What's It All Mean, Mr. Natural? Part XXXVII

As you can see, Miss Annie is doing quite well. She is giving me a sort of wild side-eye in that picture but due to the placement of a chicken's eyes they always give us the side-eye and due to the fact that they are tiny dinosaurs, they generally have a wildish look to them so that is not an unusual way for her to observe me. I am sure that she is more than grateful that I have stopped taking her off the roost at night to bring her in the house and do strange things to her.

Perhaps I have learned my lesson about interfering with my chickens because I really have no idea what I'm doing. I did once heal up a hen's head wound, caused by the other chickens pecking her down to the bone, with golden seal and neosporin but that is the extent of what I am truly qualified to do and in that case, the problem was quite obvious, the remedy noninvasive.

I took a real walk today, or at least what I call a real walk which I'm sure some people would think of as a minor stroll. When I say "real walk" I mean three miles at least and that I did. I walked down to the county line and kept on going for awhile, came back the same way and then continued on down to the site of the FDG. I am not sure why I keep going back there. Perhaps merely to fuel my indignation. My neighbor called me again today and she, too, is fired up. She sent me the links to the Jefferson County Land Use Codes which of course I am not going to read entirely through. Do I look like the hero in a John Grisham novel? No. I do not. My neighbor's education, training, and experience provides her with a fine ability to do research which she loves doing. My education, training, and experience provide me with a fine ability to bitch about shit which I also love doing. Generally in a useless way.
Anyway, despite the fact that it has not rained in two weeks, the big pool of water on the property is only getting bigger as the water drains from the standing water just south of it. As my neighbor pointed out, there is a culvert which goes under the road a few feet away which would indicate that at least the road people knew that the land was apt to flood and needed some sort of method to drain the water when we get lots of rain.
Oh, it's just a damn mess. I'll shut up. For now.

Here's something pretty!

This is just a small portion of the roses growing on the fence of a house a few doors down and across the street. A man named Mr. Kinsey used to live there but he has since died. Still, his roses bloom.

Aren't they just beautiful?
I remember when we first moved here and I was out in the front yard doing something, and he walked by on his way to Israel's store which is now and has been for quite a while, out of business. Mr. Kinsey stopped to talk to me, introduce himself. He told me his name and age, which I can't remember but I'm pretty sure it was up there somewhere in the eighties. He was quite proud of that fact and the fact that he still liked to go dancing. He also told me that my yard would look nice if I got some grass growing in it. Even at that stage of ownership here I knew that grass would never grow in that part of the yard due to the lack of sunshine. I told him that it would make more sense for me to just rake the yard's dirt every day like ladies in parts of Africa do, to make everything tidy and neat. I do not think he was impressed.
Eighteen years gone by since then. And yet, the roses still bloom.
And I still do not have grass in the front yard.

Here's another picture from my walk.

Now this one just cracks me up. I respect the fact that the church requires masks but somehow the contrast between the two expressed thoughts makes me giggle.

I spent at least an hour today looking for a new book to listen to. I had downloaded an extremely tacky but not badly written book that had some interesting aspects to it but after awhile, the sex just got to me and not in a good way so I returned it. I simply could not listen to another minute about the guy's "hair like silken flames" or the woman's throbbing...
You get it.
I finally selected "True Grit" to listen to. I have never read the book but recently listened to another of the author's novels, "The Dog of the South." Charles Portis. I think he may be rather underrated as a writer and so far I am enjoying "True Grit" although I know that I will visualize John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn and I'd rather not have that image in my head. I've never liked John Wayne as an actor and will do almost anything to avoid watching him play any role but of course, when the original movie came out everyone watched it, me included. After I listen to the book, I plan on watching the 2010 Coen Brothers' version which I have never seen.

Boy do I live an interesting life.

I'm pretty excited that D.J. Orange Intestine has been found in contempt for refusing to submit documents in an investigation concerning his finances. Let us all take a moment of silence to give thanks to New York Attorney General, Letitia James.
Also I see that Elon Musk has bought Twitter. This is beyond my ability to truly understand. I do not have Twitter and I do not exactly get the point of it but the fact that the world's richest person is going to be in control of something so huge scares me to death.

With every day that goes by in this crazy, insane world, I am more and more grateful that I have this tiny spot in Lloyd to hide in. And also, if you want to know the truth- that I will be dead before the world completely implodes.

I gotta go make supper.

Love...Ms. Moon

    1. I heard an English comedian call Trump the "Orange Intestine" with the accent on the TINE part of the word and so far, it is my favorite name for the man. Thank you for liking my chicken picture.

  2. Those roses remind me of apple blossoms ... I believe they are an old rose and should be quite fragrant!!
So glad Annie is doing so well and she's probably glad you aren't sticking fingers and whatnot up her poor little butt!

    1. They have a light fragrance, very sweet.
Annie did not look good this morning but looks better now. And please believe me- I stuck nothing but a gloved finger up her butt!

