SO Many Pictures

The darling mermaid that Hank and Rachel gave me, now hanging on the back porch screen door.

Today I feel as if I've come back to myself. It's been good. It was a Candie day and so I did a little straightening and tidying so that she could work more easily and I got all of the wrapping paper and bows and ribbons put back upstairs and took all of the boxes and paper stuff that we burn out to the burn pile so they weren't clogging up the pantry anymore.
I also went through a whole bunch of seeds that had been in a basket in the old shelf-thing that my mixer was on in preparation for getting the new tea cart set up. I had so many seeds that were probably fine but honestly- it was time to let some of them go.
Before the tea cart could be actually set up, Mr. Moon decided that one of the legs needed straightening. So he took it back out to the garage and when I went to check on his progress, this was going on.

He had his level out and was going to make sure that all of the legs were straight and true and THEN, he used ArmorAll on the wheels to make sure they were clean and newly blackened.
I swear.

And this is what it looks like in the kitchen.

For now, anyway. There may be some changes as time goes on but for now, I am happy with that. Isn't it just the prettiest? The bowls on the bottom shelf are my utility bowls- the ones I use to wash vegetables in and things like that. My "real" bowls are kept in the glass-front cabinet to the right of where the tea cart is. I love bowls and I have a lot of them and they are one of the things that if I see a beautiful example of in a thrift store, I will buy. I do not care if I have too many. I use them all. I very much like being rich in bowls.
And now I am rich in a tea cart which has perfectly straight legs and high gloss red shelves.

I had a very nice exchange with Big Head Cat today. I went outside to dump my compost and he was there, hanging out. That's where we always see him. When I got close, he started to bolt, but then I began talking to him.
"Hey Biggie Head! How 'ya doin'? What's going on? You sure are a pretty boy."
And he just stood and stared at me and then he began answering as cats do. When I would pause, he would offer his contribution to the conversation. "Browwwwlll, browwwlll," and so forth.
I told him that he was welcome to hang out here. I think my next door neighbor must be feeding him. I wonder what his story is. He's absolutely not feral and he is not skinny in the least but where did he come from? Did someone dump him? Did he walk over from the dump where quite a few cats live?
I have no idea but I like his boldness, his polite participation in conversation. I told Glen that perhaps he could move in and teach some manners to Maurice and Jack when it comes to getting along.
I'm pretty sure that's a fantasy.

I picked camellias. The one bush in the yard that was here when we moved in is blooming. It has two different colors of blooms on it.

This is not that unusual and is caused by either a virus or a mutation. Whatever is causing this one hasn't seemed to hurt the bush. I have to admit that up until this very day, I have not been overly fond of this camellia but when I was taking these pictures I finally truly looked at the way the inner petals furl so beautifully and now I love them! It's like, "Where have you been all my life?"
Oh yeah. In my front yard.
I picked some of the backyard camellias too. Here they are.

While I was going through seeds, I found a package of carrot seeds that I'd bought and never opened. They were embedded in a sort of very lightweight paper strip and I decided that I would indeed plant those today. And I did. They are the multi-colored heirlooms I love so much.

Here's what the garden looks like these days.

It is such a joy to me.

I picked greens for a salad tonight and also these.

That carrot was really too small to pick but I could not help myself. And isn't that a lovely turnip? They will go into the salad tonight too.

And finally, I played around a little bit, trying out the lamp May gave me in different places. For right now, I think it is going on the sideboard in the dining room.

I really love that lamp and the lampshade that May picked out.

I had to give it its own Pink Perfections.

Jessie sent me a picture of August cuddled up in the extremely soft and cozy throw I gave all the kids for Christmas this year.

No. It is not real fur but I swear to you- it is the softest thing you could ever touch.

I hear that Owen woke up last night freezing, and obviously running a temperature. He still had a fever this morning.
My poor darling boy. I am waiting for an update on that situation.

Meanwhile, as you can tell, I am doing fine. Christmas is over and mostly all that's left are the gifts and cookies.
Not so bad.

Love...Ms. Moon

Post Christmas is a wonderful time. I do hope Owen is on the mend soon. Not fair being crook at this time of year.

    1. Yes! "If something is worth doing, it's worth doing right!"
To which I reply, "Not always."
I think you're right about the mutation thing. It's a cool camellia. Sorry it took me so long to realize that.
Yep. That cat will stop and talk to you.

  6. That blue lamp is a gem. And good Mr. M took his tools to the kitchen cart. Now it won't wobble and rattle the goods it holds. Hope Owen mends soon!

