Make A Bag Of Popcorn

It's up! Freddie finished Disconnected and it's up!
Click on the poster to go to his youtube channel. It's thirty minutes long so...settle in.

It's funny. I just finished watching it and then I called Freddie and all I could come up with to say was, "It's creepy but I like it."
How lame is that? This man, this BOY, made this movie with one camera and a few lights and anyone he could scrape together to hold the equipment and actors who volunteered their time and he made this sweet (okay, creepy) film and here it is, in the world. It's like he's given birth and I am amazed.
Yes. It's creepy but I like it.
And if you watch it (oh, please do) you'll see Jessie Moon and my house and me, and Owen Provencher (he of the beautiful face) and Brittany and Marcy and my yard and my barn and the shot I told him to do of Owen through a crack in the floor of the loft and the can rolling that Kathleen did less than an hour after her first chemo and the chickens next door and, well, a good, creepy story.

You know, I can't really believe that I got to participate in this project. A year ago, if you had told me that I would be friends with, somewhat-adopted mama of, this GUY who makes films and that he would allow me to be IN them, I would have laughed and laughed and laughed.

I asked Freddie when he was here shooting that cell-phone and clothesline footage how he got started making movie and he told me that when he was eight years old, his grandfather told his daddy that Freddie was shy and that he should get him a camera.
His grandfather died the next day and his daddy DID get him a camera and he began to make short films to entertain his little sister.
This was in Saudi Arabia where movies were outlawed. So he began his movie-making career as an out-law. A child outlaw.

I like that.

I like this movie. It's creepy but I like it.

I hope you do too.

  2. good morning ms.moon,
it is amazing..the dreams we wake up sharing...
the places, visions, stories, people who comprise us, as we comprise them.
    it is all so rich...
they way you open doors and take us in, offer us a perfect egg on a familiar plate, speak to us from your
    comfortable heart.

    xoxoxox,
    rebecca

  3. Jo- I hope you like it when you do watch it.
You will see Lloyd! and my house in it.

    rebecca- Mmmmm. Your words...
My heart cracks open every time I read them.

  4. Good morning! Creepy -- but is it "appropriate?" How I hate that word, but I have small children running into and out of my room so I guess I'll have to watch later --

  5. Elizabeth- Oh, definitely. No blood or sex. Everything is implied in the questionable areas.

  6. Good morning--I will definitely watch!

  9. Super creepy! Ok, I admit - I turned the sound down when he was in the barn...

Mary, you did such a good job. And it was all very powerful and convincing - and it looked beautiful.

$35?? I don't know - that must include a hell of a lot of freebies and favours and people's time and locations and so on - don't discount all that, even if people do it for the love of it... it's still part of the value, if you know what I mean.

  10. Freddy is the next best thing since M. Night Shamalan, who his cinematography and tone remind me very much of...
    **Spoiler Alert**
It was creepy and good. It was hard to see Lovely Aunt Jessie stab someone, even harder to watch you cry and worry and die!!!
Coolest of all was seeing your amazing house and even your mermaids on the screen. Your house and yard are as much a character in the movie as the actors. That Owen is amazing, the music very memorable.
Thanks for my free movie today. I'm spreading the word on my other blogs and twitter, Freddy deserves millions of views and a studio deal.

  11. I was just waiting for you to announce that the movie was up for viewing...just watched it and what a wake-up! We are all so dependent and addicted to the current tech. that is for us to use. Thank you for sharing once again your dramatic acting...

  14. Wow. That child does have an angelic face and expression if ever there was one! Please don't tell me he's part of the creepy... EEEgads! I saw Damian when it first came out and I was so conflicted because the kid was so cute and yet... he was the DEVIL!! It was really unfair. :-)

    Can't wait to watch it.

    Congratulations Freddie!

  15. SJ- I hope you like it!

Jeanne- It's a different view of Ms. Moon.

Rebecca- Tell me what you think.

Jo- I swear- I tried to feed the crew and Freddie wouldn't let me. He's really strict about the $$.
You saw North Florida there. Did you like that?

Mel- My first movie review! Thank-you!

Ellen- Oh, Lord. It is so much fun.
    Thank-YOU!

Syd- Rough day? I hope tomorrow is better, dear friend.

Stephanie- Can you get away with that at work? Awesome!