  3. The rose is gorgeous and Annie looks pretty perky. Three miles is for sure a "real walk"!

  4. I think those kind of unformed roses are called floribunda. They were prolific in the field along the road my house was one. The other side of the road was a sand field, owned by a construction company. Also prolific blackberry ground.

    1. I did my plant ID app on this one and it called it a "multiflora" rose which, upon googling, I see only means a type of rose which can be invasive which has many flowers. Thus- multiflora. Supposedly they can take over a field. As can blackberries! But what lovely invasives!

  6. The state of the we world overwhelms me sometimes and so I pull in my perspective and make my world small. I am beyond frustrated that so many are suffering not a single consequence for their actions. Leticia James at least is trying to change that. Merrick Garland not so much.

    1. Just being out among people is so overwhelming to me. I come home exhausted.

  7. Those pink roses look like the Alberta wild rose. Do they smell good? Ours do, they smell like real roses.

Annie looks well and is probably relieved you aren't interfering with her anymore:)

As for bullshit in the world, it continues on. Trump will be trump until he dies and then all the money in the world won't make a bit of difference to him. Same with Musk.

    1. This rose does not have a powerful scent, but it is sweet. Annie is keeping up with the flock and that is the best sign, I think.
You are so absolutely correct about the money and these rich, insane, powerful men. In some ways, I feel sorry for them.

  8. boys with too much money, boys with too much ammo, boys with too much ego and testosterone or whatever makes them so effin crazy and then Leticia comes to save the day. I don't know but there is some sort of message in that. Smash the Patriarchy comes to mind.
The roses are a joy to see! Our wild roses look similar but will not be more than a thought until summer .

    1. Woman- I had an epiphany the other day concerning the patriarchy and it blew my mind. I'm still thinking about it. Why has it taken me all of these years to finally start seeing what has always been right in front of me? I do not know.
I hope your roses come soon.

  9. I'm considering my Twitter alternative options. If it becomes fee based, I may not be able to stay. I'm looking at ways of keeping up with favorite accounts there.

    1. Do you really think he'll make it fee-based? I guess he sure can if he actually gets approved and all of that. So weird.

  10. I enjoy Twitter as somewhere to hear other people's opinions about " things",( large and small ). Also there are many funny items/pictures on there and clever people making amusing remarks. I have never actually put anything on there myself.

    1. I think I would probably enjoy Twitter and therein lies the problem- I do not need any more social media to sap my time, no matter how good.

  11. Mr. Kinsey would probably be happy to know his roses have persevered. And I'm sure Miss Annie will be giving you the side-eye for a while now, knowing what you're capable of!

I'm surprised that the church is still requiring masks. That seems to be bucking the trend in Florida (and the UK too).

I avoid Twitter entirely so I won't be personally affected by Mr. Musk's purchase, except to the degree that it has the potential to totally destabilize Western governments.

    1. I have found, around here at least, that predominately Black churches are far more apt to require masks than the white ones are. This does not surprise me.
Your last sentence made me laugh and sort of want to cry, both.

  12. Those roses certainly are very pretty and Annie seems to be doing well too. I prefer to read the books for myself rather than listen to them.

    1. I listen to books all day as I walk or work in the yard or house. It is sort of a dream come true for me as I always wanted to be able to read and do other things at the same time. At night, I generally get in bed an hour early to read with my eyes.

  13. I wonder if Anne's warm baths in epsom salts helped more than you know. Epsom salts are a wonder on human ailments. I can't help but think they'd helps whatever ails a chicken--even if mere mortals don't exactly know what ails them.

  14. So you won't be chaining yourself to the construction equipment working on the FDG site? Maybe it will flood so much they won't be able to build there.
Pretty roses to remember Mr. Kinsey.
I deactivated my Twitter account today. I never posted, only read what showed up in my email but I don't need it.

    1. No. I will not be chaining myself to construction equipment. I damn sure wish we'd get a good rain so that we can see exactly what that lot's going to look like after one.
I don't blame you for deactivating your Twitter account. I wonder how many people did that.

  16. So glad Annie doing better! And Mr Kinseys roses are lovely for the eye to behold....though my thought is that those single floribunda's (I think) don't usually have much smell? And...3 miles is a darned good walk, in my book! Glad your neighbor is on the FDG bandwagon....... hopeful that more will be brought to light on that front

    1. I'm glad that Annie is doing better too. Thank you, Susan. Mr. Kinsey's roses are certainly a delight to the neighborhood. These roses do have a light fragrance.
I don't have any idea how many people have tried to get answers to exactly HOW a Dollar General is being built on a wet lot. I hope it's not just the two of us. I think others may have some fairly strong feelings too.

  17. Glad to see Annie is still hanging in there. We haven't had rain for weeks and really need some. We finally got maybe a half inch and one of the locals posted on FB...thank you Lord. I notice she didn't blame the 'Lord' for the drought. Or say anything about the 'Lord' not sending rain before. And those pink roses are a beauty.
