Friday Walk

I went walking today and took my camera. I walked because I had to but I couldn't seem to make myself without that camera over my arm, the promise of something beyond step, step, and step.
Some days are like that.
This was one.

Tattered butterfly, undaunted.

A veritable sultan's garden of clitoria.

Beauty berry.

The old fally-down house.

Raccoon's prints by the water's edge.

Finally, a small moving picture of the creek. I wish I had had the courage to ask Ms. Liola if I could take a picture of her sweet face when she stopped me to chat on my way home, as she often does, but I did not. She is beautiful. Take my word.

Happy Friday, y'all.
Love...Ms. Moon

There's something about fally-down houses that really gets me.

  2. I introduced Anna to beauty berries just the other day. I said, "You can't eat them, but they smell like my childhood."

  5. Love the undaunted butterfly, and the raccoon footprints. I know what you mean about walking in search of treasures instead of just walking...

  6. The colour of the berries! Never seen anything like it. And I love the video. I don't know why I didn't video my walk up Bray Head - oh, wait. Because I broke the camera, I think...

    Ah well, next Spring.

  8. Thanks for sharing your walk today. Our weather has been cool and blustery today, I understand we should thank it for steering Earl offshore. I very much enjoyed your sunshine, treasures and the soothing sound of the river and your voice.
Isn't that butterfly amazing? They get so tattered and yet still fly. Territorial aggression, or maybe a bird got a bite of it?
Beauty berry is my mom's favorite, I love the color and wish it were tolerant of my winters.
Love the pawprints, the fallydown house and the naughty parts flowers
too. I wonder if my image of Ms. Liola looks anything like her.
Thanks for taking us with you.

Ever thought of narrating? Books? Movies? Commercials?

  12. Liola is a beautiful name.

Just curious--is the beauty berry edible, or is it poisonous? Damn shame if it's not edible.

  13. I always thought they were poison - they don't smell like food - but: "The raw berries, while palatably sweet, are suitable for human consumption only in small amounts, because they are astringent; they are also used in jellies. The roots are used to make herbal tea. As a folk remedy it has been claimed that "fresh, crushed leaves of American beautyberry, Callicarpa americana . . . helped keep biting insects away from animals such as horses and mules." An isolated plant compound, callicarpenal, has reportedly been proven effective in tests as a mosquito repellent."

    Love you!
