I hear from the fisherpeople that the air conditioner on Dog Island is not working. It appears to have been hit by lightening. So they're out all day on the ocean, fishing hard under the blistering, unrelenting sun and then coming in at night to rest in the swelter of a small, un-airconditioned house which has been baking in the waves of heat coming up from the white sand and the water.
I can't even find the words to express how sorry I feel for them.
Oh, man, that sucks so bad. I would just stay up to my neck in the bay all night until the noseeums made that impossible to stand.
ReplyDeleteWith the heat, the sweat, can you imagine the SMELL? Poor fisherpeople!
ReplyDeleteugh - it's not even officially summer yet! our a/c at work was broken earlier this week and it was miserable! i love a/c...
ReplyDeleteI hope they have cold beers.
ReplyDeleteUgh and what's the heat index? Like 130? That's what kills.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to stand in front of the fan now because just reading this made me hot all over again.
DTG- But you have to walk halfway to Carabelle before you hit deep water.
ReplyDeleteKori- Well, they do have running (stinky) water.
CMe- Me too.
Steph- They don't drink when they fish. Well, they drink water and PowerAde and stuff like that. Fishing is serious business.
Nola- I imagine NO is sweltering just like we are.
Talk about character building... whoa!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of an old saying, "a family that sweats together, sticks together." :-)
Ugh :( It was 95 here today and I thought about you down there and how this mugginess is business as usual for you guys. you're right -impossible not to talk about!
ReplyDeletePetit Fleur- Ha! That's a good one.
ReplyDeleteSJ- It's something, isn't it?
Just stay in that linen and air conditioning.
