Well, Turn The Calendar, It's April

The sky has been exactly that blue today, all day, not a cloud to be seen. And it is hot already. Only up in the upper eighties but Jesus God Damn, that's hot enough for me. And as you can see, the pecans have begun to leaf so it's safe to plant tomatoes, in case you were wondering.
I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to handle another summer in Tallahassee. Instead of building a house in Apalachicola, we should be looking for something up in North Carolina or Tennessee or Vermont. I mean, sure, we have air conditioning but I can't abide the thought of spending my entire summer inside and yet, when it starts getting above 90 and close to the 100's, that's what I'll be doing. There's no way I can do yard work or garden work in that sort of weather.
Another source of despair. It's only going to get worse. I keep wondering why people fight the reality of climate change and what we need to do to reverse it, if that's even possible at this point. I mean- what's the worst thing that could happen? We have a cleaner, healthier planet with cleaner healthier oceans? How bad could that be? Why would that suck?

Well, anyway, I didn't do any yard work today. Instead I went and got a manicure and a pedicure with Jessie and her best friend Melissa. They invited me and I thought, "Well, why not?" We had a good time and then we had a good lunch and then I got to hang out with August for a little while. He sat on the couch with me and we looked at pictures on my phone.
"Who's that?" I ask him. "Is that your cousin Maggie?"
He looked at them so intently, thinking hard. He's a thinker, that one.
Before I left he discovered a cupcake we'd brought back from lunch. He'd never seen a cupcake before, as far as we knew, but he was not adverse to figuring it out.

And here he is, lounging with his pretty mama.

I finally took my leave after he'd given me three August kisses which is him leaning forward with his lips towards my face.
I'll take what I can get and gladly.

After I got home I took the babies some cut-up fruit and and gave them fresh water. They're all doing very well. I did not go to the Tractor Supply and mainly because Mr. Moon and I are going to go spend the night in Apalach tomorrow and I wouldn't want to leave them so soon but I may stop at the Ace Hardware in Crawfordville on my way home on Monday because I hear they have all sorts of fancy chicks and no minimum purchase.
I'm insane.

I've taken the trash and I've watered the porch plants and I have laundry going and now we're going to play some cards. Mr. Moon's upset because he can't find his fishing weights. He's about to start his annual fishing/visiting trip with his sister and he needs those weights. I'm sure they'll show up some day but probably not before we leave tomorrow.

I have no idea why but I am so tired this evening. I didn't do squat except sit in a massage chair and get my feet worked on. I suppose it's just a day to be tired.
And speaking of feet, here's what mine look like already, a mere three hours after I paid the big bucks to have them made beautiful.

Well, nice color, huh?

Take care, y'all.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. The other day I saw a t.v. reporter talking about predictions that Phoenix highs would reach 130 degrees by the end of the century. And you think it's hot now.

From my Friday Funnies yesterday, once you lick the frosting off a cupcake it's a muffin. And muffins are healthy. You're welcome.

    1. I've always said that muffins are merely cupcakes without frosting. So- yeah.
And I could not live in Phoenix. I just could not. Not now and not ever.

  2. Re climate change and building a new home, if I were doing that
I'd want walls as thick as the rammed earth house I once visited in
Napa on a very hot day. No air-conditioning. It was so deliciously cool and quiet inside, like a cave, only not dark. A much bigger footprint is required if your exterior walls are 20 inches thick,
but it makes a lot of sense.

    1. When we build in Apalachicola, the house is going to have to be up on stilts because it's on the water. This would probably eliminate the possibility of building out of rammed earth.
      Dammit.

  3. Your nails are scrumptious!! I love that color. I'm glad you had a relaxing day. It's just what you needed. It says a lot that your daughter and her friend invited you with them. You are cherished. As is sweet little AugustšŸ£

    1. Melissa is such a part of our family. I remember well the first night she ever spent with Jessie. And now they are house mates. I adore her.
And I love this color too. Like crushed mulberries with cream.

  4. love the nail color! and your feet look like nicely and well used feet- just how they should look! What's a little dirt anyway? Heat........lordy, we hit 82 today and did yard work all day and I feel like I'm in the Sahara....... it's too late to turn back the damage that has been done, but not too late to continue trying to keep it at bay
    Hugs

    1. God. I just can't work in the heat like I used to. It does me in completely. Hydrate and get some rest tonight, okay?

  7. I'm glad to have caught up on your posts even though I do not always comment. I enjoy your grandkids and family and have realized that if I were more able, I would love to have chickens, a garden and a cool house with thick walls. I love your nail color. I do not think I've ever painted toenails.

  9. clean air and water? temperate temperatures? but but, some billionaire won't get richer! same here with summers. I hate being trapped in the house from about mid-July to mid September and think about what if we had looked further north when we were looking but then there's winter which I like not having. plus were are heavily invested here what with the house and shop and the kids having bought land here to be close to us so... I didn't do diddly squat yesterday either. dug up more of the grass for the new flower bed and that's about it.

  10. in the mountain states of the east coast you trade the heat for the humidity. the word MUGGY gets thrown about a lot.

  11. Have a good time in Apalach! As for climate change, I couldn't agree more, but our business culture dictates that the quest for profit Trumps all else. (See what I did there?)

Love the nail color! Good choice! :)
