Where Does The Time Go?

Here's what Maggie's name blanket looked like. I wasn't finished with that one but I was close.

August's looked like this.

And here's Gibson's.

Basically, it's just a warm and cozy blanket, very simply made, with the child's name on it that in theory they can keep forever.
If they want.
I do believe that all of my children still have theirs. I remember when I made Hank's and May's, I made them matching nightgowns or pajamas. That was when I was still all homemakery and shit.

I have done almost nothing today but it has taken me all day to do it. I swear. First thing I had to cross off my list was getting in touch with my insurance company because the new card they sent me has some doctor listed on it as my primary care physician that I've never even heard of. I had called before on December 4th, right after we got our new cards and I talked to the sweetest woman who promised me that she would take care of the issue and would call me back THAT VERY DAY to let me know she'd done it.
She even told me that she was "sincerely sorry from the bottom of my heart," that this trouble had happened.
Huh.
I have to say that this company has been excellent in all other regards. Hell, I'll tell you their name- it's United Health Care and it's offered by AARP which of course is bringing the Rolling Stones to a venue near you next year! So I've been a little surprised that this problem came up in the first place and was not dealt with in a timely matter.
However, the woman I spoke with today (and you can always speak to a representative fairly quickly) just got it done. Supposedly. Now we shall see if I get a new card updated with my true PCP- my beloved Dr. Zorn.

But making calls like this are very stressful for me. So I was glad to get that done.

Then I unwrapped the fruit cakes and re-wrapped them with more rum-soaked cheese cloth and then swaddled them tightly again in their aluminum foil wrappings. This wasn't too stressful although I have to tell you that I'm not any good at making things look tidy and these cakes now look like some sort of lab experiment from the early nineteenth century or maybe, extra parts from The Mummy
Whatever. They have gotten a little more of that precious preservative and flavoring- the spiced rum- and will be even better by Christmas.

After that, I got some things ready to mail that I've been meaning to do for about a month, and that IS stressful. Don't ask me why. It may have something to do with me feeling like whatever I mail looks like it was packed by a four-year old and also, I always feel like what I'm mailing is vastly inferior to anything that anyone sends me.
And those are true facts. So. I am not just being all whack here.
Still, something is better than nothing and now that is done.

The biggest news around here (and it's not good news) is that May and Michael have covid. They have taken the most precautions of anyone I know but May does work with the public five days a week so I suppose it was inevitable. We are all hoping they have very light cases and coast through them with minimal pain and symptoms.
The group text in which May announced this news was filled with offers of groceries and help from all the family along with love and wishes of swift recovery.
However.
Hank's text, in my honest opinion, gets the Best Text Ever Written Award.

Could I love my family any more?
I do not think so.
Could I be any luckier?
Again...no.

Be well, y'all. If I could, I would bless everyone with a family wherein if someone gets sick, offers of everything from a small or large hat to a tiger bomb to soft, soft blankets pour in for comfort and restoration of health.
Also- Hank- I see what you did there with the cats and books. Jo and Beth. I love you so.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. There used to be a speaker on WOR radio doing commercials for Tiger Balm which she pronounced tagga bomb!
Sorry about the covid, let's hope it's mild.

    1. "Tagga Bomb!" I am going to use that pronunciation from here on out.

  4. We have had United Health Care as our supplementary insurance as a dirt cheap (if he dies first, I pay a very affordable double the current rate; if I go first his payments drop to zero - I continue to watch my back) supplement to Medicare through the employee retirement system of Texas, and they’ve been fabulous UNTIL John needed an extended nursing home stay after an accident and they turned into a bureaucratic nightmare. Our beautiful daughter, who is part pit bull when it comes to matters of justice, is battling them in a way wondrous to see, and she might even pull off a win and a refund. Margaret

    1. And yes, all the reps she and we have spoken to have been lovely.

    2. Damn. I am so sorry to hear that UHC was so horrible with the extended care situation. I do not like hearing that. I hope your daughter can straighten them out.

