The Birthdays Continue!

Guess what today is?
It is August Glinden's sixth birthday! He is now well and truly six years old. The picture above is what he looked like today. Here is what he looked like six years ago.

He's changed a bit.

I called their house this morning and August barely wanted to discuss his birthday. Or anything. He was busy doing his Spanish school work. Also, he knew they were going to go to a movie this afternoon. A real movie in a real movie theater!
"Paw Patrol."
God bless the parents who take their children to wretched children's movies.
Levon had never been to the movie theater so this was a big deal. Jessie sent me pictures.

A movie, popcorn, and cotton candy! Jessie said there were only four other people in the whole theater so she felt pretty safe, exposure-wise. By the end of the movie, both boys were in one seat which Jessie reported was big enough for them to be cozy and comfy.

After the movie they came out here for a visit and I was so glad to see them. I gave August the present we got him which he already knew he was getting. It was a huge set of Lincoln Logs. He immediately toted the bucket into the Glen Den and built this.

Sorry about the lousy picture. I did not feel like getting down on the floor to take it. So I didn't.

Boppy came home about this time and they all took golf cart and go-cart rides. Big fun. I had made a banana bread and everyone had a piece of that. I read the boys a few books including one that August found that I have no recollection of owning and plan to throw out. It's a Yo Gabba Gabba book and, despite its vast lack of any literary redemption, elicited the best moment of the day. There's a part where one of the bizarre creatures asks, "Do you want to be one of our friends?" and after I read that August said, "I don't think so."
He's real sassy now that he's six.

So that was all very fun and Lily also came by today after work and before she had to pick up the children. We got to visit awhile and I gave her the birthday present we got her which was a very nice food processor because she needed one and I use mine all the time and I know she'll use hers.

Besides all of that, I've taken it very easy today. I finished watching "The Family Tree" and am so very, very sad that there was only one season. Just a charming show. Excellent writing, stellar cast. Wicked funny in that Christopher Guest sort of way. He was one of the creators. With each episode I was delighted to see more actors whom I know and love, from Ed Begley, Jr. to Graham Greene who played Kicking Bird in "Dances With Wolves" and whom I adore. And I was introduced to new (to me) actors who were fabulous. The series is all about family and acceptance and it's just sweet.
So yes. Highly recommend. Thank you, May. It's like you know me.

It's been a very fine day all around and I've been thinking about August's birth today, just as two day's ago I was thinking of Lily's and three days ago I was thinking of Owen's. Birth Days are the very best days, aren't they? If you want to read about August's birth, the link is HERE.

Last night's soup and bread were so good that we're going to do it again tonight. That soup would sustain life all by itself and if you add in the bread it's...well. Royal.

All right. Happy birthday, August! Here's to your sassy, six-year old self. And happy Birth Day to Jessie and Vergil who brought that boy into the world just the way I wish that all babies could be born with so much love and so much strength and so much joy.

Love, love, love...MerMer, aka Ms. Moon

  1. First time theater photo is so perfect. It could be an ad to get folks to go back to real movie theaters. Not me- other folks.
    Another lovely Mary day.

    1. I know! When Jessie sent those pictures I said, "I knew this was exactly what they would look like!" Jessie said he forgot to eat his snacks!

  5. That seat sharing picture is wonderful. I'm surmising they started out on opposite sides of her, then Levon moved in with August, his big brother who will keep him safe if required, and warm and comfortable in a big, big movie theater. Look at Levon's eyes and his concentration. August is a bit more blasé. He knows his way around these places.

    1. I think you are probably right about the seating. And yes- August had seen a movie at least once before in the theater so he was all cool about it.

  6. You have a lot of birthdays this time of year. The boys look quite happy to be sitting, eating their snacks, watching a movie.

Jack is with us for a few nights which is lovely. His mom is taking him to Victoria for six days. I can't imagine that going very well.

I'm having some problems with my uterus which took me to the doc today. An ultrasound tomorrow, and I guess we'll have a better idea of what's going on. The factory's closed but it's still kicking up a fuss.

    1. What is Gracie going to do in Victoria? Does she have family there?
I am so sorry you're having problems. Dang, lady. I hope there's an easy fix.

    2. Some friend of Gracie's bought her two tickets out there, so she's going.

Those boys loved the movie. Jessie loved watching them love it.

  9. I am also thinking about birthdays......mine is on Sunday, and just heard that my son's fiancee is having an elective caesarian on 8th, a week before the due date as baby is breech .They don't know if it is a girl or a boy, so exciting time all round. I am on call to help with the " big grands"...11 and 9. Hoping that my jury service will finish today. It has been nearly 2 weeks on one case and we spent half a day yesterday " deliberating". I want my life back and getting tired of having to climb 72 steps every time we have to go into the court room.....about 3 times a day! The lifts are still not working after 2 weeks! Can't be that difficult to mend a lift!!

    1. That jury duty is going on way too long. I know you're ready to get your life back! And seventy-two steps three times a day! Yes. They need to fix that lift.
Congratulations to the soon-to-be-born grandbaby! Hurray! Joy.

    2. The jury spent all day yesterday discussing ( and 4 times up and down those damn stairs, once just for 2 minutes in the courtroom!!). And.....I have to go back today again for more discussing, and hopefully a decision. Most of us made a decision last week really, but a couple of them need to look at every tiny bit of evidence in great detail.....laudable that they are doing so to be "sure", but it is taking a long time. Husband is off today for a few days, so I also have to take the dog to pals to be looked after. Luckily M has offered to drive me to the station as P has been doing! Oh, and it is raining!

  10. Happy Birthday to August and Lily and the rest of the tribe celebrating in recent weeks. FiL's bday was also yesterday but he has about 9 decades on August. DH is out west celebrating with him--hasn't seen him in over two years, so glad he could be there.

    1. I'm glad your husband could get out to see his father. Two years is a long time not to see someone in their nineties!

  11. I love that the boys could both fit into a single theater seat. That's awesome. August will remember this movie forever, probably, just the way I remember all the terrible movies I went to as a child.

    1. Well, those are Big American Butt movie seats so the boys easily fit into one. They're both skinny assed boys. When Glen and I were in Vero last week we drove by the old movie theater downtown and I remembered vividly seeing horrible "children's" movies there that scared the bejesus out of me. But it was always a trip to go. We so rarely got the chance.

  14. I went back and read the post from 6 years ago. And cried. And then I saw my comment from 6 years ago, and it talked about how I had cried when they told you his name. And both times I cried at the exact same moment!

    1. Jill- that is so sweet. There were a lot of tears when that happened. Remember when August referred to himself as Little Boppy? Big Boppy and Little Boppy. Sweetness.

  15. What beautiful children August and Levon are. Happy birthday August! he is quite a builder! Art and engineering combined. I am glad you did not get down on the floor, however, as you are still healing! The sense of wonder on those boys faces in the movie theater! Your girls are such good moms. I wonder where they learned??
