This is what the Glen Den has looked like since last night when Mr. Moon inflated the kayak to see what it looks like. Pretty cool, huh? Made getting around the room a little difficult but, oh well.
We watched Ma Rainey's Black Bottom on Netflix last night. Powerful, powerful stuff there. Highly recommend.
Lis called me this morning. Y'all must have gone to her link last night because her stats were up like a rocket this morning. Thank you so much! I can't tell you how much that means to me.
And to Lis.
Hank is doing very well. Thank you all for your good wishes. He is staying cozy and his pain is well managed and he is feeling most grateful for Rachel. As are we all. She's just a jewel, that one. How we love her.
It's been another sausage-making day here. This is sort of ridiculous, isn't it? Who could eat this much sausage? These men get into projects and they just keep going. I haven't helped at all. Jessie and I walked down to the post office with the boys. Here's a picture of Levon with a doll stroller that I found at the dump yesterday.
And now I need to go make some more chicken and dumplings. Mr. Moon was a bit upset that I didn't save any from the ones I made yesterday so I am making more. I think the Weatherfords will be eating with us tonight so I need to get to it.
I hate to even bring this up but- WTF on this new Covid strain? Y'all, we aren't nearly done with this shit. And if people don't smarten up about quarantining and masking, we never will be. You guys in the UK be safe and stay well, okay?
Love...Ms. Moon
I heard about the new strain on NPR this afternoon....WTF?!? It was so disheartening after getting excited for the vaccine. I wonder if the vaccines will work on the new strain, too? I hope so.
ReplyDeleteI meant to comment on last night's post then fell asleep. I'm so glad Hank is okay! And chicken and dumplings sound SO GOOD. I haven't had them in years. I would pay good money for a plate of yours right now!
I hear that the vaccine is applicable to the new strain. God, I hope so.
DeleteThose chicken and dumpling were pretty good.
Just watched Black Bottom, had to take a few breaks because, INTENSE.
ReplyDeleteWonder if the little boys would have liked the trip better if Zippy was in the buggy? I know I would. Of course the virus would mutate, it wants to survive. apparently humans don't or humans feel superior to little tiny virus. Sounds like South Park.
Intense is right. The very ending slayed me and broke my heart, I might watch it again. It's one of those movies that you can miss things because you're still hanging on to the thought that just happened. You know?
DeleteViruses are exceptionally good at living. Wonder where those fuckers came from?
I quit listening to the new virus. I don't have any more room in my ears.
ReplyDeleteYou are smart, Joanne. But I knew that.
DeleteI had a young woman here telling me that this vaccine is nightmare and that we all need to get covid and get over it. Herd Immunity, she said. At this point, one in every 28 people in our county have tested positive for covid. How many more people need to get it before we are safe? I'm so tired of people throwing around phrases they don't understand.
ReplyDeleteSame here, Debby. People have no idea how much of the population would have to get the virus before "herd" immunity takes place. Ask the native Americans who lost most of their population to white man viruses. Jesus. People are ignorant as shit.
DeleteI read today that the vaccine will work on the new strain too. it's just a fucking race and right now covid is winning. over 3,000 dead yesterday. the whole Dallas contingent of Marc's family with the exception of my sister-in-law (so far) has it. no one hospitalized yet. one brother has been flying back and forth to Denver where he has a dental practice and still they all socialized with him and his wife and kid. and now they all have it
ReplyDeleteOh, Lord, Ellen. People really don't believe it can happen to them, don't they? I'm glad they all seem to be okay.
DeleteI've been reading about the new strain of virus in the UK too. What a bloody nightmare. Now many EU countries are again banning flights from Britain which is proving more of a nightmare for people hoping to get out to start their new lives in the EU before 31 December. For instance, in France, if you want to claim residence as an EU citizen you have to be physically living here by 31 December and those that had gotten caught short by the first round of covid, then had problems selling their homes in the UK might now have their hopes dashed. I can't wait for 2020 to be over (although I realize the virus isn't going anywhere soon). As for the the Glen Den, I think it's great, although I did balk at having snowboards and skis in my dining room one year in the middle of August. And I'm glad Hank's doing better. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot more layers to this onion than we can even imagine, aren't they? I hadn't even thought about the whole Brexit thing and how that's going to be even more complicated.
