When I got to the county line on my walk today, this was hanging from a mailbox support and of course I had to take its picture. The sweet guy who lives in the house there likes to decorate and I appreciate it.
This church was also sporting hearts and I appreciated that too. The sky was that beautiful today.
One of the things that Glen does for me is to make the coffee every night before he goes to bed. Well, he sets it up so that it will brew in the morning. And sometimes he leaves me sweet notes and he left me one this morning for Valentine's. I have those notes (mostly written on index cards) all over this house. Candie, my cleaner, wanted me to somehow display them but I prefer to just tuck them here and there. I probably should at least get a pretty box to put them in.
He had to go to town early-ish to meet with the guy who helps him with his workout routines and so after my walk, I started in on the pavlova. For some reason, I was nervous about it. I've had pavlovas fall into very shallow and gummy circles before and I did not want that to happen today. It's so humid here but today's humidity was only 35% so I figured this was my best shot.
Here's an incredibly wonky picture of what it looked like before it went into the oven.

I swear I was not drunk.
Once I got that squared away and baking, I rolled the ganache for the truffles. They turned out nicely.
Somehow all of this took me most of the day. I also started a loaf of bread to go with our supper.
I do not have great hopes for proper rising but a girl can dream.
And then the man got home and he started bringing in presents and you know what? I have the hardest time receiving gifts. My gifts to him are so simple- sweet things to eat and a card- and he's giving me roses and my favorite espresso and he got lobster tails for our Valentine's Day supper and he brought home some hardware that he thought might work for my pot-hanging wall and I was just so overwhelmed.
I mean, he brought home an entire truck load of compost the other day! What more could a girl want?
I am overwhelmed.

In other news, August has covid and Levon probably does too. Either that or something else. He did not test positive but those boys live in each other's spaces and faces and by the way, Jessie's sick too although she has not tested herself.
Sigh.
Sigh.
Anyway, it's been a sweet Valentine's Day and I even finished my little patch.
Another good example of funky and wonky. Oh well. It's cheerful. And here's how the pavlova turned out. I am happy with it.
I have mixed fruit to go on top.
I haven't answered comments today as I've been a little busy but I'll try to get to that at some point.
Meanwhile- will you be my Valentine? Please?
Love...Ms. Moon
Thank you, I'd love to be your Valentine! What a giving man Mr Moon is, so thoughtful. I think he really likes having you to cherish.
ReplyDeleteHe really is thoughtful.
DeleteMostly. He is, after all, human. But he surely did gift me yesterday.
I would be overjoyed to be your Valentine, and to have you be mine! Your day sounds perfect (save for learning of August's *sick*)....... enjoy your wonderful lobster and bread dinner and pavlova and truffles!
ReplyDeleteSusan M
It was quite a dinner! And quite a day.
DeleteI’ll happily be your valentine every day of the year! ❤️ As for your dear husband- coffe ready to go, and a truckload of compost- just those things say LOVE to me!🥰Your pavlova looks amazing… hope you’re having a lovely evening together! Xo, Rigmor
ReplyDeleteCoffee and compost. That's love for sure.
DeleteThe Pavlova looked better than it turned out. Dammit.
Those roses are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYour pavlova looks amazing!
Lobster? 🦞 The love is overflowing in your home and heart ❤️ this day!
Marcia in Colorado
I know! Lobster! He must really love me, right?
DeleteCompost! I would be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteI am!
DeleteBeautiful roses. What a lovely day for both of you.
ReplyDeleteIt was a damn sweet day.
DeleteI wouldn't mind compost either. My husband explained his lack of card, or anything, with a new twist this year. He said, "I never know what to do because it's the day your dad died." It is the anniversary of my dad's death, but it has also been the anniversary of his death for the past 24 years. It's not new but my husband's excuse was:)
ReplyDeleteMen can be incredibly inventive, can't they? I don't quite get your husband's logic. I mean- would a Valentine's Day card bring up memories of your father's death? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the card that made you think of him.
DeleteI will be your Valentine's 🩷
ReplyDeleteMaybe I could have a bit of pavlova too.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Beautiful roses 🌹
Yes on all of that!
DeleteThose roses are so gorgeous! And I'm excited to soon see your pot hanging wall. I wouldn't put all those notes in a pretty box where they might never be seen again, leave them up all over the place and get a smile each time you read one. The pavlova turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh. The top of the air-fryer was filled with them and they've been tucked behind pictures up on the cabinets and i have cigar boxes full of them. I did get the candy box from Christmas and I'll start putting the older ones in that. But I'll keep the newer ones out.
DeleteLove your postings...!!! Happy Valentine's Day... bear hugs from Kansas City
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anonymous! Kansas City, eh?
Deletedidn't want to be anonymous... more bear hugs
ReplyDeleteOh! Bettina. I love your name.
DeleteWhat a lovely way to spend Valentine's Day. I'm sorry to hear about August and Levon but I hope they all feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI think they'll all be fine. Poor little critters.
DeleteWhat lovely presents....those roses are so beautiful! I hope that Jessie and the boys will soon be OK.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I didn't even mention Valentines Day....it has dropped off over the last few years!
That does happen, Frances, doesn't it? I would be a little sad is we didn't celebrate at all but a nice meal and cards would be enough for me.
DeleteI will definitely be your Valentine. Get the coffee brewing; I’m on my way (better if you came here) for truffles and Pavlova!
ReplyDeleteOkay, yeah. Your balcony. I'll bring my needles, thread, and patching fabrics.
DeleteYou and Mr. Moon gave each other lovely gifts for Valentine's Day. So sweet.
ReplyDeleteI will be your Valentine too! Will you be mine? xoxo
Yes, Ellen. I will!
DeleteDefinitely YES! You may be the most be-Valentined woman in history. — elf
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Elizabeth Taylor probably has me beat. But I am surely lucky.
DeleteHave you tried sitting your bowl of dough on a heating pad? I would love to be your Valentine for a day. Your sweets look yummy.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I do, Tressa! I wrap a towel around a heating pad and set the bowl on that.
DeleteYour skills are beyond mine. I can't even make a biscuit rise.
DeleteYour V-Day celebration sounds pretty perfect to me. As a gardener, the compost alone was ideal. Hopefully Levon, August and Jessie feel better soon. Happy belated V-Day!
ReplyDeleteAnd if he shovels the compost himself...well, that's the best ever.
DeleteBeautiful roses, and I'd have appreciated a lorry load of compost! I was bought a dahlia tuber, so something to look forward to in the summer.
ReplyDeleteThat will be pretty, Chris! I like that present! I wish dahlias grew here.
DeleteI love the patch! I struggle with gifts too, so I know what you mean. I try to remind myself that they please the person giving them, too -- that takes away some of the pressure I feel to respond appropriately. :)
