Bed Is Going To Feel So Good Tonight

Jessie needed a little child care this morning so I said I'd come to their house since I needed to pick up a few things in town. I tell you what- it's such a joy to walk into a house and have little children scream your name. Or, at least your grandmother name. Those poor children are so starved for socialization with others that they'd welcome anyone right now but I was glad to be the one that came to see them. One of the things I'm looking forward to most when times become less fraught with pandemic worry is seeing all the cousins playing together again. Of course we read a bunch of books this morning and Levon does this thing where he tells me which characters in the book are him and Auga and also Owen, Gibson, Maggie, and his mother and father. Depending on how many characters there are.
Besides reading books we also cut out snowflakes- a recent project around the Weatherford house and I showed them how to cut out paper dolls. They were mildly impressed. I was mildly impressed that I still remember how to do it.
August is wearing his multi-tool in that picture, as you can see. It is clipped onto his pajamas which they did not want to get out of today. And why should they? August had lent me his multi-tool to fix a necklace of mine and it worked perfectly. I thanked him and he folded it back up and said, "My dad got me this when I was five."
He turned five less than three months ago and therefore he is still five according to my math but I thought that was a pretty precious thing. He'll always remember that his dad got him his first multi-tool when he was five.
Here's another picture.

I told them I was going to send it to Boppy and so Levon said, "Smooch!"
It was getting on towards noon and I asked them if they wanted lunch. They said they did and I offered all the things their mother had told me about. Soup, meatloaf, baked sweet potatoes.
No, no, no.
Popcorn! They wanted popcorn! They got a bag of microwave popcorn out of a box and handed it to me and instructed me how to make it.
So I did. And we had popcorn.
It was pretty good.

When Jessie came home we went outside to pick some limes and other citrus fruits. I can't believe how much fruit they're getting off the trees they planted just a few years ago in their front yard. It's crazy! Also beautiful.

I had to stop by Costco and Publix on my way home and I'd been anxious about it. The longer I do not leave Lloyd, the harder it is to leave Lloyd. Will I ever be able to travel again? And I've had a raggy little sinus-feeling headache all day long. So the idea of really going out in public was not appealing. Still- it had to be done. And I did it.

If you go to Costco and do not  buy these, I don't even know why you have a membership. I put them in everything I cook, just about. And on everything, too from salads to sandwiches. They are so delicious and sweet and cook nicely. As the New York Times' recipes always say, they are "jammy."
Just my opinion.

So I got my tomatoes and other stuff and came home and despite feeling not-great, I whipped ass and took names. I unloaded the car and put everything away, finished laundry, swept floors, got the dishwasher running, got sourdough dough autolysing (something I don't usually do but what the hell?), cleaned the hen house, cleared some things from the refrigerator that frankly- I'm sick of looking at, took the trash, cleaned out the trash can (whoa, boy! did that ever need doing) and...I don't know what else. Maybe nothing.
But it feels better in here now. Tidier, more organized, and there's a little scent of Fabuloso drifting through the house which is my own personal version of aromatherapy.

I haven't talked to Mr. Moon today but we'll probably talk tonight. Looks like it might rain tomorrow so I'll see if I can find some nice indoor project to do and then on Saturday it's supposed to be sunny and cool which would be perfect for the weeding and mulching I need to attend to in the garden.
I do loving having a plan, even if all I do is deviate from it. I remember how Kathleen always had a plan for everything. Once, during hurricane season, she practiced putting all of her chickens, dogs, and cats in the car in case she had to evacuate for a storm. She figured out how to do it and then she did not have to worry about it any more and she didn't worry about it anymore. This sort of thinking is completely alien to someone like me but I consider it to be a splendid way to live.
Let us all ponder that tonight.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Those boys can twist Mer round their little fingers. Popcorn for lunch? Next time it'll be popsicles and Hershey bars. So nutritious.

    1. It's like you know me...
No, seriously, I would not let them have popsicles and Hershey bars for lunch. But popcorn is not that bad. And I knew that Jessie would be home soon to enforce a little nutrition on them.

  2. I have pondered, Ms Moon, and I agree it is a splendid way to live. Identify your fears, come up with a plan and then abandon all thoughts of the fear because you have a plan

You seem to have had a lovely day. Starting with seeing August and Levon and finishing organised and smelling of Fabuloso. Never heard of Fabuloso, it's not a thing in the UK so I looked it up. The website has the tag line 'Fill Your Home with JOY!'. I need to get me some of this stuff.