  8. Thank god it's over. Who decided Christmas was a good thing?

The red cart is gorgeous. I'm not jealous at all, even though I would have no place to put it.

I'm glad you're feeling better. Me too.

      Hahaha!
Mr. Moon really beautified the cart but I liked it before he did that.
Let us celebrate that xmas is over.

  9. Dearest Mary-I can't believe you live in an alternate reality from me. The PNW is gloom and rain and 40 degrees. I have my seed catalogue but planting is way off in the distance. I plunged in the lake two days ago and stayed there until I couldn't feel my feet. Took 3 hours to get worm but boy my immune system is um, healthy. I love you always. Beth

I love you always too, darling woman.

  11. I love your new tea cart -- and I'm wondering why you call it a tea cart? I haven't been by to visit in some time, so I might have missed your explanation. I'll be scrolling back and through to catch up. Merry Day After Christmas to you. Oh, and is it early for camellias to be blooming there? Our neighbor has some, but they haven't started yet.

    1. Well, when I first started posting about it when I saw it in Monticello months ago, I called it a "thingee". And some of the commenters said it was a tea cart. So, I call it that. It is a thing of beauty in my opinion.
Nope on the camellia blooming. They're always blooming this time of year. Here, at least. They are our winter's glory for sure.

  12. I love the cosy throws and that gorgeous blue lamp! your camellias are the prettiest and that double coloured bush has stunning blooms, like doubles or triples all rolled into one blossom. The kitchen cart looks perfect. I like bowls too and would have more if I had more space.

    1. Isn't that lamp just the prettiest thing? And that camellia is too. I really need to do some research and see if I can figure out what its name is.
Bowls are what separate us from the animals, I think. I love bowls, baskets, and bags. I think it's a womb thing.

  13. There is a question above about why you call it a tea " cart"...I assumed that is what they are termed in US......here in UK we would call it a tea trolley! Whatever you call it I love it. Beautiful flowers too. Hope that Owen will soon be feeling better.

    1. Our fall and winter garden is the best garden here. The things planted in it are frost-hardy. Some of the greens are supposedly sweeter after a freeze. Could be.

  16. Those camelias are stunning. We tried camelias several times in San Diego and they kept getting overrun by bugs until we gave up. Very disappointing. I’ll enjoy yours! So glad you’re on the upswing. I’m in a bit of a slump at the moment but it will pass. Your photos and family help. That tea cart is wonderful!

    1. One of the best things about living in N. Florida is that we can grow camellias like crazy here. I never intended to actually LIVE here and moved here by accident, sort of, but here I am and the camellias are part of the reason why.
I am so sorry you're in a slump. I know, I know, I know. Yes. It will pass. Meanwhile, be good to yourself.

  17. Such a pleasant blogpost. Calm, contented and coloured with domestic matters in these sometimes strange days between Christmas and New Year. August appears to be reading a book titled "Dog Man". I wonder which politician it is about. Maybe it's part of a series including "Pig Man", "Lizard Man", "Donkey Man" and "Bullshit Man".

I will try to find "Bullshit Man" for August to read next. Perhaps you should write it! Would it be a thinly disguised tell-all about the Orange Intestine?

  19. The first Camilla picture was such a beauty and then the picture of the Pink Perfection knocked my socks off. I'm gobsmacked by your Pink Perfections every year. I love your blog for lots of reasons, but would you be offended to learn that my most-est favorite part is your Camillas?

Hope Owen is feeling better soon. That poor boy. No one should have to spend one precious moment of winter break with a nasty bug of one variety or another.

I agree with you about Owen. I hope he gets better soon and I hope the rest of the family doesn't get it.

  20. Oh those camellias are so pretty. I definitely want to get another one. the one I have and have had for three years now is very small and doesn't seem to have grown a bit, has had white fly so bad I couldn't get rid of it but last winter's days in the 20s did and all those leaves fell off but only two blooms last year and none this year.

love the cart. love the mermaid.

    1. I always say that camellias are not an immediate answer to your landscaping needs. They are SLOW growers. But the really old ones can be as big as small trees.
Maybe you should try a new one. Doesn't sound like the one you have is very happy.

  22. That camellia is a marvel. It reminds me of a peony, so dense in petals.

Mr. Moon is a marvel too! How many of us would have just said of the tea cart, "It's good enough," and lived with it? I certainly would have. Which is why all my stuff is creaky and wobbly. LOL

Glad you're feeling more back to normal, in your house and garden.
