Snake Update

Well, there's your snake. Or mine, anyway.
Jessie was here and we made her daddy come and pull him out for us. He did not want to as he was in the final throes of getting the vast operation known as "going fishing" together. But he did it. With his bare hand.
What a man. What a man.
Our neighbor suggested that the snake must have crawled down in the hole and then something killed him. Ants or a wasp, probably. Maybe the wasp because he did not look to be very torn up. He sure was wedged in that hole, though, so I really don't know how he backed in like that.
It's still a mystery to me. And I still don't know what kind of snake it was. It's a pretty little snake.
But here's my theory- he was completely addled by the heat, whatever it was he was doing.

And everyone is gone now so I think I'll go lay down and have the vapors.

  1. Maybe he crawled into the hole through another entrance and was trying to wiggle back out again?

  2. Did you rebury him/her? I think if I saw a snake like that in my backyard, I'd have to move to an Arctic-tundra location - permanently!

  4. I think DTG may be right, but I really like the idea of the ants dragging him into the hole. Maybe you have a bad neighborhood boy who injured the snake and then buried him alive and set ants on him. If I was a very bad boy I might do something like that. But I am not and I love all god's creatures.

  5. DTG- That is another possibility.

Ms. Hope- Of course not! He is lying right where he was pulled out of the hole. He is food for whatever wants him.

Kori- He's too skinny for me to eat.

May- You are a child of god and you do love all of god's creatures. But you know- school IS out and the children get so bored...
    You could be right.
I think, however, that this shall remain a true Mystery Of Lloyd.

  6. "Have the vapors"-I've never known exactly what that means. But it reminds me of Scarlett and Blanche but definitely not Scout. Is it something that overtakes you, or something you... ummm... imbibe??
    Enlighten me, Ms. Moon

  7. Michelle- I actually have no idea what the vapors are but I think I may have them today. For me, it is a combination of too much heat, too much activity, too many hot flashes and the need to go lay down in front of a fan.
It has nothing to do with imbibing. Although imbibing could create a vaporish-like state in a lady, I suppose, especially if she were wearing a corset, it was hot, and she was having hot flashes.
I don't wear corsets. Or even Spanx.

  8. Too strange. After I read your post today, Harley and I went to the PO as usual and we too had one of those little pretty dead snakes in our driveway. He/she was not buried though. I had marc take a photo, but it could be a while before I can post it. *dont ask!* Anyway, Marc thinks it is some sort of Gardner snake. Also right next to the snake was a large dead insect. It was so large it actually smelled like dead thing. Creep show!

  9. I can honestly say I'd rather happen upon one of those snakes (dead OR alive) than one of those menacing looking spiders! I may have a nightmare tonight just from looking at that picture.

  10. I hope you had a nice, cool fan blowing on you as you rested off the vapors.

  11. Petit Fleur- And the mystery continues...

Rachel- I apologize. But my spiders cannot hurt you. I promise.

Ginger- I have a nice, cool fan blowing on me as we speak. I bought it to do sound effects for a radio show and it has proven itself to be a trusty companion for hot weather as well.

    Garter or garden?

  14. Wouldn't the ants be able to carry it in?

Cos they've got high hopes, you know, high hopes.