    1. Kathleen was a genius.
Fabuloso is what they clean with in Mexico so my memories associated with it are wonderful. Also, I used a LOT of it with white vinegar to clean (you can combine them without poisonous gases occuring) when I was moving into this house. I should do that more often now!

  3. Yes, we could all use some Joy, as liz said! Your day sounds lovely....other than the fact that your sinus headache thing hit you. I hope that it's improving. Those two boys.....so precious and growing so fast. Can't recall which market.....but hope you saw the woman with the beautiful mermaid eyeshadow!
    Sweet night to you!

    1. I did NOT see Brenda, she of the beautiful mermaid eyeshadow. I did get to see Kevin though, who works in the liquor store. I always enjoy seeing him.
      And that's at Costco.
My headache is gone today. Perhaps weather changing?

  4. Levon owns that camera, doesn't he. Practically climbs inside.
I buy all my non groceries from the local dollar store; it's small enough I can walk it twice if I must. The location of goods in ours is rather haphazard, sadly, and twice can be necessary. If I pass the Fabuloso I think of you, and when my supply of PineSol ends, I'll replace it with Fabuloso.

    1. Levon is NOT afraid of the camera. That is for sure. Neither one have either come to hate it or be uncomfortable around it.
I am a little worried about you buying Fabuloso? What if you hate it? Then you'll be stuck with it. Luckily, it doesn't cost very much as you have probably noted.

  5. What a busy day you had! But what a wonderful day when it starts with those precious boys!

  6. I do that planning ahead thing all the time too. I'm glad you had such a sweet time with the boys. The photo of the bathroom was taken in 2013 as it was nearly completed. It is clean but needs re-caulking now, and I wish I had a trustworthy Mr. Moon for the job at hand. You did a lot today. Have a good rest.

    1. You're smart, e.
Well, I'm still impressed with your bathroom.
I hear that caulking isn't very hard but how would I know? I am lucky to have such a handy guy around.

  7. Kathleen's chickens, dogs and cats must have wondered what the heck she was up to!

I've had a sinus headache too. What is going on out there? Sunspots?

The boys crack me up, as usual. And those tomatoes are beautiful.

I miss growing citrus in my yard. :(

    1. Kathleen's "kids" as she called them, were sort of used to her eccentricities.
My headache is gone today. How about yours?
Those boys are hysterical. They never cease to amuse me.
Well, turns out we CAN grow citrus in North Florida. I don't think we get enough really hard freezes to kill them any more. Plus, they've developed varieties that are more cold tolerant.

  8. My First Grader GS comes each day for virtual schooling (they did a hybrid for just two weeks--the virus #s soared--so back to FT virtual--I'm guessing it will last the rest of the school year. He is usually happy to see me, but I can see the heavy toll not being with friends and his teacher is taking on him. Harder and harder to keep him focused for six hours at the computer--especially as they changed the school hours--now 10-4. Feel for Lily, too, with her kids online. I'm glad August and Levon have each other...though I can bet there are days when their Momma feels like she has a herd of argumentative monkeys in the house--not just two lively boys. :)

    1. You are exactly correct about the herd of argumentative monkeys.
I really do respect you for being the homse-school teacher's aid. That has got to be an incredibly hard job. Bless you. It's just hard on everyone.

  9. plans are good to have but they shouldn't be rigid. I usually have to alter any plan I may have for the day or the next few days as the world just won't conform to my desires. go figure. anyway, you got plenty done today to allow for at least one day of doing nothing.

    1. My plans are NEVER rigid. In fact, I rarely make any beyond the most banal. When Hank was about four he asked me why anyone ever bothered to make plans because it seemed to him that things never turned out the way you thought it would.

  10. I have pondered this, Mrs. Moon. I have led a relatively emergency-free life up to now. I am afraid that if I became prepared for emergencies, they'd begin to happen on a regular basis.

    1. Well, I feel that way too. But Kathleen was somewhat of a scientist and although in some ways she was incredibly whimsical, in others she was quite pragmatic and sensible.

  11. Now that I am retired I do not have many plans. I waste a lot of time but I get a walk in everyday and I try to do something that I can consider "productive" everyday. Not sure how but the days and weeks fly by so I must be doing something...

Sounds like a good day, especially the lunch with grandsons part. Stay safe my friend.
