I Got What I Needed

Well, Blogger does not seem to want me to post pictures this evening so there will be no images, graven or otherwise here. Unless things change by the time I hit publish at which point this paragraph will be useless.

The picture (only one) I was going to post was another photo of pink camellias in the pink basket vase. If the freezes we had did anything to affect the camellias' blooming, it would seem that it has encouraged them. My bushes are full again and they have been a vibrant blaze against the gray sky we've had all day. The Japanese Magnolia is also blooming but you won't see a picture of that here today either.

Last night, before I went to bed I told my husband, "I hope it rains tomorrow because I really want an excuse not to walk." He laughed. The forecast was for rain and indeed it has rained on and off all day. It's heavy drizzling now, the whole back yard sounding like a trickling fountain while the dripping on the air conditioning/heating unit is a snappy percussion accompaniment.
The three walks I did take this week have made me feel more than my age. I know that exercise is supposed to make you feel better but in my case, it never really has. Not physically, at least. Emotionally, yes, because I feel less guilty in general if I have exercised but even when I took yoga three times a week and was quite flexible and bendy, my joints and muscles still hurt all the time. More, not less than when I don't exercise. This does not exactly inspire me to movement but I know I must do it and that is that. And actually, while I AM walking, nothing really hurts. It's just the afterwards part. This morning I told Mr. Moon that I felt like someone had been punching me all night. "Was it you?" I asked.
"Yes," he said. "I couldn't sleep and I had nothing better to do."
We laughed. We make each other laugh a lot with our silliness and I don't know what I'd do if we didn't.

So I've just been pretty lazy today, doing a little of this and a little of that. I have no idea what in hell I've done, really, but of course I've washed the sheets and put them back on the bed. Not line-dried today, of course, but clean and crisp-ish again.

Okay. Here's a story about Maurice. Two nights ago I came across her on the kitchen island when I was about to go to bed. I took my life in my hands and bent down and kissed her forehead and gave her a little scratch behind the ears. Then I whispered to her, "Why don't you come sleep with us tonight?" She hasn't slept with us in forever. Not once since we moved into the other bedroom and not for a long time before that.
But that night, after I actually invited her, she did indeed creep into our room and jump on the bed and slept beside my legs all night long except for when she moved up to the pillow beside my head.
I really do think that cats understand human language but of course they do not want us to know. Dogs understand words, certain words at least, and we all believe that because they respond. Cats however, do not generally respond to our commands or calling because their grasp of the language is much more profound and if they respond too often we will know their secret which is NOT ALLOWED. But sometimes, if we are very sweet in our words to them, they will deign to do what we suggest.
Okay. That's my theory.

I posted on the Sebastian History Facebook group last night with pictures of Aunt Dot along with the link to a blog post I wrote about her  and have gotten a lot of "likes" and "loves" and comments. One from her niece! She said that Dotty had five sisters, one still alive. I had no idea. And if I ever did, I do not remember. This is still just so amazing to me.

There is more I could write about tonight but it is, as you know, martini night. Today I have gone encountered yet another part of my history, my memories, although a far more recent one than those of Roseland. It is raining like crazy again. It's been a very good day.
I started it out by watching a video of the Rolling Stones playing "Jumping Jack Flash" in 1978 and I have to tell you that it improved my mood tremendously.

As someone commented on the video, "It ain't over until Keith says it's over. Plus- Mick. You bad boy!

So no pictures of camellias, pink as a baby's blush, but a video of The Rolling Stones being the nasty boys they were which may cause you to blush.
Or probably not.

Happy Friday, y'all.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. We'll just have to go back to an earlier picture of camellias in a vase, then.

  2. Today I was listening to a Sirius station in the car and a live version of ‘Miss You’ came on. I cranked it up, adjusted the bass to w-a-a-y up there, pulled over and totally rocked out. I lost a dear friend yesterday to that fucking cancer (67!), and that song was our favorite for so long. I truly believe he was with me.

    1. Oh. I am so sorry about your friend. Damn, damn, damn.
But I'm glad that you got that song, just at the right time to bring him to you. Music is magic.

  3. I hope we all got what we needed today. I know I did, and it seems unfair to hear someone did not.
I glad Maurice got in bed with you. I miss a bed cat. I had two, who slept at my back and my legs. When Scotty, the back cat, moved to the next life, Pasha quit sleeping at my legs and went to my back. How I miss them.

    1. I feel as if something isn't right when I wake up and there is no cat snuggled up to me. They can be such a comfort.

  4. Too bad blogger didn't cooperate with your photo of camellias! You can never have too many camellias.

  5. Mick Jagger's posturing reminds me of Freddie Mercury from Queen.
I'm glad your camellias are still blooming.
My Lola sleeps with me most nights , under the covers curled up by my ribs, then close to morning she goes back under the bed where she seems to love being.

    1. I do love a dancing man. I think a lot of it started with James Brown. Mick's moves did for sure.
My cats won't sleep under the covers. Lola must like hiding as some cats do.

  6. It's odd that exercise doesn't make you feel physically better isn't it. Mentally I can understand, but I always feel like a million dollars afterwards. Not sure why that doesn't motivate me enough to get out there and do more of it - all the more so since I have a picture of the wonderful Ernestine Shepherd as my screensaver!

    1. I HURT after I exercise. Literally. I will never be an Ernestine Shepherd. She is amazing.

  7. I've been bad about doing my exercise for the past couple of weeks. This cold weather does not inspire me to roll my mat out. But it does make me feel better when I do. These three nights and extended hours below freezing, while not as bad as the two weeks of frigid weather last year , are probably doing a number on my easter lilies which were about a foot tall. Only got two flowers last year. Maybe won't get ny this year either.

    1. You are having some extended cold weather, aren't you? I'm sorry to hear about your Easter Lilies.

  8. Mick Jagger is the skinniest little guy, isn't he? So much energy! During this cold weather, I haven't been able to get out for my walks so I sometimes ride my exercycle. I have found that "The Walker" by Fitz and the Tantrums really gets me pumping!

    1. And he still doesn't have an ounce of fat on him. He may be the fittest rock star in history. I had an exerciser but I have to admit that I hardly ever used it.

  9. Sorry about your photo...Do you have a favorite Florida author or book?

    1. I do love the books of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Some of Connie May Fowler's early works about Florida were pretty darn good.

  10. Well, thank goodness for YouTube providing some visuals! What is up with Blogger and the pictures, I wonder? (I see you got it sorted in the subsequent post, but still...)

E's question above inspires me to ask: Have you ever read Alex Shoumatoff's book "Florida Ramble"? It's a road-trip-through-Florida collection of essays from the '70s and although I haven't read it in years, I loved it. I bet it would be right up your alley. If you haven't, I'll bring it to you next time I visit!