DeleteI don't think that 2021 is going to change much either although at least we will have a new president.
The kayak is now stowed away and the Glen Den is back to its normal messy, albeit relatively clear state.
That is quite an addition to the Glen Den. At least it adds more seating, yes? As long as you don't trip over it...which would be something I would do. Hope he doesn't think he can get it back in the box. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear Hank is on the mend and that the lovely Rachel is taking such good care of him. A weight off a mama's mind.
He did get the kayak back in the bag. I guess magic is involved. And yes, August was definitely using it for seating.
DeleteA weight off a mama's mind INDEED!
I wonder if the kids will expect the kayak to be there permanently. It's a fun decor item.
ReplyDeleteI think they realize it's going to be out of the room by their next visit.
DeleteI watched "Ma Rainey's..." yesterday too! I couldn't stop thinking that Chadwick Boseman was dying of colon cancer while making that movie. He gave such a powerful performance - I don't know where he found that energy. Viola Davis was amazing. Our history of how people of color have been treated in this country is just ...I don't even know the word - disgusting? criminal?
ReplyDeleteYour group keeps busy! That fancy kayak - I can't believe it is inflatable! Looks so sturdy.
I enjoy your posts - you bring so much life into my quiet home!
Wasn't Chadwick Boseman amazing? God, I hate thinking of how much work he did before he died, knowing that he was so sick. Bless him. What a loss. And Viola Davis truly WAS wonderful in that role. I bought her as Ma Rainey hook, line, and sinker.
DeleteI would say that the history of the US is "inhuman" but in truth, "human" is more like it. God, we're a cruel species.
It's a very sturdy kayak. I think we're going to enjoy it.
I'm so glad you enjoy my posts. Thank you, Ellen.
What a great kayak! (And a great picture!) Hope your second batch of chicken and dumplings went well. I'm not a scientist, but I really don't think this new virus variant is THAT big a deal. Mutations are expected and as long as the vaccines still work, that's the main thing. And the illness isn't more severe. But it's not great news that it seems to be more infectious.
ReplyDeleteI had some more romantic and artful photos of the kayak when it was in the hallway. Better ambient lighting, you know. And camellias.
DeleteI sure hope you're right about that vaccine. I'm glad this mutation isn't more virulent than the original.
That's quite a kayak. I wonder if I should do something like that in my living room:) I know it's not permanent.
ReplyDeleteGlad Hank is okay.
Y'all stay safe.
You, too, could have a kayak in your living room! Email me for details and other decorating tips!
DeleteThat is some kayak and Mr. Moon looks like a very happy sailor!
ReplyDeleteHe's got a brand new toy so you know he's happy.
Deletewell, that inflatable kayak is some room decor LOL! New virus strain.....lordy, will it ever end? And I don't Netflix, but I do *Kanopy* which is a free streaming service offered by our local library (where I volunteered for 5 years prior to Covid, when all volunteering was halted). We watched a wonderful movie last night called *The Magic of Belle Isle..... uplifting, warm, just a feel good film. It was much needed. Who cannot love Morgan Freeman?
ReplyDeleteSusan M
The Magic of Belle Isle.
DeleteOkay. I need to make a note. I love almost anything with Morgan Freeman in it.
That Kayak in the Den my Grands and their Friends would soon turn Gaming Chair and think it a great idea! They once turned their Grandpa's Wheelchair into one when he didn't need it anymore saying it was comfy for long term Gaming sprees, which I imagine it would be since it's designed for long term sitting. The new Viral Strain in Britain that is 70% more contagious is terrifying and will surely isolate them and create more hardships there importing essentials and exporting anything, I feel so badly for them. We have Family in North Wales so I pray they don't have it come there, it's really a small Island of a Nation... seems the rest of Europe and Canada were swift to put travel sanctions in place so they must think it to be really, really dangerous and out of control.
