shot to do so.

    1. Yes. We just have super immune systems! Our bodies are ready at all times to take on foreign invaders!

  5. Jack and the dolls....OMG! So cute! I inherited my mom's doll collection. Well over 100. I had/have no one to pass them on to so just have kept them. My cat, Eddie, basically ignores them...thankfully. The stinker does like to chew on the ends of books. So, all the books are up and out of reach, if that's even possible for a cat?
Sorry you got kicked a little from the flu shots. Fortunately, that passes.
I'm having a love affair with that green chair. Jack's throne? Feel better.

    1. I doubt that Jack actually registers those dolls. He just wants to sleep on the pillow beside them. I've never had a cat who chewed books but I did have one that would chew through bread bags and eat half a loaf at a time.
That green chair cheers me immensely every time I look at it.

  6. i was so hoping that my easy experience with the covid booster and flu vaccine was how it would be for everyone! So sorry you feel like shit. I hope there is some consolation in knowing that you probably won't get the flu, which would be that much worse! I miss having a cat. I dream about my former feline companions quite often.

    1. I hear the flu is brutal this year and the hospitals here are reporting that they are seeing huge numbers of people with it.
So why can't you have a cat? Will jungle critters get it? I am not sure I could abide my alone times without my cat companions. They are good and fairly non-demanding company.

    2. Our dogs would kill the cat. I love the dogs, but they are not civilized. And we have to keep the dogs for protection.

  7. Hope you are feeling better already and that Mr. Moon comes home soon. Have you let him know that you miss him so?
Oddly enough, this is the second blog I have read today that has discussed mistletoe! I have never seen any live mistletoe. Interesting info...

    1. Ha! That is funny about the mistletoe. How often do we really discuss it? Not that often.
Oh yes. Glen and I let each other know all the time how much we love and miss each other.

  8. If it is the sort of cold that feels like ice water in your veins, that's a vaccine reaction. Otherwise, probably still a reaction, but lesser and will be gone soon. The babies look very cosy snuggled under the duck with Jack to keep them company.
I never knew what mistletoe looked like before I clicked that link, I never cared enough to find out.

    1. The vax reaction is gone today so it wasn't much.
Mistletoe is more interesting than we'd think, isn't it?
I like to think that Dorothy Anne and Emily appreciate the covers over their legs when it's chilly.

  9. As Boud says and you think, it IS the immune system kicking in, a nurse told me so when I mentioned my reaction to my first shot.

  10. I'm sure that Mr. Moon told you how lovely and warm it was here today. I had to take off my winter jacket.

I sadly don't have any of my mum's old bowls, wish I did. I do have a set like her's though and when I use the bowls, I think of mum.

I found a handmade twin size quilt at Salvation Army today for $15 so I bought it. It has a few worn bits that I will patch and then take to my father in law for him to use on his bed in the care home. Hopefully it will brighten up his room.

    Hope you're feeling better tomorrow.

    1. Glen told me today that it was about twenty-four there today and dry which was perfect for hunting.
My bowls make me think of my mother too but mostly they make me think of Jello! How silly is that?
I am sure that your father-in-law will truly appreciate the love and color of that quilt. You're so thoughtful.

  11. I sure do hope you're feeling better soon! I love that bowl and am surprised that no one on the worldwide webs can find some sign of where in Germany it's from!

  12. That bowl is really pretty. I would cherish it so much, as much for the sentimental value, to be honest. And I love Mr. Moon's crack about getting taller! Hope you feel better soon!

  13. Hell yes. A good immune system doing as it is meant to do. Thank you so much for not trotting out the "the shot gave me the flu" crap I hear every year.
So Mr Moon had snow? He will be looking forward to coming home on many fronts.

    1. Oh Lord- I have had the flu and it's nothing like the little reaction I had. The flu is miserable! I always say that if your hair hurts it's flu. If it doesn't, it's just a cold.
I think that Glen is loving the snow. He sure seems to be.

  14. Mistletoe may be a parasite but at least it's pretty. (Unlike any other parasite I can think of.) Sorry about your shot reaction -- here's hoping it subsides quickly. The bowl is interesting but, yeah, hard to get any info about it without a maker's mark. You might try uploading a picture of the design to Google and see if it comes up with any similar ones...? (If you're really curious!)

    1. Mistletoe is prettiest when it's a small sprig tied with a red bow and hanging over a doorway to induce kissing. That's my opinion, anyway.
I did the google lens thing and nothing even remotely like my bowls came up. Just other random blue and white bowls.

  15. "Any ideas?" Well this is the land of Sherlock Holmes! Putting on my Sherlock Holmes deerstalker hat in relation to your mother's bowls, the available evidence has led me to the surprising conclusion that the bowls were made in Germany - probably for export as within Germany the country is known as Deutschland. If you have any other mysteries to solve, I'm your man.

  16. Hubby and I are scheduled for our flu and Covid booster vaccines next week. I'm worried now that I should change that. I love my hubby with all my heart but he's a pansy when he's sick. I've already got a request for veggie soup when we get home from our vaccines...just in case.

    1. I don't think I'd get both at once, honestly. But you know- you can do it and get 'em both knocked out at the same time. Chances are your husband will be better off with just one recovery, even if it's a little worse than two lighter ones.

  18. What is he hunting for up there in the snow? My pecan trees have only just started to lose leaves but still have a full canopy. No mistletoe in the pecans but the hackberry next door has it. It's cold here, cold in the house because we are stingy with the propane, it's so expensive, but I have two heatdish electric heaters that move around and keep me warm. My poor tropicals are still out in these 30s and 40s temps. I did rearrange the garage so now to bring them in.