  6. Please ask Hank if he's still offering the fun drugs. (Just kidding!) That is a funny text. I consider it a win if I get an English speaking person. There are nuances in health care that are hard to convey to the non English. Carol

    1. Some of the representatives I have talked do sound like they're American and some don't but their English has been as good, if not better, than mine.
Hank has everything! And if he doesn't, he'll figure out how to get it although I do not think fun drugs have been on his list for a very long time.

  7. Ugh. Covid got us too over here. Rob, AGAIN. So far, Jonah and I are negative but that seems iffy to last. Hope May and Michael are well soon!

    1. Oh no. That truly sucks. I can't believe that Glen and I haven't gotten it yet. I hope Rob gets over this bout fast and that you and Jonah don't get it at all.

  8. I have had United Health Care for two years. A few glitches. An ER visit on a road trip. Had to call four times. And every time got an "advocate" who knew nothing---had no records----about my previous calls, so had to go through whole story repeatedly. Very frustrating. But, I was forced to leave UHC as of January coming. My doctor is fantastic. His office informed me in Sept/Oct that UHC has refused to renew their contract. The current one ends on June 30, 2024. So I would have been forced to find another doctor. Not happening! I do hope something similar didn't happen for you.

    1. Oh Lord. Me too. I am so sorry they dropped your doctor. I completely understand. I'd have to change insurance too, if they did that to mine.

  9. Ok, Hank is hilarious!!! I think a pocket square is a great covid remedy…

  10. That is the sweetest message: Name it and I'll bring it. Hope they only have a light case and all is well very soon.

    1. That Hank. Yes. What would we do without him to keep us amused and to hold all the babies?

  12. Hank IS the magic cure. You definitely are lucky to have a family like that. Those name blankets are wonderful... even it means you're all homemakery and shit. I also hate making those phone calls for some reason and consider them major accomplishments.

    1. I am still all homemakery and shit, to be honest, but not as intensely as I used to be.
There are so many silly things that cause me huge anxiety these days. And making phone calls to almost anyone is a big one.

  13. Here's hoping May and Michael get better soon. Honestly, I had just a bad cold when I got the killer lurgy! And I just LOVE those blankies! Makes me think I need to do one for my little grandson!

    1. Yes! You should make one for your little grandson. I generally wait until they're old enough to recognize their name. Of course Levon is well past that benchmark.

  15. we have the same insurance and I have no complaints. so far they have covered everything we have required for very little out of pocket. sorry to hear about May and MIchael. we have so far avoided covid and I want to keep it that way although some stupid woman who reportedly has covid showed up at SHARE yesterday to pick up food. doubly glad I work in the back. I need to get three small boxes to send pecans out.

    1. Ellen! I planted some of your seeds (just a few) and they are starting to come up! I am so thrilled!
Seems like except for extended care situations, everyone chiming in here about UHC seems pretty happy with it.

  16. Having just recovered from Covid, I hope May and Micheal get well soon. I recommend asking their doc about an anti-viral med as I thought that really helped. Also, Cepacol cough drops, a humidifier in the bedroom, and a decongestant were all helpful!
Your family is so great, Mary. And your day was busy enough so you don't have to feel like you are not getting things done because you ARE!

    1. Yes, Michael did get anti-viral meds from his doctor and was encouraging May to call her doctor and get some too. I hope she has. Thanks for the other suggestions. I'm so glad you've recovered.

  17. And you have destined us to love them too... each and every one. Your family is just the best! Hank is such a HOOT! Humor can definitely help heal you. Sending healing vibes to May and Michael, may all be well.
We too have United Health and have been pleased. In April my husband had a ketoacidosis event which landed him in the hospital for 6 days, 4 of which were in ICU, only out of pocket $100. But my daughter works in health care, occupational therapy, and she said UHC is notorious for being shitty when it comes to rehab and long term care. Will kick you out in a heartbeat, even against doctors orders. Health care in America is dysfunctional at best and quite often down right dangerous. But what 'cha gonna do?

Everyone who's posted here about their experience with UHC has said similar things. Hell. I guess there is just no perfect solution when it comes to insurance companies, is there?