Ms. Fleur- That picture is of Freddie when he was eight- the year he started making movies.

  16. OOOOOO-- I just watched and agree -- creepy but really well done. Your face and acting are really something, Ms. Moon -- I'm wondering why you haven't done more movies.

  17. how incredibly cool- I didnt know this was happening, Ive been out the loop. Unfortunately I broke the speakers ont he computer yesterday but the silent version looks great, cant wait to watch it properly...the camera work is great...

  18. Oh man, Mama! I watched this last night and wow... That scene where Mikey comes to get you and you've gone a little mad is so good and yes, so creepy! I think that this is some of your best acting yet.
I also really enjoyed watching Jessie stab that man. She could do that, she looks so innocent. She has the face of an angel.
    I loved seeing the goaks.
Freddie does such a good job with light. It is as if light is another character in the story.
And Owen does have a beautiful face.
Well. My Mother The Actress. Mommie Dearest! Ha Ha! Just kidding. You are wonderful.

  19. Yes: fab poster, good camera work, wonderful featuring of the Moon family, especially nice acting crazy by Mary, nice creepiness helped along by the eery music, effective use of all the locations.

This kind of film creation by "amateurs" puts the lie to the insanely huge budgets of the studios. Hurray Freddy, stay on the independent film track! And Hurray for our own Ms Moon, of course!! x0 N2

  20. Elizabeth- No one ever asked me to before. And frankly- I never considered it.

Screamish- Watching silently is probably okay, too.

    May- NO. WIRE. HANGERS!
    Haha.
I'm glad you thought all of those things. I think you should come join us....
    (I really, really do.)
    I love you SO much.

N2- That's what I keep thinking. I watch these HUGE budget films from H. Wood and I am always amazed at how much is just plain damn wrong with them. It's ridiculous! And here's Freddie with one camera and a bunch of volunteers and a car and well...if it rains, he makes it work in the film. If it's sunny, same thing. If there's a No Trespassing sign, he goes very, very early in the morning. (Just kidding, he would never break the law!)
He has the eye. He has the talent. Someday maybe he'll have a budget. But until then- this will do. Very, very well.

  21. can't wait to watch this..

    catching up here in spurts.
hope you are having a great day so far.
It's a gorgeous fall afternoon and while I am a little down ( hormones?) , I am always a sucker for the light in September, with the leaves just turning etc.

  22. deb- Same here with the September light, the leaves. It's a beautiful day, truly.

  23. At last - I got to sit and watch. And yes, so very creepy and creepy good.

He has a beautiful eye for light, shadow and framing, and of course, casting. You are terrific. You already have more credits and a better reel than most of the actresses in Hollywood.

Your house looks just like your house looks in my head, the way I've knit it together from the photos you've shown us.

    Just saying.

  24. Lisa- That cracks me up! Thanks for the good words about Freddie's work. High praise. You know what you're talking about.

  25. Finally made it to the end! (In many episodes.) What a shocker. I just kept thinking "Don't go to the barn! Why go to the barn? Just leave!" And then the pills, and the end. What a shocker.

    Great stuff!

  26. OH MY GOD! I finally got around to watching this, last night in bed with the dogs, and I was in awe and just mezmorized. It is so well shot, and yeah, creepy in this wonderful way. But holy moses mama, you just stole the show. I adored seeing you and hearing you (Susan Sarandon voice!) and your house with the Virgin stuff all over, wow! The rain off the porch just blew me away. I thought, how many times has she written about the rain, and I didn't quite get it until I SAW and heard it through Freddie's lens. Jessie was fantasitc. And of course the other actors. I mean even if I didn't know you through your blog it would have been a treat to watch and experience, but it was so magical, your home and self coming alive like this, in this movie. You rocked it Ms Moon, what a fine actor you are, and so beautiful and true.
    Wow.
    congrats, superstar!

  27. oh and I had to laugh out loud when "mean aunt Jessie" actually got to do something mean!

I missed the Owen shot. Will have to watch it again. Though I don't like seeing you so distressed (it's only pretend Bethany).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bethany- I'm so glad you watched it and liked it! Isn't the rain amazing? I think Freddie was a bit worried when it started raining but I think it added a whole new level to that scene.
    Freddie's something, isn't he?
He makes me look good. Or, like an actor.
