Here are the two little pill bugs who are staying with us tonight. They've had a terrific day, mostly doing things with their grandfather. They helped him clean up his truck among other things.
They're a good team.
Boppy also drove them to town with him when he needed to get some plans copied at Office Depot, hoping that Levon would take a nap on the way home and he did. When they got home, Levon slept in the car in the shade by the kitchen and August and Mr. Moon played a rousing game of Go Fish.

All I've really done is read them a few books and make their lunches. We had a delicious meal of hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and pineapple slices. Well, Levon had a peanut butter and honey and raisin sandwich instead of a hot dog.
In my defense, the hot dogs were the good kind and I made the mac and cheese from scratch and the sauce had NUTRITIONAL YEAST in it so you know it was healthy.

Right now the boys are watching some movie about an alien with Steve Martin voicing the main character. I had no idea Steve Martin did an animated movie. But obviously, he has. I've got chicken and carrots (not the anatomically correct one) and celery and onions simmering to make chicken and dumplings. I'll add some green beans and that will be supper-in-a-bowl. I think Mr. Moon is feeling somewhat guilty because he's leaving tomorrow so he's been really helping with the boys but honestly, that's how those little fellas prefer it. When they got here, they raced right past me and went immediately to find him. He's mowing now while the the kids are zoned in completely to the TV. He better come in soon because it's about time to make me a martini.
Jessie and Vergil were, if possible, even more excited than the boys were this morning when they dropped them off. They were going to head to St. George for lunch and beach time and then go into Apalach and check in to their room.
And it would seem that the plan went well.
And it would seem that the plan went well.
There's Vergil, about to attack some oysters at the beach bar and restaurant that I used to take Jessie and Lily to when they were littles and we'd spend our summers in a tiny cement apartment consisting of two rooms right across the street from the Gulf. We didn't really go out very often, but once in awhile we'd head down there and they'd drink a Sprite and I'd have a margarita at sunset time.
Good times. Good memories.
Good times. Good memories.
When they were about to leave this morning, Vergil said to me, "Isn't Jessie beautiful?"
"Yes," I said. "And so are you."
"Yes," I said. "And so are you."
The best part of this post is you in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Now I too could spy and enjoy the smiling Ms Moon
DeleteI knew there was something about that picture that was off. Dang.
DeleteIt looks like they're relaxing and having a wonderful time, as they should. We have Jack, took him to meet his brother this morning and then went to West Edmonton Mall. OMG, I hate that place, so loud and way too many people. Jack has been kinda awful today too, lots of testing boundaries, which I find he does a lot more when he spends time with his mom. Sigh. I'm just tired.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Easter.
Oh god. As if a child his age doesn't already test enough boundaries...
DeleteI haven't been to a mall in years and years. You deserve an award for going there if you ask me.
Lovely people having a lovely time!
ReplyDeleteI think Jessie and Vergil are really having a good time. Their boys are too.
DeleteWhat a good day with family. You guys really know how to do it. I hadn't noticed your reflection, but went back to see. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI honestly did NOT mean to do that.
Deletehadn't noticed your mirror reflection either until I went back! sounds like a wonderful day for all, all around. May Jessie and Virgil have a much needed celebratory weekend anniversary!
ReplyDeleteSusan M
MUCH NEEDED! Especially after that latest bout of illness.
DeleteHomemade mac and cheese sounds wonderful. Enjoy your boys!
ReplyDeleteWe did!
DeleteA lovely recap of your very good day.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pretty wild sleep-over.
DeleteWould you mind sharing your chicken and dumplings recipe? I've only started making that in the last year and really like my recipe but am always looking to tweak and improve with new ideas.
ReplyDeleteJill- I will do that soon. It's very simple. And remember- I don't use measurements so... That might be a problem.
DeleteEvery time I read about your dumplings I remind myself that I AM going to have chicken and dumpling soup at least once this coming winter. Jessie and Vergil look so happy having time away together.
ReplyDeleteMy chicken and dumplings are sort of soupy. But I don't add any thickening to the broth.
DeleteThat's a lovely picture of Vergil - taken by Jessie I presume. But why is there a spade stuck to the back of his head?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that Jessie must have taken it. I believe you're seeing a light fixture there.
DeleteI love every part of this. Levon has now well and truly entered little boyhood. And yes, Jessie is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHe has. And oh, my heart!
DeleteMary in the mirror! Perfect! Why do you have scissors hanging on the wall?
ReplyDeleteGlad you are all having a good time!
Those are some sort of old shears we found in the yard here. Rusted and ruined. I just hung them up there. We find a lot of things in this yard.
DeleteThose little boys are heartbreakingly beautiful. So lucky they have each other. Thank you sweet Mary for raising a bunch of righteous humans. XX
ReplyDeleteOh, they pretty much arrived as righteous humans. I just didn't beat it out of them, I guess. But thank you, Beth.
DeleteYou're right, Jessie and Vergil really are a beautiful couple!
ReplyDeleteAnd they have made beautiful babies.
DeleteI can see you in the mirror in that lovely photo of the Go Fish Game.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they got a little break in Apalach (where I still have never been!) and yes, as Bohemian said above, I noticed your little self-portrait. :)
