What A Day!

It has been a beautiful day in the neighborhood and no doubt about it. But it's been a rather busy and somewhat stressful day in that Hank got surgery for a hernia. I didn't write about it yesterday in case he was preserving privacy but he posted about it on FB last night and has gotten a hundred and nineteen comments so I guess privacy isn't an issue. And to cut to the chase- he's out of surgery now and he's fine but damn, it's been a long day for him and for Rachel. We all know how it goes. You have to be at the hospital at the asscrack of dawn and then they get around to you about forty-eight hours later. But here's what he looked like when he was all prepped and ready to go, i.e., forty-seven hours before his surgery.

Note the typewriter tattoo and mama-made dinosaur mask. Poor Rachel. She had to sit in the waiting room for hours and there was a RED ALERT which means fire and she was all, "What the fuck?" and bells were ringing and buzzers were buzzing but that turned out to be nothing or nothing much. And she had to wait and wait and wait and of course now they have that screen like at the airport with times of patients' arrivals and surgeries and releases to recovery and post op and she's texting us all and I'm in Publix when she tells us about the fire alarm and I'd forgotten my list and wasn't thinking straight at all about anything, much less groceries but I think they should be home soon.

I went to town because I asked Hank yesterday what I could make him to eat for after surgery and he said chicken and dumplings so I got out the huge pot that I got at the Costco and cooked up a whole bunch of good healthy chicken and vegetables with nice dumplings and took that over to their house and left it on the back porch because it's chilly and they'll be fine until they can get into the refrigerator or on the stove.

Have I just set a record for run-on sentences?
I hope so. I was really feeling it there.

Besides all that I went to the dump and post office this morning. My package from Lis had arrived. I have forgotten to tell y'all about her Etsy shop! Let's fix that right now. If you go HERE, you will find her cards and some gorgeous antique ribbon and crystal art jewelry

that she makes with her own two hands sewing thousands of tiny stitches, the same hands that can play guitar and banjo like nobody's business and make enough chili to feed hundreds.
I had ordered two boxes of her cards- one of old Florida waterways and the other of fairies.

These prints are all made from vintage postcards that Lis has collected for years and years, bordered by her ribbon art and are as beautiful and fine and perfect as Lis herself is. You really have to go see for yourself. They are packaged beautifully, beribboned and bowed so that you feel as if you are getting a present that you will be able to share with others.

You cannot imagine the dreams and vision and work and love that have gone into these beautiful cards and her ribbon art.
So- yeah. Go check it out.

And I hope that none of you have forgotten what day it is today. I can see you scratching your heads and wondering what I'm talking about. Well, scratch no more.
It is my spirit totem animal's 77th birthday and the thirty-seventh anniversary of his marriage to Patti Hansen. Which is, in rock star years, a combined total of ten thousand human years.

So, happy Keithmas. When I heard that Hank's surgery was scheduled for today I told him that I felt compelled to tell him that the date was Keith Richards' birthday. He replied something to the effect of, "Somehow that makes me feel better."

And so, in honor of Keith, Fender guitars, and rock and roll in general, I will leave you with this bit of video which I have posted before. Please remember that the guy Keith attacked was onstage, about to grab Keith's mate, Mick Jagger and that Keith bailed him out of jail the next morning. Also, that when he strapped his guitar back on, it was still in tune and he continued on with the song.

Although Keith, like the rest of us, has mellowed in many ways and is a loving family man with children and grandchildren, I still love remembering him as he once was- a wild man.
May he live to rock and roll (the important part, as he says) for many, many more years.
Happy Friday. Gold rings on ya.

Love...Ms. Moon

  7. I'm happy to hear Hank's surgery went well. My youngest son had hernia surgery last October and since he is not married we took him to the hospital and he stayed with us that first night after the surgery. His surgery was done by a robot. Can you believe that? Well, it was controlled by the doctor but still. I wrote about it on my blog. He did not tell me it was done by a robot until after he was back home with us. I guess he knew I might freak!

I hope Hank heals up quickly and feels better soon!

    1. I can indeed believe that surgery is being done by robots.
Yes. I've taken care of a lot of people after surgery and it was odd not to do it again but I knew Hank was right where he needed and wanted to be.

    1. Isn't Lis's art amazing? She astounds me. Like it's not enough that she can write incredible songs, play like she does, and sing like an angel. No! She has to be an artist, too!
And Happy Keithmas to you, my dear.

  9. I loved your expression "the asscrack of dawn". It made me chuckle. Good that Hank has emerged from the hospital in good health. And a partridge in a pear tree to you!

    1. Have you never heard that expression before? We use it around here. May it's a US thing. We're so cultured, you know.

  10. Keithmas! I love it! I don't remember ever seeing that guitar-chop video before but I admire the way he didn't hesitate for an instant. He got right in there and neutralized the threat! They'd probably speculated about what they'd do if some nut got on the stage and Keith said, "Well, I'll guitar-chop him." So he was prepared. I'm guessing.

I hope Hank heals quickly! I've never heard of a fire alarm during surgery -- that DOES sound like a nightmare. Glad it turned out to be nothing.

I LOVE those Florida waterways cards! Liz is so artistic.

    1. He was on his TOES that night, wasn't he? I have watched that video many times and never get tired of it. I wonder if he had ever thought about the prospect of having to use his guitar as a weapon. Who knows?
Fire alarms in a hospital just cannot be a good thing. Right?
Maybe you'll get a Lis card one day. We shall see...

  11. I'm glad Hank is ok. It's a worry being in hospital at any time, but especially in these covid times isn't it. And your friend's cards are simply stunning. Can't buy them over here though as they would slam about 100% import duty on them I reckon. I was tickled to see ol' Keith whack that guy with his guitar. My weird brain has the other guy coming out the other side of that guitar like some cartoon character chopped up like a bunch of French fries!

    1. It IS scary to be in a hospital now. I guess that buying Lis's cards when you're in France wouldn't be prudent. Sad, though.
Yes. Your brain is...different. I would never have thought of that!

  15. Wishing your beloved boy Hank a speedy recovery from his surgery on Keithmas. Sorry I didn't read this in real time, so I could have sent these wishes on speedier wings. And now I shall have to go and visit Lis's Etsy shop!
